“Inside Israel, we are Palestinians too.”
When solidarity protests erupted across the country in May, a Palestinian resident in the city of Lydd (or Lod, as Israel renamed it) told AJ+ that local Jewish Israelis marked their homes with red paint so they could be targeted for attacks by armed settlers.
This is part of a much larger project happening in Lydd, where ultranationalist Jewish Israelis have been moving into the city for over a decade with resources and support from the state. The group is called the Garin Torani, or “Torah Seeds,” and its goal is to create a Jewish majority in Arab-majority neighborhoods. Residents we spoke with say that while the city has welcomed these Jewish settlers, it has also ignored the basic needs of Palestinian citizens.
In the aftermath of recent violence that left two people dead, one Jewish and the other Palestinian, new levels of mistrust and generational trauma are haunting these residents.
AJ+ went to Lydd to find out how Palestinians with Israeli citizenship are challenging the country’s de facto policy of divide and rule while demanding freedom from colonial oppression.

my dad was born in Lod, my grandfather was killed by israeli forces when my dad was only 4 years old, my grandmother was forced to give most of my family's lands to the state, most of my family still live in Lod on the little land they still own for genreations, the israeli government still insists on driving them away threatening to demolish thier homes even though they hold an israeli citizenship and documents, it's just absloutely disgusting but i can't say anything about it since I would definitely be thrown in jail.

Yeah, that's because the oppression never ended and they are still in survival mode. What's changed is that before they didn't have the means to defend themselves, now they do. I still condemn certain actions, but there is a whole context that is always left behind from these videos. I used to think exactly what you said, and I was so baffled and disturbed by it that I actually studied every aspect of the situations of both parties. Going back more than 3000 years and researching anthropologic aspects, demogragic, cultural, religious, political, military campaigns (muslim "conquest of the levant", Roman colonies, ottoman empire, ww1) etc. This thing is far more complicated that every media outlet on both sides care to explain. And they certainly are not going to show the opposite narrative. For example they mentioned a city being re-named. Do you know that that was probably the original name? Do you know that many cities, for example Nablus (which is considered an Arab city with an Arab name) was actually pourposly renamed from "Schehem" (one of the most ancient cities on earth) to NeoPolis ("""new" city) by the Romans after they invaded the kingdom of Israel? And that when the Muslims invaded the Roman colonies they called it Nablus due to the Arab pronunciation of the Latin name? I think that until all these aspects are addressed, this conflict will sadly expand for many years to come.

This fiasco should be blamed on Britain. They made up the Balfour Declaration in 1917 that allowed Jews to move to Palestine and be given Palestinian passports.
