I saw them in '64, '65 and'66. Couldn't hear them!!! Saw Paul years later solo and he was amazing and able to play songs they couldn't play as The Beatles because they didn't have the technology in the '60's. My friend was getting impatient for Paul's show to start and the minute he came on stage she started to cry. I guess it brought back 40 year old memories. There were people my age who grew up with them, their kids and their grandkids and they ALL were singing along with every song.

Paul McCartney has one of the best voices in music, probably. He's a man of a thousand voices, he can do whatever he wants with his voice and make it sound great. I'd love to see a reaction to 'Oh! Darling' by The Beatles, which shows the diversity in his voice, especially compared to this.

This was a live TV performance on the David Frost Show , complete with orchestra . The crowd was made of the studio audience .
@markamos1911
@markamos1911 Жыл бұрын
Afraid that's not the case. It was a video shoot on 4 September 1968 at Twickenham Film Studios, with only the vocals being live. The "audience" was made up of members of the local Beatles Fan Club, people pulled in off the streets around the studio, along with a few friends and some hired extras to ensure the audience was diverse. The Beatles "performed" it three times, and several different edits were made (their is an Ed Sullivan Show version, for instance). The David Frost edit is the most commonly seen, and is an edit of the 2nd and 3rd performance. They had already agreed to give the clip to The David Frost Show, to be premiered on 8 September, and Frost came into Twickenham on the 4th to record an introduction that would create the impression they were appearing live on the 8 September show. The Revolution video clips were also filmed the same day, again live vocals over a pre-recorded backing track. Both were filmed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, and led to the ill-fated "Get Back/Let It Be" project in January 1969 at the same studio, and with the same director.

Then in his solo works or with WIngs listen to "MAYBE I'M AMAZED" (the live 1976 concert version with Wings) and "BAND ON THE RUN" from the same concert. "MONKBERRY MOON DELIGHT" from his "RAM" solo album.

You knew something was coming at the end when the song’s pace and volume increased as all those people came on stage, but you didn’t have any idea THAT was coming! It was awesome. As I said yesterday ,on your Revolution reaction, I had the 45. I used to say they were today;s equivalent of ‘singles’ but I don’t think they are a thing anymore either). I probanly paid $1 or less for it with Revolution on the “B” side and Hey Jude as the “A” side. What times we grew up in! I am glad you have joined the party, JM. Thank you.

Back in the day, Critics were saying the Beatles were washed up, merely because they had not release a single in 6 months or an album in about 9 months. They they put out Hey Jude and kicked their ass. You just got a slice of what it was like to live in 1968. It wasn't perfect then, but here are the Beatles, bringing people together rather than tearing them apart like today.

The album version is even better than this live version. The reason is Paul McCartney, the lead singer, does some amazing vocal improvisations and screams on the record that you don't hear in this version. In my opinion, the best part of the song are missing in this version. I wish you would also do a reaction to the recorded version, as well. Or at least listen to it on your own time and let me know what you think. You should react to LET IT BE if you think this song sounds angelic. None of their songs sound as angelic as LET IT BE. Second place would be their song: The Long And Winding Road.

Awesome event... but note entirely performed live, by a long shot. The vocals, piano, and maybe the odd tambourine were evidently live, but the backing track was from the studio recording, down to the uncharacteristically muddy drum sound, which was owing to a technical glitch caused by alignment differences in the tape machines used for recording and mixing in different studios. Use of prerecorded backing tracks was often done back then to ensure precise running time on air.

Before the Beatles, advertisers WOULD NOT ALLOW songs more than 3-3.5 minutes long to be played on air. That was too much break between commercials back then. The Beatles with their more sophisticated songs, changed the dynamic of who was in charge, they made the radio fan based instead of commercial based.

Stating that Paul McCartney has a good voice is like saying the ocean has a lot of water. Paul McCartney has one of the best pop/rock singing voices ever -- quite possibly in the top 5. One of the things that made the Beatles so unusual is that all 4 members sang. Of the 4, two were/are among the best voices ever (Lennon & McCartney). A third member (Harrison) is a fine singer, although not up to the very high standard of Lennon and McCartney. The 4th member, Starr (the drummer), is not a great singer but he has an expressive and amusing voice. Of course, when you have Lennon, McCartney and Harrison singing backup vocals, Starr's songs shined brightly. And having 4 singers is just one of many reasons why the Beatles were unique.

For something different, check out Paul McCartney's carpool karaoke appearance on James Cordon.
