I have both (98´ E38 740I, 08´ E65 740I LCI), both are unique and great cars, but i prefer the sportiness and driving pleasure of the E38 by far. You drive 600 kms or more in the highway and you still want to go on and on; what a great beast.

I used to have e38 728i lci, now i have a e65 745d. The e65 has the better comfort but the e38 is the better car in general.

Yes it was 126k 2003 745i still running strong. I change everything myself. Never had a leak. Never smoked. Thank God I'm the third owner because the second owner didn't know what they was doing, not a dent, one little chip and everybody that sees it or you sell ing it or what I say. Hell no😅😅😅😅

I’ve owned my 1995 730i since the year 2002, I had looked after it for its previous owner for three years and believe this or not he gave it to me. It did need a replacement engine soon due to the nikasil problem but I sourced a new alusil engine from Germany far cheaper than buying it in the UK and it has been a near faultless car and it has now covered 255’000 miles and I love it to bits. It looks good and the interior is in near perfect condition and people who ride in it are so impressed with it. I’m lucky that I’m able to look after it as I’m an independent BMW repair specialist.

I had an E38 740iL and an E66 760Li for 5-10 years each. The E66 is much more stable at highway speed. You never miss the sideways shaking of SUVs and other high cars in corners after driving 150mph in both. If you like a sportier car - drive a F02. Not as floaty as an E66 and more tech.

Nice tech, but BMW took a step backwards in design and driving pleasure. The E38 is already called "The last of the classic BMWs" and it was correctly straplined at the time "The Ultimate Driving Machine". And what muppet stops a car at speed with the handbrake anyway, unless you WANT a quick 180?

The facelift significantly looks better. E38 does have that "classic" but awesome look to it.

in case of total main brake failure (severed or rusted main brake line) your only chance of stopping the E65 - or any other modern car for that matter - is by applying the handbrake since the electronic shifter will not shift into park if the car is moving. So it is a valid test.

Can you even shift into park at speed with a mechanical shifter? That would be a mess.

E34Benzin on the older cars you can, it won't slow down as much as with the parking brake but it does increase the friction. Well you can choose to either mess up your transmission or have a high speed crash...I think the choice is obvious.

yeah. i have an E65 735i First i had no Problems top Car. over 5 Years i had no bad issues but always a little bit Electronical Stuff. No big Deals but annoying. Now i have a Wrecked Engine! I mean i did every Service over the Years and my V8 machine has 236000 km on and is dead. Nice BMW u built since 2002 only shit cars.

I have heard from local car enthusiasts that the M62 3.5l V8 engine was shit from the beginning. I have a year 2000 E38 730d, it's a very reliable car. My car has now over 401 000 km on the odometer, I use it as a daily driver.

E38 is a way better car, design was spot on, the e65 just looks ugly, yes maybe it has better technology but the looks let it down badly, e38 was like the e39 the last of the good looking bmws

Yes, e38 and e39 look very good, definately the bests cars of bmw, but I dont think that e65 is so bad as always said. Interrior is bad, that i admit, but outside, not so bad if you compare it to e60.

I was going to write the same thing, it was written by an expert like you. I don't think there is an S-edc in the car in the video. It had to be either the s-edc system or the vehicle without the ARS system.

the thing is that EDC will make damping stiffer thus eliminate bodyroll. However, in e65 bodyroll is eliminated not by increasing stifness, but by engaging the active stabilizer. So, e65 don`t lean even though it is soft, but if e38 does not lean - it means it has rock hard dampers or springs.

Nice stunt parking move by the E38 at the end :-D No wonder James Bond liked his E38 750i. Not surprised he never drove an E65 if you can't do a handbrake turn in it.... well that and the fact its so ugly he wouldn't want to be seen in it! Thanks Chris Bangle for ruining a once beautiful car.

Eric David Benari it functioned as an emergency panic stop brake with full power of the braking system until 60 mph iirc... Some VAG models had that function too.

Eric David Benari It’s an automatic parking break, say you’re in stop and go traffic it will automatically engage it and you can take your fit on the gear. Press the gas to disengage and continue driving.
