The problem is that yes imperfections are allowed. But the amount of singing Out of tune, voice cracks, instability etc. was too much. That is the reason for the criticism/hate they are receiving. A few over their entire Performance are okay. But not during the entire Performance.

LE SSERAFIM really doesn’t deserve this hate train. I could go on for hours about why. No K-Pop group/s deserve it. I’m saying this as a Fearnot who doesn’t really keep up with other groups much (other than Unis and a few other global groups) it’s the point that these hater watch a 30 second video that highlights their voice cracks, if they really watched the entire thing and still hate them, they’re basically obsessive about them. LE SSERAFIM’s easy comeback (and most of their songs) are about either being confident in yourself and not caring about what other people think (antifragile, unforgiven, fearless, fire in the belly, smart, the great mermaid, etc.) , or about not actually being as fearless or strong as they seem and/or their struggles behind the scenes (swan song, easy, Fearnot, good parts, no celestial, we got so much *sort of*, etc.) Good bones literally talks about people who bring them down or call them “lucky”. They definitely can sing, Coachella is in a desert so ofc the air quality wouldn’t be that good, the performance before them ran late (I can’t remember the name tho) so their performance was delayed and the were obviously tired because it was around 11:30 pm, like in the video says their stage presence and choreo is very intense so it’s basically impossible to maintain a completely stable voice, and they were screaming to hype up the crowd bc it’s Coachella and that’s what everyone does. The standards for K-pop idols is insane. People compare 3-4th Gen idols to 2nd and even 1st Gen idols, saying older gens have better vocals, which to some extent is true but they also have a lot easier choreography in a range that fits their voices more. LE SSERAFIM has 4 sopranos and 1 mezzo who can sing up to a soprano range, ofc songs like Easy (and smart) especially the pre chorus is too low for them to sing. I truly hope they have less voice cracks on weekend 2 not to make it sound perfect but just to shut up the antis bc I’m sick and tired of them. Ik we as fearnots want the best for them. Let’s continue to support and defend them. Big hug to all of y’all.

I’m willing to bet the other big kpop groups out there are unlikely to do it raw like Lesserafim. No doubt Lesserafim needs some vocal training, but be honest.

I am not that much of a kpop fan in general I have to say that actually hearing them sing (although you could definitely hear 2 of the 5 better than the rest - I don't know if this was intentional or not) live was FAR better than some of the shows I've seen where the performers struggle to be heard over the backing track. I thought the vibe was great overall though and it looked like it would have been a lot of fun to be there in person.

I was also there and for the first time I really became a kpop fan or maybe just a fan of this group? but being a kpop fan is what I am really trying to avoid, that speaks volume to how much of a performance they delivered! They did so well! I don't know but they don't seems to have the same chemistry as these girls have the bond and laughs they share is just genuine and not forced so yeah... I won't be deep diving into the community 🙂‍↔️

@@Pandaharu A lot of groups are people who come from a pool of trainees in the company and just picked to form the group, but LE SSERAFIM Sakura, Chaewon and Yunjin all have history. They competed on a survival show to form a new group, and then Chaewon and Sakura went on while Yunjin was cut. They came together again for LE SSERAFIM. Those kind of deep roots make the relationship different I think, and with them being experienced, they guide and care for Kazuha and Eunchae.

i still believe the most fascinating fact that kpop fans especially kpop korean fan community isn't ready for super RAW performance without any backup vocal support, like i've seen many western music fans didn't like kpop because the nature of "perfection" and "life cutting survival" for idols; or artist; or even human. even some kpop group still attend western concert that have backup vocal support and pitch correction vocal to maintain their image. Secondly, the rising of crush/hiphop concept of kpop groups so many years made the expectation of perfection worsening years after years.

