Woman Scolds Man For Using Food Stamps (VIDEO)

Recently in a Walmart checkout line a woman was filmed berating a man for using food stamps. The video has now gone viral. Ana Kasparian, Hasan Piker (Pop Trigger), and Francis Maxwell (TYT Sports), hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"Video posted on KZfaq shows a woman at a Walmart store loudly berating a man who was paying for his groceries with food stamps.
As a child sits in the man’s shopping cart looking on, the woman complains about how she is paying for his food with her tax money.
At another point, the woman claims the man must be a supporter of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.
“That’s exactly what you vote for, they give it to you so that you vote that way,” the woman says. “I’m not stupid. I have a degree. I’m pretty damn smart.”
The footage picks up mid-argument. It’s not clear when or where it was filmed, or even if it was staged, as it was in a viral incident that took place in a Walmart parking lot late last year.
However, this argument has been going viral since being posted on KZfaq last week, with more than 130,000 views to date, and there have been a number of reports of other shoppers being confronted in stores over their use of food stamps.
Ironically, the woman in the new video who is complaining about food stamps is shopping at Walmart - a retail chain where wages are so low that many workers qualify for public assistance.”*

Shilo Englert Just for the record, (unfortunately I'm an expert), you can not pay for toilet paper with food stamps. It isn't food. LOL It must be an edible, you can not by food already prepared, like a rotisserie chicken (which makes NO sense when they go on sale at about 2100 hours). The exception to being edible is to buy seeds or starts to garden more food. It's great except seeds and starters cost SO much anymore, I can't afford to garden, even buying the seeds with food stamps. Some farmers markets now give you twice the amount of fruits and vegetables as the stores if you're using food stamps. Actually, an e.b.t. card, electronic balance transfer card. Like a debit card, far less embarrassing than the actual stamps were. No tobacco products whatsoever, no liquor of any sort, no accessory products or paper products, t.p. as previously mentioned, foil, baggies, diapers (for babies or the elderly). All those things and more must come out of the famous "fixed income of S.S.Disability". Didn't mean to bore you, I just overflow as the font of useless trivia.

+darkcoeficient you don't know he doesn't have a job, I work full time and am still eligible for food stamps because I don't make enough to pay for my rent, utilities, food for 3, etc. many people on food stamps work but need the supplemental assistance because the waves are so low.

darkcoeficient An economy should not allow room for plunder (exploitation) or parasitism. However, unless you correct both, you correct neither. And the crazy thing is the Walden family are some of the more exploitative employers in existence. And they’re going to be the harder to correct than the food stamp people, as they’re the ones with the money to lobby legislators and buy candidates. The guy with the food stamps isn’t buying any candidates. He’s got enough to keep his family alive and that’s it. 47 million other Americans are in the same boat as him-this, whether they have jobs or not. They simply have no free capital to assemble a team of Jack Abramoffs and to begin bankrolling candidates through superPACs. I don’t know if that answers your question, but it is why I wrote what I did in my comment.

We do not hate poor people...we dislike people that are free riding the government because it costs us money in taxes. If someone needs foodstamps and what not, then it is okay. This man is a free loader, it is irritating to see a lazy free loader piggy back off your paycheck to purchase a rather full basket of food...like Kix cereal, as can be seen. This video is completely liberal media crap that is staged against Republicans.

Unfortunately most people have it in their head that a sizable minority or even a majority of food stamp users are these lazy welfare queens that sit on their ass all day in a section 8 apartment (housing subsidy), smoking weed, collecting welfare checks, and pop out babies. Now while those people exists, it hasn't been proven that they are a majority or even a sizable minority of welfare recipients.

Matt Winters Based on what? If anything, we expect the number of food stamp users to increase just based on the increasing number of citizens. Never mind the decline in jobs that are available to support oneself (and one's children) with just a high school diploma. Never mind the number of corporate mergers that have occurred over the years, mergers that led to a declining number of support positions (I.e. two banks need two accounting firms, two headquarters buildings with two building managers and cleaning firms, two bank examiners,, etc. where as one bank may only need one of each).

