In my school theatre class, my teacher's favorite joke to use when teaching us anything is a false anecdote of his dog being run over by a UPS van. He first used it when teaching us, early on in the year, the concept of separating one's emotions from one's acting, saying "You should be able to act the same when you're having the best day of your life as you can when your dog just got ran over by the UPS van."