@@Jane_ARMYi'm not surely what really standard korean kpop communities over idols and performers, but as I seen so far by how they praise aespa for vocal but lacking of stage present and heavily criticise le sserafim (and illit recently) over vocal, highly the definition of k idol to them is a singers that entertain, not origin pop star like justins, britney, lady gaga or j idols like akb48 do, entertainers that sing (decently). yes, some pop stars is god/goddess both in singing and entertainers but that's rare.. it's pop music after all, secondly they not performing in award show, but USA festival which normally any ages people from normal to influencers and pop stars pay (or get pay) to camp on-site weaks, toget high, wear weird fashion, get food, party and drunk..😅😅😅

But in the west we never see these kind of reactions from anyone. Maybe a few but not as terrible as compared to kpop stans

Something I've noticed is that people who are criticizing them didn't even watch the performance at all. At least not the full performance. They only assumed what the performance would have sounded like based on their Easy encore or only watched Fire In The Belly which was literally the last song after 45 minutes of intense choreo, singing and jumping around. You can easily tell they haven't watched it when they still recycle the same old hate for Sakura when we all know Coachella is the most stable she's been in years, and even more stable than other members, or when they say other members were just shouting to avoid hitting their notes when that was probably 10% of the whole thing. Just cause haters have selective hearing doesn't mean the performance is as bad as it's made out to be.

I seriously love Seraphim even though I'm not a Fearnot. I think the problem wasn't the Coachella performance! Just like few people said, a music festival is about the hype and fun. The problem is just how stable they are and how good they are able to sing in common, and some fans can't accept how they got Coachella with those skills. Hybe or Source or whoever is managing them needs to take this into consideration...they have to be able to sing well right? Chaewon is most comfortable in a higher register and Yunjin too, Chaewon struggles in lower register and Yunjin does somewhat well comparatively. Kazuha can't sing high notes but ends up having the highest parts in most songs. Eunchae needs to train on controlling breath, losing breath and stuff. Sakura needs proper vocal training. All of them have potential! Le Sserafim's a sucker for performance and slays in dancing. I won't be lying if I say Chaewon totally carried the Coachella performance and of course she struggled a bit at some parts too...Sakura improved a lot compared to all that encores we saw, she needs to handle pitch properly, her voice is weak and lacks strength, this can be worked on! Eunchae had really tough time and she needs more stamina ig? Hybe...all we ask for is a proper vocal trainer for them, it won't even cost much for a company like Hybe! I'll forever love Le Sserafim, I'm not hating or criticizing. Edit: Stop trolling them and calling them names though! They can do it!

@@smashbro5 Live music really isn’t meant to be experienced virtually. I understand it makes it more accessible, but if you want a studio recording or just live vocals you have to seek out those resources. Considering MANY artists complained about the sound/microphones at Coachella and considering Palm Springs wind (which mics pick up) I’m not surprised essentially we saw them attempt to sing over loud instruments and the weather. Resulting in many occasions where it looked like they were trying to yell over it all just to be heard. But we’re some artists would be divas, they gave fan service and appeared to be having the time of their lives. For a job as hard as theirs it was nice to see. You could tell they were having a party with their fans. And I think that’s cool.

I just think that those who commented badly didnt even go there at coachella in person they are all just talk I bet that they just search in the internet only the clips that point out the flaws in their performance even though it is normal because you cant expect a performance in festival singing live and dancing to have such a stable vocals and at the same time to dance. I also want to praise their improvements and on how they handle their nervousness . They managed to hyped up the crowd as I watch the full performance even if I was home I can feel their energy. So i hope that these criticisms that they receive now wont affect them bad mentally because i want them to improve and be stronger. That is why I dont think that the ones that didbt attend the coachella should criticize their performance.........

They are the first people who criticized Lesserafim for not watching their performance on Coachella Live, instead from a fan cam, or even worse they never watched it, just based on hate. A lot of haters in my country, Indonesia, still make friends disband based on hate, I used to be buddy and like girlfriend, but it didn't make justification to hate Lesserafim.

We all know that no performance is perfect but there is a certain expectation and standard to be met especially at COACHELLA. Just take a look at Blackpink’s Coachella performance. They managed to dance and sing at the same time and people LOVED it so much with all the stage presence they are giving. They are the GOLD standard. Don’t use “Not being perfect” as an excuse for denying improvement and constructive criticisms.

if people wanted to see a perfect, studio version, completely spotless boring classic performance, they would watch the studio choom videos. coachella is a FESTIVAL. people go for food, drinks, dancing, and to see theyre favs in person. no one who actually goes is gonna be critiquing every performance cuz theyre mature enough to simply enjoy the fact that theyre getting to see these people in front of them. its the same with any concert, but especially music festivals. people go for pure experience not for a carbon copy of the music video.