I would like to think that this family is doing everything possible to try and provide for their family, but in honesty if you can't afford food perhaps they shouldn't of had kids yet. Now there are deeper problems at play here with how corporations have been buying off politicians and creating the crap shoot we currently are in. I myself by not having kids am able to work any hours necessary to get the promotions in which i got to make more money.

It's inappropriate, no two ways about it. Right after the 2008 crash, I saw people buying groceries with coins. They had no cash. Some nervously waited to see their bill total, some did not have enough money, and tried to put things back. Basics, like eggs, milk, bread, potted meats. I would give them money. Instead of denigrating those who may have fallen on hard times, behave like you're a man who understands that not everyone has as much as you do. Be kind. Be considerate. Don't judge. For those who have kids and may have been laid off their job, keeping a roof over their heads is paramount. When it comes to feeding their kids, I know A LOT of poor parents who will go hungry so their kids can have more. They shop at thrift stores, wear hand-me-down clothing, shoes that are so worn, they have holes in them. There is absolutely NOTHING RIGHT about shaming someone in public because they are on some sort of public assistance. This woman ought to be ashamed of her own behavior, but some of you out there listen to too much Fox News, and somehow have gotten the idea that YOU have the right to disrespect others in this manner. Shame on you. GROW UP.

so true the 08 crash did several things I observed. 1, piggy bank money, the chalky smell from the piggy bank stinks up money. 2, Many old bills started popping up, I got quite a few 1960s bills people obviously had to use, even silver coins made it into my change.

This kind of mentality (poor blaming poorer) had early beginnings in American slavery. Rich slaveowners were able to convince poor white farmers to hate black slaves, even though both were being screwed by the economy set in place by those rich slaveowners. The area managed to convince these poor white farmers to die fighting for the system that screwed them. The fact that this mentality has lasted to today is really sad.

I'm conservative, I'm a Afghanistan War veteran, I'm a full time student whose also applied to jobs around town during the semesters and during the summer, I'm an engineering major, and I'm using my GI Bill, but after paying my rent and bills each month, I have $32, usually depending on the electric bill, for food each month. If this woman was behind me at Walmart when I pulled out my EBT card, I honestly don't know that I'd be able to stop myself from hitting her in the face. What has that woman ever done for the country? Pay some measly taxes but probably doesn't even care enough to confront state representatives using tax payer money to eat at lavish restaurants for themselves and their whole family. I've done and am doing too much to not eat for the last week of each month while waiting for that next BAH stipend. I'll be damned if some fat woman tries to make me or anyone that's just trying to survive feel shame for needing some help.

One can have a job and still need food stamps, especially if one has a child. As others on this page have pointed out, a huge proportion of Walmart workers receive them, so it is quite possible that the checker that was about to serve them does as well. Either way, the woman accosting him had no right to treat him like that.

+gotskinn They would still take it but it would be used for more important things. 30% of all US debt is owed to its self because it cost more to run the country then they government gets. So if they stopped food stamps money would be used to improve roads and other things. I know that some people do need food stamps, but some people are just lazy. I would make new rules about who gets food stamps.

I commend the Wal-Mart cashier for not yelling at the woman even though they're probably on food stamps too. In my opinon, everyone should work as a cashier at some point. Until I worked at Wal-Mart I had no idea not only just how many people are on food stamps, but how many working people are on food stamps, and not just my coworkers, but workers all over town, from other stores, small businesses, even a fair number of factory workers.

My dad killed himself working 80+ hours a week to provide for me and my brother as kids. And yes, he used food stamps. Even working two full time jobs plus a weekend job he needed them. He got hurt on one of the jobs years ago and couldn't work anymore. Through complications of the injury he died 5 years ago. He busted his ass and was embarrassed to use food stamps because of the looks he would get. People like that woman in the video are the problem with this country. Not the lower-middle - lower class.

