Still - both in the trailer and the actual movie they managed to do something original with a well known and well-loved theme. Here they remixed it, made another well-known and well-loved song sound completely different at the same time, added new arrangement, made the first part of the theme song sound eerier than before, then brought in different vocals for the second part of it that kept and maybe even added to the sadness of it - that vocal part of the theme always stood out the most for me. Int he movie when they played the theme they made it sound eerier again in a different way and kept us on the edge of our seats and feeling nervous because they keep playing the first part of the theme over and over again leaving us waiting for the next part to start.

Fun fact #1: this movie is not a remake or a reboot, it's a sequel. Fun fact #2: the candyman trilogy had ACTUAL BEES. And the actor who played candyman got stung 23 times. And every bee sting he got he got played 1,000 for.

Yes, the lyrical sampling comes from "Say My Name" by Destiny's Child, but the choir portion in the middle is referencing "It Was Always You Helen," the theme song to the 1992 Candyman. It's a fitting homage to the original.
