The keyboard guy is Joost van den Broek, working closely together with Floor Jansen since 1996, supporting her in the creative process, they are as we say in the Netherlands “two hands on one belly”, even to this day🇳🇱👸 When you look at this recent live version of Floor’s song Fire, you can see Joost on the keyboard: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qNene7CY1MWolIU.html

Thanks, Eric! It’s always a pleasure to enjoy together the wonderful music of Arjen Lucassen. His body of work is vast and beautifully divers. Let’s enjoy more of it, regardless of the amount of views on YT. I see many a reactor quit because of that. Such a shame, because reaction channels, in my opinion, are ways to share great music that is out there but will never get the promotion it deserves. Kudos to you for putting that omission right.

Thank you! And I only call these "reactions" to get into the algorithm, but in reality, these are more analysis than reactions. Spending 30+ years in music radio gives me a little bit of a different perspective and I'm just trying to bring that to the viewer. I'm not too concerned with view count, that's for people who monetize. I live by the "Build it and they will come" mentality. I'm just doing my thing, and if folks dig it, then more folks hear good music, and my mission is complete! Cheers from Nashville! Eric

You voiced my thoughts perfectly: Tuomas Holopainen and Arjen Lucassen, the two best composers of this time and age (maybe even beyond?). I would LOVE to see them in a battle of composers: who is better? I don't think there will be a dominant winner in that competition! One point of critique though: throughout the song, the sound was quite distorted (yes, that's the proper musical term) while I've heard other reactors with a lot less distortion. Maybe it's your equipment? Or the sound settings? That was the one thing that got me distracted from listening.

It's probably the recording. I don't think it was an Official vid, so it may have some generational loss in the ripping. But I know it's not my system. I did think it sounded a bit, "bass-ie", and I just thought that was my sub, but sorry it came through muffled. Cheers! Eric

Listening to Ayreon (and other projects by Arjen) is like a smorgasbord of the BEST of best in metal. Literally. The great thing about Arjen is his ability to utilise everyone's talent. He also loves finding new artists for his project. Recently, Brittney Slayes from Unleash the Archers did vocals on his Star One album. Which also brings me to Unleash the Archers...

One of criminally underecognised bands is Stratovarius. Tuomas Holopainen has said that Stratovarius was one of the biggest influences on the Oceanborn, Wishmaster albums at least. Band has also quite "colorful" history with different band members etc.. The keyboard wizard Jens Johansson left Yngwie Malmsteen to join this band, current Bassist Lauri Porra is descendant of Jean Sibelius (The Finnish Composer), he is quite accomplished in solo works too. Sadly band has quite poor quality live material, but I found one good one. Link below vvv

Real natural music! Appreciate! How can you tell a diamond from a glass fake? After all, modern show business most often offers us glass under the guise of a diamond. This diamond should be in your collection. 1) super unique voice (dramatic contralto with polyphonic overtones); 2) the most complex vocal techniques, a bewitching voice; 3) the incredible fate of a girl found with a broken collarbone at a bus stop and ended up in an orphanage; 4) 70 victories in vocal competitions - a child prodigy, can sing in any musical genre; 5) incredible charisma, artistry and living of any song; 6) a range of 4 octaves, which at the age of 19 is far from the limit and will continue to grow; 7) a large army of fans around the world; 8) an independent artist, without producers and labels, only with the support of fans and reactors like you; 9) and now she is still a talented lyricist and composer of her music; 10) more than 13 thousand reactions. some reactions have 3.5 million views. Meet Diana Ankudinova!

Maybe you would like to check out some Marco's old band Tarot. It's honest heavy metal played by long haired men. "Pyre of gods" is a piece where Marco belts with his whole heart. I recommend the official video of the song: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bs6ke8V9rcu3ZZ8.html Marco has said that Tarot was the most unlucky band there has ever been, if something could go wrong, it surely did. I'd like to see you react to Katatonia. They're a metal band from Sweden, but unfortunately there aren't many videos of people reacting to them. I'd start off with music video of the song Lethean from their 2012 album Dead End Kings. As for more Ayreon songs, The Castle Hall from this same show is a must. Robert Soeterboek (the barbarian) and Damian Wilson (the knight) kill it on the vocals. Or you could go with some other songs from the 01011001 album from this live show. Age of Shadows has Floor, Marco and Hansi on vocals (though it's an abridged version, so you may want to listen to the studio version afterwards). Waking Dreams and Comatose have Anneke van Giersbergen and Jonas Renske (of Katatonia) on lead vocals. Then finally there's Ride the Comet with Jonas Renske and Magali Luyten on main vocals.

Please react to some other live Ayreon songs besides those that have Marko and Floor in them. They are not bad, but they are still not the best you can find. Unfortunately the NightWish army drown out suggestions to other songs, which is a shame. Anything from the "Electric castle and other tales" concert is superior to what you can see from this one. And before anyone complains...being a part of the NightWish army (which I am too) doesn't mean that Floor and Marko are always best. Suggestions: "Isis and Osiris", "amazing Flight", "Cosmic Fusion", "Garden of Emotions"

Thank you for the great analysis. I think I saw the bass player from Ayreon live last summer in Blind Guardian performances at festivals. Probably European metal is a small family. Have you ever heard Ekseption, a Dutch band that made pop-rock-versions of classical music in early seventies? The late Rick van der Linden was great on the hammond.

Great reaction once again! Love your analysis and how- through the lense of your experience- you can lace a piece in the broader tapestry of music through the ages. Ayreon is a pretty special thing. Lucassen is a genius in how he builds his metal opera's. Love to see you do a complete run through of one of his projects. Into the electric castle or the human equation. Takes some searching but i think you can find live performances for every song in those prog metal opera's. Hearing the whole hog is really the best way to savour Lucassens genius. Hope you give it shot someday :-). Thanks a lot for these great video's, love your work.

Good song, very good performance. Liked your analysys as allways. BTW Hansi is the lead singer of German powermetal band Blind Guardian, don't know if you know. Have you ever done a Blind Guardian song? If not I highly recoment if you like classic powermetal with an unreal connection to their crowd (I have seen them often and I tell you it's an experience). I recoment the Wacken version of "The Bard song" together with "Valhalla" it's a doubble song but very cool! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n5N5lruQx8nHdpc.html

The US Music Industry is just that. An industry designed over the past 40 years to do nothing but generate revenue for those who control the flow. It's an incestuous relationship between labels, promoters, venues, and radio. So, my job has been to find the "good formulaic" among the dregs of pumped out commercial sounds. A song may be good for radio, but that doesn't make it a good song. If you catch my drift. Also, I can't play an instrument nor write songs, so I try to find positive in any band/song, merely out of respect for the endeavor. Cheers! Eric