I'm far from being knowledgeable when it comes to Kpop. But I'm obviously missing something here. It's expected that a group should sound like their studio version of a song WHILE performing dance choreography? Seems REALLY unrealistic to me. Ever tried talking to someone while jogging? Now try it while singing. I can't see how any amount of vocal "training" would mask the fact that they're basically doing aerobics WHILE singing.

it really is sad the amount of hate that LE SSERAFIM has gotten because of the Coachella performance. Feels like people have had so much hatred bottled inside themselves and just let it out when they saw LE SSERAFIM get flack for not singing perfectly live. Don't think its the greatest way to live your life but hey what do I know 🤷‍♂Was it not perfect? yeah. But was there an improvement from past years? I think so. LE SSERAFIM will continue to grow and will continue to improve and I cant wait to see that happen.

Le Sserafim did a GREAT job at Coachella. The stage presence and interaction with the crowd was exceptional. The crowd LOVED them. And 1-800-hot-and-fun was icing on the cake. I loved it and look forward to their performance this weekend.

Glad you posted this! I don’t u der stand all the hate. I’m not a fan of LSF but I thought their performance was great for Coachella. They had energy, they sang their hearts out, engaged the crowd, they looked like they were having a great time. Imalso don’t u der stand the people who begrudged them for shouting out the lyrics. It was a LIVE music festival people. Nothing stirs up the crowd faster than performers being emphatic with the words of their song. I think the haters probably expected the perfect lipsynched performances (with backing vocals) they’re so used to on Korean TV shows. One person even said they should have lip-synched! NO WAY! That’s not how music festivals in America work. They would have been booed off the stage if they performed like they’re on Korean TV. If there’s anyone to blame, it’s MNET and the other Korean networks that insist on perfect visuals and choreography, rather than performance and music. There’s no way live music will sound perfect. Korean Kpop idols who hold their own CONCERTS (not live music festivals like Coachella or Lollapalooza), where they can have control over the presentation lipsynch and use backing vocals.

There is difference between hate and criticism, hate is what Jennie or wooyoung get just because they are beautiful or onces hating on itzy or even twice when they changed their music style while lesserafim is getting criticism for such poor vocals but is not their fault it is "Hybe fault " for not hiring proper vocal coaches and debuting lesserafim too fast .Now sadly chaewon replied to this criticism with a middle finger and Sakura with her forever "victim card/I am new idol

There's a different between hate and criticism right? I am pretty sure that this is hate. I stopped stanning them since easy but have been following their updates. Since the encore until now I can say that the criticism grew into hate and the hate is growing bigger. There's a different between "your voice is horrible get a vocal coach" and "your voice is horrible so I'll say your performance was the worst and continue hating". Sakura was wrong for saying that but does she deserve hate? No. But there's immense hate towards them and other hybe ggs too.

I don't know where the toxicity comes from. I watched it and enjoyed it a lot. Yeah, there were some minor issues (like Kazuha's mic) and there is always room to improve, but nothing that really deserves all those negative comments. I am really looking forward to their next performance!

Tbh, I don't understand the hate theyre getting. I feel like the hate is exaggerated. Like Yunjin and Chaewon are talented singers, and I know the rest of the girls aren't as good as the two singers but they bring other flavor to the group like dancing, overall creating a performance. To be fair though, I know that Sakura's vocal needs some improvement, Eunchae and Kazuha's are okay and decent for the most part but not as dynamic as Yunjin and Chaewon. Nonetheless, I still don't get the level of hate they get?! Yes, there are rooms for improvement but the hate is too much I think. By the way, I'm a NewJeans fan, just leaving an objective comment.

People also need to realize that at least half of these hate comments are from trolls trying to get a rise out of kpop fans. Let's face it, kpop fans are some of the easiest targets when it comes to trolling. All they have to do is say something negative about a popular group and the fans will come flocking to the comment to 'defend' their faves. They can stuff about the not-as-popular groups too, but trolling a large group of people is much more satisfying for them than trolling a small group.
