I remember I was 16. I had a friend who listen to EDM and wasn't into rap. I loved rap but disliked EDM. The Weeknd was sort of a common ground we found, whose music we both enjoyed. We loved the Starboy album and bonded over it. He passed away three years ago. Relistening to this song just brings tears to my eyes. I hope he finds peace in heaven. We miss you man.

I remember waiting for this album to drop 5 years ago, I was on thanksgiving break during my first year of college. I had just watched Mania, which was the set of short music videos that previewed some songs off the album. Finally hearing the songs and seeing the video for Starboy was a magical time, and having the album with me once I left home again helped my homesickness. So when I hear these songs, it’s like I going back to that first year of college, listening to The Weeknd while rain hits my dorm room window, drawing pink crosses on my notebook.
