It wasnt explained well bec exo seemed well-received during their debut but that wasn’t 100% the case. Their company SM was very well known to be holding a bunch of the most popular kpop groups during this time, Super Junior, SNSD (girls generation), and Shinee, so the anticipation was OFF THE ROOF for this “new boy group” that they were about to debut for the first time in 3 years. It was a double edged sword, loyal fans from senior groups who like the SM style were going to be giving this new group attention and potentially become their supporters. The bad side was, casual fans of kpop, non-fans of kpop, and the general korean public would hear about them too and have certain standards of them by just hearing that they’re from SM. So, a lot of eyes and pressure on this group of 17-21 year old boys. And SM introduced them online as if they were a bunch of very talented, MYSTERIOUS, intimidating bunch different to what everyone has seen from their senior groups before. SM was very experimental with exo, not just in their lore, concept, group structure, but their debut song too was unusual. It was attention-grabbing, but it wasn’t what was appealing to the general public, which SM is known for. And because of that, a lot of the public felt entitled to show their dislike for exo, some of them saying how their skills fell short of what was hyped of them, how they were kinda weird for an SM group and think they probably wouldn’t be successful much (other 2012 rookies were getting good attention this time as well, competition was tight), and most of all will fail to live up to their senior groups’ popularities as an SM group etc. (lol now they remain still as the most popular and with the most revenue to the company🥹) And then came their hiatus, 1 year doesnt sound long for us, but for the kpop industry, it’s is a very long hiatus for a newly-debuted group😅 hmm, an idol’s debut promotions is a VERY important window timeframe to get a new group “out there”. If you’re new-NEW, you get people’s attention and they might want to get to know more about you. Once that’s done, you need to have new content out, or a follow up comeback within the next few months, to keep the attention HOT. Or else they’ll see other new groups, old group comebacks etc and you’ll be put on the back burner. Now if you debut, and then disappear or lay low, you risk people losing interest in you esp bec kpop is competitive. People are not attached to you to become solid fans, for them to care enough to keep posted on your new group or not forget about you. Attention becomes lukewarm, and if you do comeback late, the NEW-new factor excitement won’t be there anymore nor the familiarity to a favorite group interest. Not-so-new, but not-so-interesting, and that reception might become a kpop group’s slow failure to enter and establish themselves in the kpop music scene. So it was a tactic often used by companies when they debut a new group, so it came as unusual when they gave exo a year hiatus after they debuted… i remember those fans who DID follow exo become unsure and worried about whether we were gonna get a next album in bec there really was no telling. Hope i explained that well. In the end, exo did have a comeback after a year, but the song was NOT conventional, Wolf was very weird (it grows on you lmao) and that was a whole ‘nother history, but that was also quite a big disappointment and became a reason for the public to keep criticizing exo. (Growl was the “follow-up” song of Wolf, meaning it was the repackaged songs added to the album, and that hit BIG-BIG!!!)

Suho has always been the leader, although Kris was leading EXO M, I think his personal problems forced him to sue to depart from EXO. Not saying that SM Entertainment wasn't deserving of being sued by the 3 Chinese members. Kris had many females come out and accuse him of S.A. whether that is true or not is not for us to decide. He was sentenced by the Chinese Court of Law to 13 yrs. He will be deported back to Canada once his sentence is complete.I think most exols today would like for it to remain at exo-9. They were all so precious when they started with EXO. Some of them had been in training with the company for years. They are more then just members to one another, they are brothers, family. We hope that one day, Lay can perform with them again.

No, Suho was always the leader of EXO. They also had leaders for EXO-K and EXO-M. Anyways I don't think the other members should even be associated with EXO anymore, since EXO is a 10 year old group and they were there for just 2 years. EXO had been 9 members for 8 years now. The others are just a footnotes in their past.
