Prickly almost got award of the naughty porcupine of the night, but the new one got that by pooping all over the deck.

The groundhog tried that a few years ago. I didn't latch the front door correctly and the groundhog pushed his way in. There was a 50 lbs bag of peanuts sitting there. He grabbed the bag and tried to pull it outside with him.

unlikely that the porcupines will let other, potentially rabit critters free reign around his property they really are the best anti-wildlife security system he could ask for - not a predator, deters both small predators and bears, doesnt eat much, feeds on vermin and pests sucks that our instinct to pet animals is of such anathema to interactions with a porcupine, but one day... who knows? Would make for one special experience for him

Some people do have them as pets actually. Once they get to know that people aren’t a threat they basically never try and attack their owners or humans in general. They’re surprisingly docile once they are accustom to home life.

I never knew that porcupines could be so round. So funny that they were trying to get in the house, they know it’s nice and warm and they can get food. So wish we have porcupines where I live.

Hes regularly feeding them. If you leave food out for animals, animals are going to show up.

Wholesome! I can tell they trust you a lot. Funny thing, here in Sweden we have hedgehogs (they are quite rare) and they are very nervous creatures, but when i got to pick one up that was stuck in a fence in a parking lot, i could feel on his "spikes" if they were tense or relaxed - making it easy for me tell how he was feeling, when i picked him up, i could feel them pressing out, and when i stood still and made him calm down i could feel them relaxing, and when he felt safe i just carried him around like a baby in my jacket keeping him warm while i walked to the nearest forrest to release him. It feels so rewarding earning any animals trust - even for just a short while :)

5 out of 6 are very gentle. One is a tiny bit aggressive, but mostly with the other porcupines.

@@joels7605 I'm no expert, but can't you pet them by brushing your hand along the same direction as the spines? (Note, I'm not suggesting anyone try this, unless they know it's true. Also, possibly not a good idea to do with wild animals anyway.)

@@MythraenYou absolutely can. I've done it to Chonkers. He's the most relaxed porcupine. I don't think he likes it, but he'll let it happen if you give him apple slices.

A friend has a lovely new home on a lake in a remote forested area of southeastern Ontario. Went on a two week vacation and had a great time. Until he got home! A porcupine discovered his very quiet house. The critter ate a huge hole in a solid hardwood door, but his house checking neighbour saw the damage, had the MNR officers trap the bad boy and relocated it. Imagine what will happen here if he runs out of nuts! 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦
