I'm a military police officer (security forces) and i don't get why civilian cops are held to a different standard than us. we are taught from day one never to shoot someone unless they are ACTIVELY pointing a gun at you (and many more rules but im keeping it short) we cant just shoot someone because they have a gun or we're scared for our lives. we would go to jail for some bullshit like that. and that's mostly because of the second amendment. people are allowed to have guns. you cant just kill someone because your scared of a weapon they Might use.

MrAfro1995 Sadly, that isn't the case. Officers can kill you if you so much as answer the door with a pistol pointed at the floor. Andrew Scott was killed because the police were pounding on his door at 3am. They didn't announce they were police and he answered the door with a pistol.

a) I hope those cops feel great about themselves. b) I'm throwing it out there: The US is the country with the worst policing in the world. Cerainly among wealthy countries.
@DressedNudist
@DressedNudist 6 жыл бұрын
Regarding b). Most local police forces require a high school diploma or equivalent. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics police academy training averaged 19 weeks. Nations like Sweden or Germany require two and a half years of training at a higher institute of learning. Sweden outsources police training to three universities. Simply put: Police training in Sweden is at university level. So, yes, the US law enforcement training seems pretty laughable by comparison. Unfortunately, it's not a laughing matter when people get killed due to insufficient training.

I'll say it. I'm anti-police. I have family who are police officers, and even they are anti-police. They admit that a LARGE portion of the people they work with are "bad people" and that they are required to cover for them. Several have quit over it. But it isn't JUST the training. By design, having infinite authority with no accountability attracts scum who are looking for a power trip.

Why do these cops approach incredibly benign situations like they are in a war zone? 4 deputies against 1 woman that didn't even have a gun, a physcopathic power driven cop with an AR 15 against a unarmed helpless man in shorts and a t shirt begging for his life. They are not a military force, they are enforcers of law tasked with protecting the community from these tragedies. If they can't distinguish/identify weapons with certainty, or turn out to have miscalculated slight movements as reaching for a gun, it's a recipe for disaster. They rush to shoot first out of paranoia and discover later they overreacted in a situation they didn't need to escalate to begin with. Just ask them to freeze and put down the weapon if it's one actor you're pursuing and there's no gun in plain sight.

The last time a innocent kid or person got shot or killed by Belgian police was in 2009. Thats 1 person in 9 years , while in the US cowboy cops do it daily mutiple times. Its even rare a suspect gets shot when that suspect does not releases his gun to the ground or is a to big threat. In 2016 , terrorists hiding in Brussels even had a chance to surrender untill they started to shoot first themselves. Cops also just saw a terrorist walking around and just pushed him to the ground without shooting. In my country , cops are still cops , in the US they are just plain cowboys and thugs that do not care if they kill a suspect or innocent bystanders.

that's why they did what they did in the first place; this is why cops behave as they do: the odds of walking are astronomical..not enough cops get charged, or convicted..they should: after all, they have the lives of every man, woman and child in this country in the palms of their hands - lives they're willing to take if you tyrn your head the wrong way (according to them, of course)..private citizen are just as bad - making excuses, and not doing ANYthing to put a stop to any of this..so who's worse, hmmmmm?????????

In the 90's if a cop pulled out their gun they were put on leave. If they fired it they were suspended or fired. They were trained to DE-ESCILATE the situation at all costs, even if that meant they lost their lives. They need better training and better pay so we get people working as cops who understand that sometimes doing the right thing means we pay the highest price.
@WLee-fl7vp

