I’m so impressed with the way Taylor made boundaries with Whitney and didn’t allow her to mistreat her. Taylor literally stopped her from insulting her bangs but at the same time didn’t take it personally nor became defensive- I legit couldn’t be more impressed and proud. A lot to learn from this girl. PS. Taylor your bangs are 🔥

Whitney needs to find a new sponsor or a healthy meeting...or actually work the program. There are reasons we are anonymous at the level of press TV or social media. This is an example. A bad example. Controlling others, "fixing" them and skipping the steps then 12th stepping everybody with "vast wisdom" is not practicing principles. Sad because she could potentially help someone if she could learn to simply share her experience instead of acting like the worst version of a critical controlling mother.
@idontwantahandlethough
@idontwantahandlethough Жыл бұрын
@@tbbart6463 Or, ya know, any number of other things. "The Program" is not the only solution to addiction and does not work for many people. Honestly, AA/NA (and I assume all the others, but I've never been) push _a lot_ of dangerous psuedo-science. I mean... the _entire basis of the program_ is "God will help you if you surrender yourself to him", which is... not great lol. It definitely works for some people, so that's cool but we should definitely be finding a more rigorous "treatment" for addiction. Honestly, the ideology pushed by AA can be genuinely dangerous to many people. Telling a fragile addict that "you are powerless, you have to put all your trust to God and then he'll help you" is an absurdly risky proposition. It might take some weight off their shoulders... or it might make them feel totally powerless and invalidate allll the hard work they've been doing. It's an incredibly troubling concept that I believe does more harm than good. Also, it's very clearly not true in reality. I get what the point is, but they're just taking a roundabout path to get to the same place. It's entirely unnecessary and potentially harmful. Otherwise, I totally agree with your comment. As an ex addict (something AA pretends doesn't exist), it just really sucks to see people talking about AA and "the program" as if these are real things with any actual evidence behind them. It gives the impression that there's evidence to support "The Program", but.... there isn't really any at all. "Practicing principles" doesn't really mean much when the principles are just some random dead dude's opinion. There _ARE_ actually programs out there with genuine, research-backed methodology, but AA is not and will never be one of them. They're just a religious group.. one that is often dangerously close to being a cult. If any addicts trying to get clean are reading this, AA might be worth a shot if you're religious. The good news is that there are THOUSANDS of different AA/NA/GA/whatever out there, and some of them are wonderful! On the other hand, there are AA groups who will be all judgemental and hostile to drug users because they think _their_ addiction is somehow less bad because it's legal. There's allllll sorts of problems with both the structure of the program and the new culture formed within it. Luckily, there are other options; the important aspects (that AA also has, which is why it does work occasionally) are accountability, honesty, and human connection. By human connection I just mean "spending time with and around other people". Find a group that will help you with those 3 things. If AA doesn't work for you, that's ok because it's all made up! It doesn't work for most people! Just try something else, you'll get there eventually. (I know people like to say it isn't a religious organization and your higher power could totally be a door knob, but that's nonsense. Try to actually do that. Replace every instance of the word 'God' with 'doorknob' in the texts. It stops making any sense at all the second you move beyond surface level)

Dunno if it was the mushroom experience or what, but Taylor just seems so much more confident in herself and what she wants (and able to throw boundaries like a boss, as others have mentioned.) Taylor was much tougher on this one than the last one where she politely just took it, but man I want to grab Whitney and scream “Taylor is cool as shit let her talk or don’t have her on the show!” I’m sure this is just their relationship and banter, but I wish one interview had more of Taylor talking since she’s the guest on the show. I love them both but wow Whitney’s virgoness and sense of having to make sense of everything really came off strong in this episode. I do really believe she has great intentions, but I never really see her relax or be in the moment. EVERYONEEE!! Taylor has a podcast with two others--Delanie Fischer and Kelsey Cook (credit where credit is due) called "Self-Helpless." 🙂 It's like a feel-good, casual, self-help podcast. They put emphasis on being motivational and validating. They get into their own experiences as well so you get to know each of them. Worth giving a listen (y'all are wanting some more Taylor!) though may not be everyone's cup of tea.

I'm so happy Taylor called Whitney out on her bull. This was beautiful. Whitney is over here telling her how she's not living her life to her fullest and how her mother's death has left her with an irrational fear. No, you dummy. Her fear is absolutely warranted and instead of you accepting and respecting that fear, Whitney thinks it would be better if Taylor was more like her. On top of that she thinks that maybe Taylor uses her mom's death to make her feel like she is more special than anyone else because she worries one of her sister's might undergo some other kind of tragedy. Word? The level of narcissism expressed in that thought alone is mind-blowing. I'll give Whitney the benefit of the doubt and blame it on that hat cutting off the circulation to her head. Lord. PS: RUN, TAYLOR! Friends like Whitney destroy everything they touch.

Yeah, Whitney handled that so badly. Bringing up her relationships, blaming Taylor for "not telling" her and then divagating and barely saying sorry... I don't truly understand the dynamics of this friendship/relationship...

As far as I know, yes there is. But I don't think that's exactly the case here. For me it looks like Whitney realised at some point in her life that her brain is acting weird in certain areas and she tried to find out what it is. And got veeery invested in it. Maybe that's the reason she's so invested in explaining everything in a very neurological kind of way. Maybe. But who am I to judge xd

There is such a thing as using your therapist as an opportunity to talk about yourself, not listening with an open mind to their opinions (or even listening at all), and cherry picking your own online "research" to create your own frankenstein theories that justify why other people need to give you more attention.

@@comedychrises Well said. Meanwhile people with real mental disorders are too busy trying not to drown from their real life problems. People like Whitney claim therapists are a scam trying to drain you of money while they spend years in therapists offices booking up their schedules and limiting the available resources to people who need it.

I adore Whitney but I feel like I’m watching her go more and more off her rocker. The way she treats people she sees as above or below her can be embarrassing and nauseating and feels troublesome. I understand people can hold their own but how we treat others says a lot about who we are intrinsically. Of course I’ll continue to support but I’m heavily side eyeing now and there could come a point where I drop off this podcast. Surely there will be somebody in the comments saying “she doesn’t care, you’re 1 of a hundreds of thousands,” but I assure you I’m not the only one who feels this way.

I totally get what you're saying and feel the same. Anymore, I just come for Benton because Whitney hardly let's the guest actually talk and when she does, it's not about themselves, it's about their relationship with her. Her ego is, as she put it, running the show. I think she likes to play off her jibes at Taylor as making her stronger, but she just sounds like she is being rude for comedy and projecting her own insecurities. I want Benton to get his own podcast! He is so quick witted and I love it

As a person with bpd just gotta say, there was definitely a point where my bpd was so bad that everything felt like criticism and made me defensive but that whole time I knew I had bpd and desperately wished I could to therapy. Ironically Whitney’s statement is an example of therapist’s not always being right about everything. A common aspect of bpd is self awareness.

The worst thing ever is when you have the female friend who ends up in a relationship with an abusive man and he completely isolated her from you. I am going through this right now and it is so frightening. I know my friend is suffering but when I reach out to her she just pretend everything‘s OK and keep the conversation short because he tracks all of her phone conversations and texts and he doesn’t want her talking to me.
