The Malaysian parents of Goi Zhen Feng travelled to Thailand in late August 2022 hoping to rescue their son from online scammers, but on September 15 had the grim task of collecting his cremated remains. Investigators said they believe the 23-year-old’s death is among the first to be formally linked to a rising number of scams, often operated by Chinese gangs, that prey on young people across Asia. Goi had travelled to Bangkok in late January saying he was going to meet a girl he had met online. Investigators believe he was caught up in a scam and died from injuries and illness related to abuse he suffered during his ordeal.

So don't I but for them to never happen again, bad people would have to cease to exist. Unfortunately, this won't stop but online platforms can help by paying better attention to who is on their platforms and what they post, taking reports seriously and following up on them and banning MAC addresses of devices that have been in trouble for doing really shady stuff in the past. The internet is a dangerous place and people need to be better educated on how to keep themselves safe. Literally everyday I hear about something like this happening. I used to be an admin in a Facebook group to stop online scammers but trying to get Facebook to stop these jerks was impossible. It's like they want that type of filth on their platforms and they don't care about their users. Whether it's Facebook or something else, things need to change or this will unfortunately keep happening.

Syndicates like this in Thailand are often linked with their local government. Most syndicates like this in South East Asia are run by Syndicates Chinese from Mainland China. Illegal Drugs in the Philippines and Vietnam, Human Trafficking in Malaysia and Thailand, Prostitution in Thailand, Child labor in Indonesia etc. These are all dominated and run by Chinese crime syndicates. They can't operate in Mainland China so they operate in South East Asian countries where governments are easy to be bribed.

Probably, one and a half months ago, 7 guys from Nepal had been taken to Laos to work in a Chinese-run cryptocurrency-related company. He happened to call me asking me to join the group as the possibility of earning is high. As he said, they not only pay a handsome salary of about $1000 to $1200 but also give a 20% commission for a transaction carried out. When I asked him, what is the work that you should do? He said he is not allowed to talk about it to others openly as he is instructed to keep it top secret. The moment he said he is not allowed to talk about what he does there, I was touched seriously. When I researched I found Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand have been a hub for these scammers to run their operations. To run these operations, initially, they tricked Malaysia and Chinese guys into the scam. When news agencies exposed them and the public learned about them, they started taking guys from non-Mongolian countries, though not completely.

There are so many scammers in malaysia pretending to be officials and I don't know what the government doing to tackle this issue. I alone had received 3 anonymous calls claiming they are from the official asking me to pay debt (in which I don't have). Already made a police report prior to that months ago but still no news.

A very painful ordeal any parents can go through. This is a question of has technologies benefited or destroyed us. People must realized success can be only with true effort. Success needs sacrifice but not like this. The criminals ought to be gunned down by any government enforcement agencies. Rest in peace. My deepest condolences to his parents.

Rip young man. It's sad that you were scammed and lost your life for that. I'm also one of the victim got scammed few times, but was fortunate I didn't have to loss much money nor my life for it. Guys, please learn the Red Flags of online relationships. Put a stop when you sense something is wrong. Don't think with your lower body part. There are many REAL "fishes" in the ocean. Also don't use money to buy love, you will lose in the end.

i am also in a long distance relationship, well was, at first i was anxious, been dating her for 3 years online, we've chatted on video call and stuff but with computers it's easy to impersonate as a woman, she is from china, after 3 years of Online dating i took the first step and went to meet her, luckily it was an actual girl, we're going 7 years strong now. let's not completely lose faith in humanity but let's not also underestimate the fact we're constantly under danger online.

The ASEAN country's Police departments & forces should be doing the works, obligations and duties to safeguarding people from organized criminal scams & activities. Many country's youngsters and people looking for job supporting the family were lured into the racket. This would spread to every ASEAN countries if left uncheck. Thailand Police needs to be more responsible & diligent not to providing a safe Heaven for crimes, scam & death.
