The Drummer is never sitting. He plays up to three hours standing. The reason ist, that die Ärzte want to be equal on stage. Everyone of them sings and writes songs. Sometimes they exange Instruments among each other and the positions on stage.

They tend to chat a LOT during their shows. So much so that it's common that audiences chant "Halts Maul und Spiel" ("Shut up and play") at them.

The actually reason why the drummer stands is: The Bandmembers are talking to each other in the concerts. So a good friend of the drummer was on the concert from "die ärzte" in the 80s (the drummer was plays sitting behind the drums at this time) and said after the concert, that when the drummer speaks, no one knows who is speaking, the drummer was to small for his drum set... I know two other German bands who had a standing drummer/percussionist. First one is Trio, a band that was popular during the Neue Deutsche Welle period back in the eighties and Tangerine Dream, which are pioneers of electronic music. The band exists since 1967 and had a woman as percussionist for a very long time. I have seen Tangerine Dream live in Berlin in 2009, with Iris Camaa standing behind her percussions playing them like a wizard.

Since the Drummer is also one of the main vocalists, it makes sense to stand, you can sing better standing.

The band is more pronounced "DEE AIRTST A" nur th sagst A ist pronounced more like a in "a Door, a women etc. They also declare themselves as the best band in the world.😉

If you like meaningful songs and Die Ärzte I'd recommend to listen to "Kraft" (Power) [I volunteer to translate its lyrics. :D]. It's from their latest studio album (2022) and the meaning behind it is "Words are powerful - use them wisely". Alternatively, "Our bass player hates this song" (from the same album) is a great song (with a stupid and missleading name) about democracy and the importance of being an active part of it. In my opinion it's an extremly important song these days...
