OMG!!! Definitely a unicorn in pinball history. The owner is blessed to have it in this condition. I hope the owner can have it come back for a cleaning and tune up/refresh. She is a beauty. Thank you for sharing this with us. And thank you to the owner for giving all of us a chance to see a working example.

Nice Joe!!! Glad to see you in a pinball machine besides cleaning it ! You nailed it ! I did my first full restore on a Mata Hari . I spent a 7 months completely ripping it apart . New paint with stencils , new playfield . Cleaned and polished everything. It was beautiful. And then I got bored and sold it to by another 😂

Heard an old tale years ago that the chimes used on this game and on many other 1st gen Bally solid state games were originally designed for a Bally horse race themed solid state pinball game called, 'Derby Day" or some such that was well into development but ended up being cancelled.

Sometimes, the simple fixes are all that are needed (bad bridge rectifier). I don't think I ever saw the right sling-shot fire and the ball hit it pretty well, particularly when the left sling-shot sent it over. Personally, I prefer 5-ball on most pinballs. Every once in a while, there is one that seems to have better play on 3-ball. For those machines that have a difference in play (different scoring or how the unit plays), it seems like they design it as 5-ball and then come up with a 3-ball version and adjust things so it's attainable. But hey, like what you like. I'm good with that too. At least they give one the option!.

It's a classic Bally, every pin on every wire in every connector on that machine needs to be repinned. This is a must do. Once done mark the machine that it was done and when so the next guy doesn't have to do it.

Would you be able to uses a DBT when checking for blown fuse shorts? It would save the cost of fuses if it did. Us solid state amp guys use them to check for shorts after doing maintenance.
@eDoc2020
@eDoc2020 4 ай бұрын
Oh, a dim bulb tester? It would somewhat work but with limitations. Many coils won't work right on reduced voltage. It would let you know about a dead short.
@RPike-bq3xm
@RPike-bq3xm 4 ай бұрын
@@eDoc2020 I thought so. Unplugging the play board would allow for the DBT to indicate a short on the control boards and power supply. Small lamp used in the DBT? In this case, Joe would of been able to narrow down the rectifier quickly.

Yo, the bottom of your cabinet isn't for storage or a trash bin! You leave that crap down there, pack the machine up for transport, a screw, washer or old fuse jumps up and lodges itself and you set it back turn it on and you wonder why stuff isn't working. Keep your machines clean folks. It's not hard.

Although few Mata Hari's were made with polyethylene plastic playfields similiar to EBD and several other titles they are not particularly valuable, despite durability. The version collectors desire are EM over SS. An EM example in superb condition is worth 6x the SS.

I thought these playfields were meant to be more duarable, but the wear on this one says otherwise. I believe the issue with not continuing with them was that screws would easily strip out.
