There is a story about Loki stealing freyjas necklace "Brisingamen". Heimdall chases him and at one point Loki turns into a seal to evade heimdall by swimming to a rock off from a beach. They fight and heimdall gets Brisingamen back for Freyja. Interesting story.

Heimdallr blowing the Gjallarhorn to herald Ragnarok reminds me of St Michael blowing his trumpet to announce the Apocalypse. Heimdallr is the gatekeeper to the Gods. All prayers and blots must go through him to reach Asgard. Otherwise it’s like talking to a locked door.

@@joshuanugentfitnessjourney3342 no St Michael is the herald of apocalypse who blows his trumpet to announce the return of Christ and the last judgement. The Angel Gabriel blows his trumpet to herald judgement day and the Resurrection when the final decision is made on who can enter heaven or hell. Heimdallr fights Loki in the final battle of Ragnarok and both perish like Thor and Loki’s son the world serpent.

When you mention the part about Heimdall being at Baldr's funeral, I would personally interpret that as the three classes of humanity coming together as one to mourn over the death of brightness (i.e., Baldr, a god of light).

My son is called Heimdall 🥺 I love the symbology behind the meaning of it. "The whitest of the gods", "the vessel of nine worlds", "the one who illuminates". I hope my son will appreciate the importance of the name and bear it with pride.

Maybe, with Heimdallr; He’s just solitary, he stands alone. And he drinks by himself usually away from the gods. He enjoys being alone and is stoic and silent. Or if he is Rigg; maybe he’s split personality. Or can split himself up into multiple forms and beings. One side of him is the traveler and the other side of him is the steadfast guardian. And with his ear in the well; it’s so he can hear all the things below Midgard and in the earth, while Odin and Heimdallr can see from the skies.

I remember hearing somewhere that back in the day when someone was referred to as the whitest or Name the White it was a polite way of calling them old. White referred to their hair turning white with age. It had nothing to do with skin color. Hiemdallr is older than most, not all.
@TheWisdomOfOdin

In the old days, white did mean the color of their hair, not not in the way we think today. White literally meant “blonde”. So Heimdallr being the whitest of the Gods meant he had the most blonde hair.
@Aethuviel
@Aethuviel 2 жыл бұрын
Of course it would not refer to skin color, since all the people in this culture and religion were "white", it's like having to specify a person has two legs... And this religion is the religion of our folk, our ancestors. Other people should turn to their ancestral beliefs.
@Valeska687

@@Aethuviel the gods and religion do not recognize race, skin color, ethnicity, ect. That is a human construct and the gods simply do not care about such things. (Bear with me and I'll bring this full circle.) That's interesting, because there's a very similar situation in the Babylonian religion when Marduk wins the control and respect over the warring older gods, becomes the supreme deity, and then he takes on the personalities and stories of both of the two older leader-deities, whose cognates are similar to Odin and Thor (Enki and Enlil, respectively). Even though Marduk didn't do all the things that the Babylonians say he did, his father Enki and his uncle Enlil did do those things. Similarly, we see in the Rig poem that perhaps the exploits of Odin and/or Thor were possibly later attributed to Heimdall. Another similarity is that Heimdall is possibly both old Aesir and younger Vanir. Marduk was considered a peer of the old pantheon of 6 and the first of the new pantheon of 7 as he was the conquerer of the old guard. He was the god of war (and pretty much everything else at that point) - Mars, the 6th rock of the solar system (Sol, Mercury, Venus, Moon, Earth, Mars), followed by the celestial serpent (asteroid belt) and the following 6 rocks: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Nibiru. He basically kept the peace and guarded or presided over them as their leader. He kept an eye on them, so-to-speak. Sounds a lot like Heimdall - the god at the boundary of the celestial serpent (mars, next to the asteroid belt). That serpent's cognate in the Norse and Celtic religions is the sea serpent often found on ancient maps. I believe the eddas say it was the child of Loki. As above - so below. If you look at the asteroid belt at night in a place without pollution, away from the glow of the city, you'll see the rainbow bridge in space. Another possibility is the northern lights which seem to be a magnetic effect from the North Pole - a place where one could interpret the old Celtic Fomorian gods to have come from. To this day, I think it's bad luck to drink from a stream flowing from the North. Death comes from there, or perhaps the netherworld where the Titans are held. So, Marduk was also kinda the *Aesir* and *Vanir* of his culture too- right at the center of the transition of power, into the new age. Kinda like the *Greek* war between the old *Titan* gods and their younger relatives, the *Olympian* gods. Or the *Celtic Tuatha de Danaan* who won against the older *Fomorian* gods with the help of a half-Fomorian warrior leader. Similar to the *Vedic* aryan wars between the *Asuras* gods and the *Devas* gods. The Vedic cognate would be the king of the benevolent Devas named Indra. The older Asuras are often translated in Buddhism as "titans," so it does all seem to be correlated. Ultimately, I believe we were once all one people, and we have a shared history of gods who really did walk among us.

