I mean all people have to learn how to read, it’s not a skill you’re born with or develop instantly, you have to be taught. It’s just another form of learning how to read, just in a different way. For someone who wasn’t born blind, learned how to read through sight, and tried to learn Braille it would be harder for them than someone who was born blind learning how to read it. Does this make sense?? (This isn’t intended to be hate, it’s just logical insight to think about.

Is a phrase used when speaking to a child or with one who is uneducated in the area you are speaking or writing about. I'm 42 and 21 years of my life was dedicated to early childhood development and early intervention services for special education students across most of the state of NC. My expertise was most specific to autism, but covered many areas, including the deaf and blind. I can very confidently say to you that, no, it is NOT the same process as a typically developing child learning to read. She has a lot more steps and processes that require a lot more skills, built upon/in addition to, the "typical ones" of learning letters, sounds, words, and translating that into a story. It is MUCH harder to feel your letters than to see them. It's a much more involved and difficult process to feel these letters, memorize the order and translate these into sounds, words and eventually into ideas and stories (all without the benefit of sight to give you a quick reminder of letter/word order). Then to do all of this at the same speed as a sighted child...yah, that took a lot of time, learning and skills. MORE than a typically developing child. Sure, it's harder for a sighted person to learn this skill, as it was not taught at the beginning, BUT do not diminish the extra steps, concepts and hurdles she faced, to learn to read so quickly and thoroughly with braille.

And of course you need a lot of those sheets because every letter takes a lot of space. But what if... they make a page. With all the 6 dots full on the page. And the machine will read the ebook and change the page as you read it. That will cost less than 200 euro I am sure.. and that means infinite reading. Feel free to become a millionaire with this idea.

I’m sorry but given the amount of money Harry Potter has made, why aren’t there funds available for use to make braille books as affordable as non braille? A percentage of each sale of a non Braille book should go towards a braille book.

@@cbenji2 braille is typically on different (thicker) paper which is more expensive and most printing manufacturers, sadly, don't even the necessary equipment to do the impact printing. Also, they can't fit the same amount of characters per line normal printing can, increasing number of pages in book. Lastly, braille isn't usually double sided. They do, nowadays, have newer printers that print raised dots of special ink, which allows double sided pages much easier. But again, paper type and quantity, special equipment, high-tech "ink" and techniques/processes lead to high cost and low availability.

Probably because it's a specialty item, as opposed to the cheaper to mass produce print versions of Harry Potter. The tools and die needed to produce these books are ridiculously expensive and the people who produce them have to meticulously quality check them in order to ensure that they're legible.

@@xgamecodes Yeah I’m sure audiobooks were just the cheaper option. Most of the time Braille books are expensive so for her it was probably audio or no Harry Potter at all.

For blind people their other senses are heightened. Hearing, Smell, Taste and Touch. The one of touch really amazed me. Just from touching a person's face for instance, they will know what you look like. It's almost like their finger tips can see. 🙂

Some people are born blind and probably would prefer to stay that way because they were “born this way “

the world is just as beautiful to them, they can ‘see’ it through their other senses, the smells, sounds, and feelings of things around them. never think that blindness can stop someone from living a fulfilling life. take pete the blind surfer for example, or blind skateboarders. your powers are limitless regardless of the cards given to you by birth. ☺️❤️‍🔥

Almost everyone can see the beautiful things in the world, even if it’s not in the same way. Smell the flowers. I don’t have a great olfactory sense. Look at the beautiful picture. Not everyone can see. Listen to the music and birds. Sadly there are those who can’t do that. Taste delicious ice cream! I can’t think of people who can’t taste, but there are those allergic. Hugs. @@munkemune Absolutely! In case you wanted to know, stimming is basically a physical response to any emotion that feels “big” or overwhelming, usually including repetitive movements/noises. It can be done by anyone, but is seen most prevalently people with Autism, ADHD, and other neurodevlopmental conditions. Sometimes it’s done to self-soothe, but in this case, it seems this was just her body’s natural response to being extremely happy and excited! : )