Wrong, I started my career in law enforcement in the mid 80's and for the 30 years of service I put in, NOT ONE officer who drew his service weapon was ever put on leave for it. Trimming this down for time and space as the process is long and I am leaving out a bunch of steps in it (this is the nut shell version) ---- As, far as police involved shootings, the officer(s) involved ARE place on either administrative duty(desk duty) or administrative leave (depending on departmental policy). Once Internal Affairs Division has finished the investigation, the shoot is either ruled justifiable and within policy and then the officer may be returned to active duty or ruled justifiable but not within policy requirement (may result in disciplinary action up to suspension or even termination) or found unjustifiable and terminated. If terminated for a bad shoot, then the case is turned over to the District Attorneys office for prosecution -- it is then up to the DA if charges are filed. Also should mention the officer must see a department Psychologist/Psychiatrists and be cleared by them to return to active duty.
@andrewgru7077
@andrewgru7077 6 жыл бұрын
W. Lee the police where I am had that for their department at that time. Its since changed. But we have only had a cop pull and discharge a weapon once in the last 5 years. Large town.
@WLee-fl7vp
@WLee-fl7vp 6 жыл бұрын
Interesting policy if its true, never heard of anything remotely close to that. I also worked for a very large department in one of the top 10 largest US cities. Officer involved shootings are RARE .... In reality, the VAST majority of LEOs will NEVER be involved in an OIS at any point during their career. There are more than 1 million armed law enforcement officers in the US (according to the DOJ -BJS) based on this number and the average number of annual OIS incidents in the US..... we are talking about less that 0.1% of all officers each year that are involved in any type of OIS. Obviously the vast majority of those are undeniably justifiable. Are there questionable or blatantly bad shoots? Of course. It is tragic when they happen and I support the prosecution of officers who are involved in blatantly bad shoots..... Was this incident a bad shoot? I do not have all the information I need to say so one way or the other....The stray bullet that hit the child is tragic. The law does make one responsible for every round fired......does that necessarily mean one will be charge much less found guilty in a court of law....even in this scenario....that is up to the investigators, the District attorney and in the case of a trial, the Jury.

I saw a video of at least 3 cops shooting at a car that was driving away in a street full of houses. Why? Who is the danger to society?

Why on earth did 4 cops have to shoot at 1 woman who has not shot yet or shown 100% proof she has a gun? In that situation if they felt they needed to shoot 1 only should have shot and usually to a safe area on her that would cause her to drop the item. Then another can charge her and pin her down as they handcuff her. Why do I, a citizen, have more common sense on that than our law enforcement?

Another factor that probably isn't getting any attention is the concept that when people train for fighting, those people often have an itch to exercise their skills. I've seen this type of behavior with martial artists, and I think this is a reason why martial artists need to be properly trained with inner calm exercises to restrain this urge. I bet our police & military force do not get enough of this awareness training.

Literally ANYTHING can be a weapon in your hand when the officer decides to execute you. A tennis ball that was on the ground next to you suddenly becomes a rock in your hand in the officer's eyes, because part of the training is to first and foremost ID any possible weapon. Unless your hands are completely empty and within perfect sight, a twitchy cop is allowed to shoot first and justify later. It is sick.

Mark Broadhurst Somehow that's not reassuring, especially in the heat of a gun battle. And I'm sorry to say that critical thinking in seconds are not what they used to be anymore. Instead of using a precision blade to carefully and surgically remove a tumor, they just use a butcher's knife for it and call it a day.

Mark Broadhurst How long do you think you would spend in jail if YOU killed a cop by missing a target you were shooting at? If you even survived that is.

Why’d it take Hannah so long to say this poor boy lost his life. She kept saying he was shot until she got to the part about how he got shot and that he died from it. She also sounded oddly upbeat in the same manner and voice she delivers the other stories, even the ppl on tv pretend to care.

Recognize guns? Hannah, you're assuming that they thought she had a gun, as opposed to later saying they thought she had a gun... small distinction, but a distinction. The woman was giving them the run-around for some time, no doubt pissing them off, and I don't doubt the cops mental state came into play when they finally caught up with her. Cops hate it when people run from them, although a sane person really should nowadays.

I originally read in a story about this that the woman was first encountered by a police officer hiding in a closet, but somehow this woman managed to remove herself from the closet and flee the beyond the grasp of the initial officer and perhaps others and leave the scene. How in the hell does that happen?

Jason Saenz... I see what you are saying... if they just let her go, there may be a risk that she harms someone... but also think about the risk of shooting a bunch of bullets into a residential area... Let her go and catch her at a safer time.

You must ALWAYS look at what is beyond where you are aiming. If there is anything there that you don't want to kill, you don't shoot. Simple gun safety rules they teach 12 year olds in hunter safety courses.

4 rules of firearm safety; 1) Keep weapon aimed at a safe (or the safest possible) direction until ready to shoot 2) Keep finger off the trigger until ready to shoot 3) Don't point the weapon at anything you dont intend to destroy 4) Be aware of what is behind (or near) the target that may be hit as well. They forgot #4 which is really sad since thave more fingers on one hand then there are common sense shooting rules.
