The mention of no violence is really odd to me- there's tons of verbal abuse, bullying, undermining that also gets physical (the slap scene, sibling fighting each other). Generally speaking the show is gritty (not to mention the event at the end of season 1) and with substance abuse. So while there truly isn't much physical violence to be found on screen, it is filled with tension, conflict, and violence which is arguably one of the reasons why it's clicking with millions of people.

No doubt. I feel as though his characters tend to lean that way - internalizing all the tension around them whilst politely brooding; until the final act, wherein he explodes in a tempest of dignified fury and outrage.
