"Spiders are the fiercest killers in the animal kingdom." Vintage Kevin Smith fans know what's up.

(Kevin Smith was hired to write a Superman movie in the 90's. In his speaking tours he described sit-downs with eccentric producer Jon Peters, recounting various humorous details. One of which was his obsession with Superman fighting a giant spider. The movie fell apart, but Peters produced Wild Wild West and when Kevin saw it, he noticed the giant spider scene and knew why it was there. It's on KZfaq, and prime V1 Kevin tells it well)

@tperson8347 it would've been something different for sure. I wanna say Burton wanted to film Batman 89 in England to get away from Peters & his terrible suggestions. He's liked to help. If Peters had his way with Superman, the suit would've been unrecognizable like street clothes, he wouldn't fly and of course, battles his classic nemesis- a giant spider.

I actually bought the Will Smith “Jim West” figure in the clearance aisle of a Walmart back in 2000. Knew the movie was a dud and thought the figure might be worth something someday. My kid got ahold of it while I was at work & it vanished in his toy box after that. 🙄🤣🤣

I work doing video for live shows with my friends in upstate NY. The night we worked with Jay Leno we had decided to watch wild wild West. When Jay came down from his dressing room and saw us watching it he literally cocked his head sideways and looked at us.... We literally felt embarrassed...lol We made up for it by sharing our pizza with him but the shame was still felt from within...lol

Studios never got the message that old American TV properties made into movies don't sell domestically if people don't remember the original series, and they don't sell at all in non American markets who've never heard of them in the first place. "Qu'est- ce que l'House of Dark Shadows?"

True. My wife and I started [a few months ago] watching the old Dark Shadows tv show from the 1960s on Tubi. We're in the middle of season three. The old show ran every day as a soap opera so there were a lot of episodes. Jonathan Frid did a great job playing the vampire "Barnabas."

@tperson8347 Bert Kreisher's got a great story about Will Smith from 20+ years ago. Will discovered/signed him, wanted him to come to a private screening. Looking back at it now, I think Bert's dad's suspicions about Will's intentions might have had some foundation.

Awesome video, Junkman, as always. I can't believe I saw the Wild Wild West movie twice (I think I fell asleep both times, but I tried watching it through). I thought the movie was bad, and I can't believe Will Smith passed up the Neo role in The Matrix to make this. It makes sense that the action figure line for Wild Wild West wasn't successful, given its box office numbers. Speaking of low box office numbers and poor action figure sales, can you comment on Green Lantern, Junkman?
