The Erdtree we see in the game is actually two trees one that’s golden and one that look normal other than being gigantic. This is quite possibly in the past before the golden erdtree became a thing and fused with the crucible

Also, it’s interesting that they’re saying “let us walk a new path” which to me sounds like a prequel not a sequel to our current path. Either way, my body is ready

I haven't even played Elden Ring, and yet I'm super excited for the expansion to drop. Watching the game has been so cool and the fact that DLC is actually coming will make the experience all the more refreshing.

That yellow stuff leaking from the tree is sap presumably. I can't remember where exactly, but theres a location in Leyndell that has been sealed by erd tree sap. If Im not mistaken. So fucking hyped on this though

They’ve already have a segment traveling back in time to fight Placidusax, so I have a feeling it’s going back in the past too. I also feel like it’s going to be accessed through grabbing Miquella’s hand in the empyrean cocoon. It’s seems like such an important detail to put in the game and put within arms reach to not play a part at some point

i think the tree in the poster is the crucible because it became a host for the erdtree later on according to the lore. which makes me believe that this DLC will take part in the past prior to the golden order and all that stuff. maybe it will be accessible by entering into mequella's dreams in mohg's palace? who knows.

I'm pretty certain this sets place way into the future. If you've played DS3 you know about the end of the timeline where it's just you and Gael remaining, and that's where I think this is going too. Also, when they make the DLC, idk how they'll add it considering how interconnected the map is, but I think they'd probably have a cut off area after you'd beat Malenia. Or in the Erdtree at the end of the game, like how the portal to the Dreg Heap was at the First Kiln.

To me it seems like this is after the burning of the Erdtree, and that somehow Miquella has managed to create another type of Haligtree that wraps around the original Erdtree, as it seems like there is actually 2 trees that make up the one we see in the photo, with one tree (which I assume is the new Haligtree) wrapping itself around the burnt Erdtree that is oozing out… something.

It might possibly be a different tree, as you said certain people have shadows e.g. Ranni and Blaidd and with the DLC being named Shadow of The Erdtree, maybe this is the Erdtree's shadow?

I started playing elden ring because of Jev, Im like lvl 60 and still have barely idea whats going on but its been some of the most fun I've had playing a game. Now I gotta beat it, catch up on lore and then get ready to grind the new DLC.

With fromsofts history it’s almost definitely in the past. So knowing that, yea that’s either the crucible or the other great tree that came before the erdtree. Yea, that’s likely marika then(on torrent??) and this dlc will focus on the conquering of the now erdtree and the area. And also Miquella was already in a self inflicted slumber in the cocoon, but he was In the Haligtree. The hole we see in malenias room is where mohg cut him out

I don't think that can be the Crucible as Miquella was born after its time. Also, the ghostly gravestones make me think that this will be some kind of dream realm or even the afterlife (as true death equals going back to the Erdtree) with likely some ties to Godwyn, who Miquella tried to bring back.

if you looks closely, there's actually two trees, from what we know, there was a "world tree" before the erdtree, so that might be the erdtree "corrupting" or just growing through the old "world tree" replacing it or a new tree, corrupting the erdtree and growing around it, kinda taking it down and twisting it

I think it might be some type of dream realm. Elden ring has taken a lot of inspiration from Dark Souls and Bloodborne so I would not be surprised if you go to the egg thing Miquella was in and it somehow throws you in a dream he was having of the past when he was with Torrent and the Erdtree had not formed into a tree of life yet. Also Miquella was Torrents former master but I doubt Torrent would leave the tarnished side.

the way I'm interpreting it right now is that the tree was part of The crucible and the greater will came down like a parasite in the light Spears that pierced the tree and took control of everything leading to the events of elden ring. i have no idea if this is right and its from the few lore videos I've seen.

I need some godskin incantations (not black flame but the godskin ones that change your body like crucible) and sleep or more crucible incantations they seem fun asf and I need some new Thorn sorceries tbh

I want them to add a bizarre yet cool weapon that has an RNG component to it like in dark souls 3 that staff that can scream or instal kill/ damage a player so damn near killing point. I loved that weapon

The gravestones remind me of ds1 at the 2nd or 3rd bonfire with all the spooky skeletons

It's kind of absurd that i'm more excited for a DLC than any actual releases this year. I don't know what to make of it, but I have a feeling that we'll be traveling back in time like we did in DS1 in Artorias of the Abyss.

The dlc can be anything, in dark souls three you literally went inside part of a painting, and in bloodborne you go into the memories of a main character so it literally anything. There are two main probabilities that seem to be obvious that dude being Godwin or michella, but imo Michellas more probable because he is able to become a god with a outer god, and shadows are given to those who reach god hood, so I believe that’s in the future or alternative time line where Mogh didn’t kidnap him.

i call it that it’s the guide that helps you thruout the game and torrent- like maybe it’s before everything happened and it’s her making a mistake and her helping us is her making us fix her mistake or something and that’s why she fills fulfilled when she kills herself when she burns the tree ??

It would be really cool if it did take place after the main game, if the final boss is the character you beat the main game with for the save you’re playing on so you have to create a whole new character for the DLC.

I think it’s a completely different tree like it’s counter part cuz the entire landscape of the photo doesn’t look like the lands between at least from what I can remember

Its a dream sequence man, has to be. So much revolved around Miquela and his alternate personality, St. Trina. St. Trina whole thing was dreams and the dream world. We even go inside Godwyns "dream" in order to kill his dragon friend.
