Dragons' Den

Күн бұрын

Former barrister Adejare Doherty delivers an assured pitch to the Dragons, handing out his plates made from palm fronds. He's seeking an investment of £120k in return for 20% equity, will his eco-friendly product tick all the right boxes?
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

Hate to say it but I dont think they liked the 'packaging' (colour). Because they gave him absolutely no complements on his pitching, defending of product, good conduct, great product. @@CPTZK11 we saw 10 mins of a pitch that could be up to an hour or longer. It purely came down to the fact that they were too expensive to be able to compete which they all said. @random-nz7dy

@@CPTZK11 so you're just going to ignore that there are scores of videos of white investors getting no compliments about their pitch from the dragons? The dragons don't generally spend a lot of time giving them praise on their ability to pitch. They did the same thing with this they do with every other one. Which is dig into the financials and determine if it's a business worth investing in and whether the valuation is appropriate. In this case it wasn't. Not everything is about race, trying to make every single thing in this world about race and shoehorning it into everything is part of the problem.

@Omolaja itura 5:53, 6:11, 6:25 A thousandaire telling millionaires (some close to being billionaires) that they are wrong from a financial and/or marketing perspective is a sign of either arrogance or ignorance. Granted one millionaire is obviously not going to have all the knowledge in the world which is why there are 5 of them, and he was defensive with pretty much all of them. He was trying to defend his business against what he perceived as attacks and criticism when really they were just trying to get a feel for the strengths and weaknesses of the business. If I was in his position I would have come in and started the pitch with something like "I feel the business can succeed because it is on trend and there are few or no similar products on the market. The only obstacle I see is the volume. If we can overcome that then the price will decrease drastically and at that point we would not only match the big plastic players but also have an advantage over them." That would open up both a high growth rate and multiple buy-out options. Being upfront with problems establishes a sense of trust and helps assure people that there won't be hidden problems down the line. If somebody is strong then even attacking their vital points can't take them down. If somebody is weak then they will try to defend themselves.
@GirlycarDawn
@GirlycarDawn 3 жыл бұрын
@Omolaja itura Wrong, I've watched the entire series 7 times. What do you mean that you don't say that the niche is empty? Number one that's a good thing, and number two that's an obvious fact. No, fads stop after months or a couple years. Trends last for decades. Plus you can't regulate plate material, and if you could that would only benefit this product. Because this one is more ecologically sound than the plastic type. I don't think you understand what you're talking about. It would appear that you didn't read the part where I said the price goes down with higher volume either. I clearly said that was the one problem he needed to overcome and that he should be more upfront about it. That is how a person is respectful, not by arguing points but by admitting the areas where they need the dragons to help. They are obviously there for something other than cash and it's a good idea to let the investors know what it is.

Debrah shows herself up again as the faux "eco-warrier" that she is. She waffles on endlessly about green and natural products and constantly looks at ingredients and production processes but when it comes down to it she rejects a product based on pricing. The simple fact is you cannot replace plastic products with other products at the same price. So she should give up on all her 'green' BS from her privileged position.

@Lady Spencer Yes I agree that a lot of the 'natural' products being peddled aren't natural at all and she rightly points that out. ... you mumbled to yourself as your greasy, worn out, workers fingers fumbled about, searching for the scraps in the packet. They can’t just invest in everything that you would call ‘useful’ or ‘eco friendly’, they have to make back their money too. They said they loved the idea, but might lose too much money if they invested because the business was unstable. I don’t see what’s so hard to understand 🙄

He presented really well, the product is great. Unfortunately needed a lot of cash to really kick off, but I could see it being super successful. For £200k he needed to offer at least 40-50% for it to make sense for a Dragon. Might be a better idea to take the product to Australia and establish it there first, since it'd be cheaper.

He is great and his product is great! He should scrape up the money to make a very large order. In India they wouldn't cost that much. He needs to take a leap of faith and throw £50,000 into the production to get the price down and worry about selling them later because they will sell. Don't be discouraged mate - go for it ! You've got confidence and class and a good head on your shoulders, you can do it and then go back and show them that they made a big mistake.
