How do you know if you’re getting the new radio?? Note from Danny: “All of our in-stock radios, in all colors, are the latest version. Anyone that has had their order ship within the past two weeks has a new one. Probably the easiest way to tell for sure that you have a latest version model is to check the STEP menu and make sure 20K is an option in the list. Adding 20K step was a firmware update that was also added for this second batch and first-batch radios won’t have it.”

I had an old Icom W32a that did cross-band repeat. When I got it, I think it was one of the few HTs that did it. Worked great. Radio finally bricked itself back around 2011. May have to look at one of these. Thanks for the update!

Received mine on September 11th and it has the firmware update confirmed by the 20K STEP. Finally finished programming it (yeah, that's not the LAST time for that) and been testing it. So far, I'm pretty happy with how it is performing. I'll add the Diamond SRH940 antenna when it arrives next week to test out the reception difference. Yeah, I'm thrilled to have it....the wife is just shaking her head!

Here's an under-appreciated small radio that did it all. It's a somewhat larger than a handheld with a different form factor but can be held in one hand and slung over the shoulder so your hands are free. The FT-818 has all modes 160M thru 70cm. it is (was) a truly amazing radio discontinued last year after being in production for over 20 years by Yaesu..

@@Emcipio I have the ‘classic’ band one. It does a lot for what it is. But the filters are weak. Nearby strong signals can’t be filtered out and living near a broadcast radio station made it useless until about a week ago. Got an external filter that took care of that.

Love the radio but it says 6w and the only reason I would want this radio is 6m and 220. But max 2w on 6m is tonally unacceptable. I have a vx8 whish was a bit more money how ever they are not made any more. I guess I'll have to wait till some one puts out a decent 5-7 watt 6m HT.
@joedidit3233
@joedidit3233 3 ай бұрын
I agree with you there. Although it's a nice radio, no real reason to buy it at $220 over a lot of other radios in that price range other than the ability to transmit on 220 and especially 6 meters. And 6-meter repeaters are often few and far between, so good transmit power is can be needed to hit the not so close repeaters. It's a pity they didn't give it reasonable power for 6 meters.

@0:07 @2:55 actually likely not pass! If you are using 40dBm attenuator, that puts the spur at around -10dBm which exceeds FCC limit of -16dBm. See 97.307(e): "For a transmitter having a mean power of 25 W or less, the mean power of any spurious emission supplied to the antenna transmission line must not exceed 25 µW and must be at least 40 dB below the mean power of the fundamental emission". 25 µW is -16dBm.

I have seen problems with QC or quality control in the production of Chinese Radios. Wide variation in performance and specification of these radios means that one radio might be good and the next one off the assembly line might be bad so you can't assume all are good like the one tested here. The legal and responsible way to go in my opinion is for everybody who uses them must learn and purchase the equipment to test them yourselves and be sure your equipment complies with FCC regulations. Test & comply is my motto. Have a good day. 73

I understand the need to verify spurious emissions (well, shouldn't the FCC be checking this actual? but what do I know), but I feel you (and others) spend a lot of time talking about that specific part without covering the features that this radio offers. I had completely discarded this radio as a possible upgrade from a UV-5R, because honestly, I do not really care about the extra bands. However, after having watched other reviews that showed the actual features of this radio (notably, NOAA alerts), it checks all my 'must haves' and most of my 'nice to have' features I'd want from a radio. I'm not saying to remove the part about spurious emissions from the original video, but maybe do a bit more editing to condense it to a minute or two max? Hopefully, this is taken as intended, constructive comments. I enjoy your videos a lot. Cheers!
