At one point of my musical journey, I would of been considered an Elitist. I just liked what I liked. But as I've gotten older I've realized there's alot of great music out there, and I want to find it! Thank You for bearing with me on the beginning stages of this channel. Feel free to request any song.

The guest vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen, will tour with Marko Hietala, ex Nightwish, in South America this autumn, September-November. 20 acoutic concerts in 25 days in 8 countries. I think it's Anneke's first time performing in South America. The guitarist, Tuomas Wäinölä, from Marko's band is with them. Marko and Anneke first have separate sets of their own, and they end the concerts performing together. I don't know if Tuomas plays with both of them, and I don't know if Marko and Anneke play acoustic guitar too, they both can.

Tomi Joutsen is the man. If the band didn't discover him not sure if they'd still be together. I never liked growling until I heard him and his clean vocals are so freaking smooth. Esa Holopainen is the guitarist and he released his first solo album in 2021. Worth checking out for too. Anneke's voice is absolutely captivating. She doesn't get the attention she deserves.

Tomi's brilliant cleans and blood-curdling growls, with the added bonus of Anneke, one of the best female vocalists of the last 25 years. Not to mention that weirdly great video. It really doesn't get much better that this. Oh wait, it does...the song is freakin' awesome too! It's one of my all time favourites by Amorphis. Awesome! I have nothing against Amorphis rabbithole!! There is so much to explore. They have gone all the way through Death metal to Progressive, folk and back to melodic death metal with all the spices from the past. Female singer is Anneke van Giersbergen. Very influential dutch singer for example to the Floor Jansen. Anneke's band is called The Gathering.

Thanks for this, I was one of the people who requested this. Please do more, Amorphis is just so good! Anneke is awesome, her solo stuff is great and all the guest vocals with different artists and band kick ass. Really recognisable voice, there's just something soothing in it. Her solo album Drive is probably my favourite, mix off poprock/stadium rock with some mellower stuff and hard rock as well.

I fell in love with Amorphis some decades ago when Tales of a thousand lakes came out, and i have to admit, that Tomi Joutsen is the best thing that could happen to them. Normaly a band is doomed, when they lost their singer, but in this case it was a permanent upvote. Saw them live a multiple times and it's always astonishing listening to Tomi switching from clean passages to harsh voclas in seconds... truly amazing. They formed in 1990 as a deathmetal band and transformed into this pure, but harsh wonderful melodic wonder, and thats what i always loved about them, the harmonies. Imagine the pure destruction of (death) metal combined with a harmond organ.. pure magic as in black winter day. I recommend listening to Skyforger (my favorite song of them) of The bee or real old stuff like Black winter day or My Kantele.

Yeah, I used to not be a fan of death metal growls until I discovered Amorphis. His vocals changed me, and became more open to other DM. Death of a King is popular. Silver Bride sealed the deal for me years ago. Silent Waters if you want to check a bad ass ballad. I love The Moon from their latest album. Daughter of Hate is sweet. Brother and Sister is amazing. Fav song is Winters Sleep. Also, check out The Wind and Honeyflow...bonus songs you can only really find online. So amazing. And so many other options/songs.

To me, Tomi has the same character (not the same sound) that Chris Cornell had. His voice is SOOOoo clear and it rings forward of the band. I should be able to suss out the timbral characteristics. Obviously, when he sings clean : -without gravel or grit, - immaculate articulation of words, - a ton of good technique/support in a 'modern contemporary style', - incredible command of the shift in diphthongs. He does not rush the songs. I do not know if he writes the lyrics, but he gives each word the room it needs to unfold wings and breathe. ...ok, I'm starting to get a little flowery... I'm going to be earing a bunch of their material first-time, as you move through their catalogue. This will be fun. Oh, if you want to hear some more of Anneke with another band, try Devin Townsend's "Grace" (Retinal Circus tour - live) And if you want to see metal platonic love blossom in front of an audient, try the song Ih Ah ("ee ah"), from the same tour.

Well it's not metal, but since you liked the vocals so much, I would recommend trying Poets of the Fall and one of their newer songs "Requiem for my Harlequin" as a starter point. One of my favourite bands of all time, consistent sound throughout their career (as in they have retained a certain feel to it, even while altering the style somewhat) and I feel like you'll like the vocalists voice.

Amorphis is a really good band, has been active for a long time, more than 30 years. And a few members changed along the way. Esa Holopainen (not related to Tuomas Holopainen) is the band's guitarist and one of the composers of the songs. The current singer is Tomi Joutsen and I really like his vocals, both growling and clean vocals. BTW. A little story about him. When he joined the band and they made the first album where Tomi was the singer, the producer of the album was Marko Hietala (ex-Nightwish)! And in that role of producer, he advised Tomi in singing, how he should sing some parts. So in a way..., we can say that Marko taught Tomi how to sing 😉😊 Although of course Tomi was a good singer already when he joined, that's why he was chosen for it in the first place. The guest singer here is Anneke van Giersbergen, a Dutch musician with a long career. She has been (and probably still is) one of Floor Jansen's role models. Anneke mostly does solo gigs these days, one woman and a guitar. But is also sometimes a guest at Amorphis' albums/gigs. And then the Amorphis guitarist has been a guest guitarist at Anneke's gigs... And next fall, Anneke and Marko Hietala will do an acoustic South American tour, Marko will play guitar...

One suggestion. When you want to get to know different bands. Have you ever heard bands of the cinematic metal genre (a sub-genre of symphonic metal)? Dark Sarah ( 😉, also from Finland). Heidi Parviainen is the woman behind the music and also a singer. She made a three-album story, so it's like a book set to music. Here would be one music video from the story's main character's (Dark Sarah) journey. I think, you will enjoy this!!! Dark Sarah - "Dance With The Dragon" feat. Hey guys, I need some help from the commentors here in building the perfect playlist. I'm about to become an uncle, with my first niece on the way later this year. My brother (her father) is as committed as I am to ensuring she has a proper metal upbrining. To that end, I'm gifting her a large stuffed animal that has custom music playback...I have 2 hours of recording time to load it with songs for her. Now I need some suggestions. Here's what I'm looking for: • Softer music, it can be lively, but not overly aggressive. This is baby here, so no abrupt loudness that might literally scare the crap out of her, lol. • I'm looking for female singers, primarily, without any suggestive or provocative lyrics. Give her some female musical role models who are NOT just twerking skanks who rely on Auto-Tune, lol. • Not overly repetitive in verse. A kid will have this, so the songs may be played a LOT, and I want to minimize annoyances. • I want a diverse collection of artists, not just 20 songs from one band, lol. 1 Song per band. • Steering clear of Metal Disney covers, I'm sure her parents will be sick of those songs in time anyway, lol. • Her mom is not a metal-head, so it has to be palatable to non-metal folk as well. So far I have: 1) Nightwish - Slow, Love, Slow 2) Epica - Martyr of the Free Word (acoustic version) 3) Anneke Van Giersbergen - Wonder 4) Tarja - Innocence 5) Siriana - This curse of mine 6) After Forever - Ephemeral ... There should be room for ~18 more. Any suggestions are welcomed. I would love to get a ballad from Lacuna Coil in there, if anyone has suggestions. Maybe some vintage stuff like Lita Ford. Going for a sort of metal lullaby theme here, lol... I'll hook her up with more music when she's older, of course.
