In May of 2005 Cream returned to London's Royal Albert Hall-to the same stage where they had completed what was thought to be their final performance in 1968. It was one of the most eagerly anticipated, hard-to-get tickets in rock history. With the exception of a brief reunion set at their 1993 induction into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame, Cream had not played together in nearly four decades. This DVD documents Cream's momentous London shows. Performances from each of the four nights are featured and much more. Also included are alternate performances and interviews with Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce, and Eric Clapton. Cream formed in 1966 and disbanded in 1968. The band were a prolific and thrilling live act and toured incessantly in their short but remarkable history.

Clapton was famous as a blues and rock guitarist long before his radio hits. He showed that in The Yardbirds, Cream and Blind Faith.

Eric's body of work is absolutely staggering. Not only is his solo catalog remarkable, but when you add to it all the material from numerous other iconic bands he was in it's mind-blowing.

This is one of my favourite Cream songs, Jack Bruce was I think still recovering from an almost fatal liver transplant during these 2005 concerts, it's no wonder he's sitting down. He was one of my favourite bass players, Jack and Ginger are missed.

I agree they smoke "Crossroads" but, technically, it's a cover. Robert Johnson wrote and recorded this song in 1936.

Before Tears in heaven or Wonderful tonight Clapton was best known as a great rock guitarist. Someone wrote "Clapton is God" on a wall in London. Cream was early hard rock! The live version with Cream was around 20 minutes long. An organic improvisation where every member of the band plays off each other.

His nickname has nothing to do with the way he plays. It was given to him by his Yardbirds' fellow guitar player because whenever he broke a string on stage he used to change it right there and the british crowd would wait out the delay by giving him a slowhand (british coloquialism for a slow hand clap).

For a great "compare and contrast" video reaction, this newer version vs. the very early "Wheels of Fire" studio album version, as a viewer suggests below. The 1960s version is faster and better than this one, tho Clapton can still make his axe wail and Bruce can hold the bass line so very steady; oh, yeah, Ginger Baker on drums keeps both those other super-stars on-time with the hectic tempo.

Seeing Clapton live was always incredible!!! King of the 10-minute guitar solo - I think that is how Stevie Ray learned that was possible. And the annual Crossroads guitar festival is always incredible. They called him "Slow Hand."

Eric Clapton is the most influential, imitated and revered guitarist of his generation. He helped invent modern, rock, blues guitar and set the path for all who followed. Clapton was at the forefront of the British, blues invasion. From John Mayall Blues breakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Domino's and solo, Clapton has a discography that few can come close to.

At this reunion Jack, who when they were it was the main vocalist, was quite (seriously) ill, dying a couple of years later from a lung complaint. Did not affect his bass playing though.

Jack Bruce, who is the bass player, began playing jazz bass in his teens and won a scholarship to study cello and musical composition at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. With his Gibson EB-3 electric bass, Bruce became one of the most famous bassists in rock, winning musicians' polls and influencing the next generation of bassists such as Sting, Jim Shaw, Geddy Lee, Geezer Butler and Jeff Berlin. Bruce co-wrote most of Cream's single releases with lyricist Pete Brown, including the hits "Sunshine of Your Love", "White Room" and "I Feel Free". He had a long and distinguished performing career in many bands and in 2009 he was presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from Glasgow Caledonian University for services to the culture of Glasgow and music in general. He also taught bass at the Royal Scottish Academy of music and my niece’s husband who plays bass in the Stanley Odd band studied under him.

There is a rare recording that has Jimmy Page playing Rhythm with Clapton on lead Guitar. One of the songs is "Tail Dragger". No bass, no drums. The purest electric blues I ever heard. Page being a genius in the studio mixed and made a master. Both had separate contracts with different music companies and agreed not to sell it to either one. Clapton was against being commercial. Pages company found out about it and released it without Erics permission. They didn't speak to each other for years afterwords.

Drummer Ginger Baker died at 80 in 2019..one of the best early rock drummer's before John Bonham of Led Zeppelin took over in 69.

Great performance. Great reaction to the video. Interesting you mention you are just delving into the music of Eric Clapton. He was in several bands throughout his career that you can explore. The Yardbirds, Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominos just to name a few. He has collaborated with a huge list of other celebrity musicians that few can match. He founded the Crossroads Guitar Festival which was a celebration of the top guitarists in the world from just about every Genre. These festivals went on for more than a day with several musicians/bands performing each day. They were released on DVD and there were about 6 of these between 1999 and 2019. So many iconic performances. Often multiple guitar players jamming with Eric Clapton. If you start getting into these performances you will discover great masters of guitar that you have never even heard of. It is a whole world of discover by itself.

Early Clapton is terrific...late Clapton is the best. Middle Clapton was affected by depression, addiction, especially booze. His output reflects a ' medicated' uninspired, going I thru I the motions. He lost me completely. His Crossroads Recovery Centre & the concerts that support it have resurrected his light.

Watch CREAM at their farewell tour in 68 " Crossroads ". He was really good friends with Jimi Hendrix . So what he did was , went into a guitar shop , and happened to notice a left handed strat. He wanted to give it to Hendrix as a gift. Then he went to the club where Hendrix was , and they both seen each other across the room . Although they never got together that night. The next day , Clapton had heard Hendrix had died. And Clapton was left holding that strat.

Check out the live '68 version from the album Wheels of Fire. Please check this out. The '68 version is just amazing, and is great great cover of Robert Johnson's 1936 original. The live 68 version is one of the greatest ever live recordings, for me it is the ultimate jam.

The 60s version of the Cream songs are a little more intense but I think this version is better for a reaction video. They didn't know how to film a concert in the 60s and often missed the most interesting visuals.

Back after his stints with the Yardbirds and Cream, fans declared "Eric Clapton is God!". That didn't happen because of his skills for producing soft rock ballads. This performance is nice, but it is the output of three guys well into middle-age playing a song they probably would have been happy never to revisit ever again. It is rather sedate by comparison to the mayhem found on the live tunes on Wheels of Fire. Most of the white music public had never heard songs penned and played by the old black blues masters, and when Disraeli Gears came out, few people had ever heard guitar sounds augmented by distortion or gadgets like wah-wah pedals. We were astounded by the new sounds as well as being introduced to bluesy-style lead guitar. Clapton is properly revered as a progenitor of the modern style of lead guitar playing, but listening to this makes you realize the number of other guitarists, inspired by Clapton's work, who now play, or did play, just as well, or even better, than Clapton.

Shadows of their former selves sadly. I used to see them in the '60s at London's Marquee club. Back then Eric played Gibson which was the true sound Cream. His stuttering playing here just makes me very sad.

Clapton was a guitar god before he lightened his music. He can still play the blues guitar as good as ever, it's just he doesn't do it as often as he did in his younger days. Cream were an amazing band. Listen to Eric in Blind Faith and Derek and the Dominos too. He was also the first guitar player in the Yardbirds and was replaced by Jeff Beck who was then replaced by Jimmy Page and for a short while Beck and Page played together in the Yardbirds. He also was with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and the Delaney and Bonnie Band and he's been solo since the early 70s except for this Cream reunion and a tour or some shows with Steve Winwood to relive their Blind Faith days.

Iconic song. Iconic band! Starting out, Clapton did not like to sing. He did not consider himself a singer, so Jack Bruce did most of the singing. Great reaction!! I am shocked that you hadn't already heard this song on radio! If you have more from this concert, go for it! Check out the video titled 'Cream - White Room (Royal Albert Hall 2005) (17 of 22)'.