Here's a theory: Heimdall is protecting Bifrost, the path to Asgard. Rainbows have 7 distinct colours. These colours are the aspects of the eight and true form of light, white. So Heimdall is the glowing one, living in the eight palace of Asgard. So I would say, he is the guardian of the connection between the worlds of pure light and the worlds of broken light. He is the counterpart to Loki, as Loki is a giant born out of the primal darkness. Loki is the spot of darkness in heaven so that Heimdall can be the light in the darkness, the father and teacher of men. If you look at it from a psychological angle, then Loki represents the ego whereas Heimdall represents the higher self of our soul. They will kill each other in Ragnarök, because they will merge into one after death. The lower self (ego) and higher self will merge (transcend) into something else. In the end, they will create a new world. Compare this to the end of The Matrix 3, when Neo (Heimdall) stops fighting Mr. Smith (Loki) and after this happens, the souls become free and the world ends. Shortly after that, a new Matrix (world) is created. I believe the Nordic tradition has a lot in common with gnostic mystic schools from the Mediterranean. Some scholars even say, the runes came from the Etruscan people in north-west Italy.

I've been studying the runes and i have gotten a couple messages from Odin in nature. I also get answers to questions in a waking lucid state but I'm never sure who provides those answers. But two nights ago in the state I had intended to ask the meaning on the switching of dagaz and othala (odal) but could not formulate the thought or question.....i was just there in the white light kind of brain farting and had nothing to ask of the aether. So in that receiving state i got the black letters that read Heimdall. Now im kind of new to runes and have a lot to learn and didn't recognize the word. I didn't even know it was the name of a specific God I thought maybe it was a thing. So here I am learning. I'm not sure if Heimdall wants me to connect with him or if being the watcher and signaler of Ragnarock it is a prophetic warning to our own world having it's own ragnarock. Interestingly last nights dream was building a shelter in the woods with my wife (sense of hiding) and a large floating hourglass would follow us with not sand but steam escaping as a form of time running out type of deal. Sadness, urgency/running out of time, and hiding. Makes me think of the negative aspect of Mannaz the mankind rune that says something about a lord being vile to its people or carrion to the earth something or other, don't have my studies in front of me at the moment.

I have a very honest question. I am not trying to spark anything in the comments or anything. Genuinely want to know the following. I was raised Catholic and I’ve always thought it was bullshit. I pretended every now and then and even recently have. I found the Norse pagan “faith” through watching the show Vikings and I thought it was cool. I’m in the boat now, where I have a very hard time believing in any of this. Christian or pagan. I don’t want to be atheist. But why is it so hard for me have faith. I’m 26 and never really felt close to god. Is there a way to get a god to talk to me. And get an experience that I hear about every now and then. Idk. I’m lost.

This could have been me writing this. I was raised catholic and equally thought it was bullshit. I have always been drawn to paganism in that for me it held more truth to it. What I did was ask for a dream or some sort of sign letting me know if I was on to something and where I should start. I ended up getting a dream from Anubis, an Egyptian God, and he let me know in no uncertain terms I was on the right track. I still talk to him and make offerings but I also explore other pantheons. Right now I'm more focused on the Norse gods. Heathenery seems right, at least right now. Maybe you could ask for a dream or some other sign that you're on the right path and where you should start.