I work retail to provide for my family, I had a woman who was Caucasian come through my line her head held down ashamed to use the card. She began telling me what happened, I said sweetie, don't hold your head down, do not be ashamed, if this is how you are able to feed your self and family. Be thankful you have something. You owe Noone a explanation as to why you use your card. Be blessed and continue looking forward. She said that is the kindest thing said to her bc her family turned on her. That's what ppl like her don't see, ppl are so capable and have so much potential, they deserve to be invested in. Why not provide food so they're not only working to feed themselves, so they're able to spend the little money they have on getting their kids school supplies or working on a hobby that can help them build skills for the future? If it weren't for these programs, the cycle of hunger would never end, it's like they want ppl to die for being poor. I can't think of many things more inhumane than that.

I am disabled and I receive food stamps. My sister works about 40-50 hours a week as an assistant manager at a chain store (not Walmart). Her boyfriend is disabled and can't work, but receives social security. He also takes care of their 2 boys to avoid the expense of childcare. She still needs food stamps to have enough money to feed her kids every month. None of us are lazy, in fact I am working toward a degree so I can go back to work.

This happened to me 30 years ago. I had just finished two years schooling to be an aircraft mechanic. There were no jobs in the area as Boeing had just laid off thousands of workers. I had food stamps and this cashier started giving me a hard time. I loudly ( so everyone could hear me) proclaimed: " I WANT YOUR JOB " She sure shut her mouth in a hurry when the manager scurried over to apologize . I honestly hope that she lost her job that day.

I remember when my oldest, and now successful adult, daughter was 4. ALL she wanted for her birthday was a decorated cake from the store. That is ALL she wanted--at FOUR YEARS OLD! I picked out a small one and the lady in the bakery wrote her name and Happy Birthday on it. My daughter was THRILLED. Some nosy b**** behind me made a nasty remark about it. I didn't say anything because I was new at the whole food stamps thing (my now ex-husband decided that crystal meth was more important than his kids. I was working but needed help anyway) but the cashier had a few things to say! I was well-known at that store, as were my kids. I shopped there all the time and the employees and manager were always so impressed at how well my kids behaved. Long(er) story sort(er)--that woman was escorted out of the store and told to not return.

Well, MonkeyShaman , neither of what you just said makes sense, because: 1. a question mark should _only_ be used for an inflection if the sentence it ends really _is_ a question, and... 2. that kind of inflection _doesn't_ actually show that anything it's used on is obvious, and... 3. it actually _wasn't_ obvious, because... 4. it wasn't even a complete thought to begin with. But like I said, at least thanks for completing your thought to some degree now even though it ended with the wrong punctuation. Thank goodness we have the ability here to edit our old replies -- even with a phone -- so you can fix that error. (And hint: it'd take less effort in keypresses to just do it than it would to type out some lame excuse for not wanting to!)

I am a hard core CONSERVATIVE.... I would NEVER embarrass someone in public like that, and I would NEVER embarrass a man in front of his children. Our economy is messed up right now. I'm sure he doesn't want to be on food stamps. There are no Jobs!!!! 53% of the population is OUT of the workforce right now. When you no longer qualify for unemployment, you are no longer counted as unemployed. Just google "Labor participation Rate" in America.

This lady is completely out of line. She has no idea what his circumstances are. I grew up in a home with a single parent my mother and with 4 other siblings. My father was not there due to other circumstances. We would have starved otherwise. I am now very successful and pay plenty of taxes every year. I have no issues with people needing help with my tax money. The other thing the lady has no clue about is the basis for the food stamp program. It is a subsidizing programs to keep farmers farming. You know the people who toil in harsh conditions day in and day out to make sure we all eat and barely get by to keep their. farms going.

with the prices of things these days in most families both parents have to work and for all that wonen knew his wife or him could have a disability and cant physically work. sure he may seem normal but so does my family. mums deaf with really bad arthritis, my autism and lastly my sister who had a heart amd lung condition.
