I love dropping a drop shot in snaggy spots bass fishing. You can actually use big flies tipped as well. Great video 👍

Funny! That's the same thing we do up here in the Great Lakes area when winter fishing. Drop shot with a minnow (or leach) and jig really slow on the bottom.

The Barefoot jigs are amazing. The back and forth motion when twitching your rod tip is crazy.. they catch everything. And fish well from jigging in the ocean to what you are doing in this video. Try a zoom super fluke with them. Definitely one of my favorite jigs I have ever used!!! Love the vids! Keeping the dream alive!!

I've used those same Gulp minnows in black and white but I never rigged them through the nose. Caught lots of Speckled Trout and White Perch with them. I'm changing how I run the hook now, better movement out of it. Great video!

"Big Bait - Big Fish" ... You're making a good case for it. Though the drop-shot rig will always be snag-prone, the soft plactic jigs *can* be Texas rigged to reduce hangups.

Hey Elias, that's the exact fish I'm hoping to catch this coming Thursday. That was a great 1 hour of fishing... This reminds me of that New Tokyo rig I'm seeing on KZfaq. Kinda cool and supposed to help with getting hung up.

You probably know but they do make weedless dropshot hooks, they will effect your hook rate but it's hard to say some times. They also make dropshot weights, the tips are pinched together, you pull the line through it (no knot). If the sinker gets snagged the line can pull free with enough force. Your out of the sinker, but it saves the rest of the rig.

I use it for crappie for good effect. You end up watching bass and catfish with it too and on ultralight tackle, it's a challenge. But fun

Fine fishing, great job ! Reminds me of my youth dissecting the reservoir's with my fish finder, jigging up small mouth and white perch. Now in the SW w my yak I don't use the fish finder but I do have it rigged up to use. If I had a buddie to ride shot gun in deep water I would try it again. 5 lb reds are about as good as it gets on light tackle jigging.

Nice job out there. Pretty successful I'd say. I just got back from the upper Niagara. Had to cast between icebergs floating down the river. Got 2 decent walleye and a 12 lb laker . Very cold breeze coming off the river. Only lasted 3 hrs. Take care bud.

Have you tried a Texas eye jig head? Works well casting or jigging around structure, you still lose a few but no where near as many as a jig head with an exposed hook. The stripers there get dialed in on white bodies and I tend to catch more of them than the reds Tight lines!

Started drop-shotting this year for finicky fall smallies up north here. They were in 65 feet of water! Didn't catch a lot, but they liked the 3.5" white fluke on the drop shot, just barely twitched. You turned in a pretty good day for tough conditions, so big props for sticking with it and figuring out what would work. Like Edison said, success is 5% inspiration and 95% perspiration. LOL! That net's gotta go, tho....just sayin'

Drop shot in salt. Glad you tried. Powerbait maxscent shad, black and white or blue and white are killer and hold up better than gulp minnows

I like the powerbait in fresh - but I don’t find that scent to be as effective as Gulp! In saltwater fish for some reason

@@EliasVFishing will try the gulp minnows in SW. the powerbait shad I should qualify, works surprisingly good for whiting and Tautog of all things! With a little procure, the texture holds it well

I have used that 3" Gulp minnow with some success in fresh water. I don't know how it would work in the salt but the 3" Gulp Alive black leach is one of the best fresh water drop shot baits I have used. Usually out performs the minnow for me. You might want to try that in the salt. Almost everything fresh water will eat it.

@@EliasVFishing I also use a #1 Mosquito hook for drop shot and weights specifically designed for drop shot. Those weights are not tied but clip to the line. Many times you only lose the weight when you get hung up. Also the smaller hook gets hung up less often. You might think that little hook might be too small for bigger fish but because of the way the hook sits it almost always gets the fish on the upper lip. Rarely will you not hook a fish if they bite even if they are quite large.

Great vid. How do you think the zman snake lockz would work in this situation. I go the cheap option and just add a shank weight to my favorite twistlock style hook. Both are good weedless options. They work well for me when chasing stripers in the albermarle and lower pamlico

My ears perked up when I heard 'zoom fluke'. A chartreuse super fluke on a belly weighted hook is deadly for stripers and big largemouth. I've had moderate success with trout tho.

I’ve done pretty well with them for trout. I like going belly weight in shallower. Haven’t been able to figure it out for 10’-15’ belly weight.

The prob with dropshotting is you are gonna get hung up a million times if ya dont know the water. I think you got really lucky. Its usually not that easy. But rather be lucky than good!😎
