you think that's rough try looking asian while in reality being mestizo garifuna mix. I'm not asian AT ALL but I've had people of all races ask me "what" i am. When i was younger u.s. black people would ask if i was blasian because i tanned dark. when i got older i would have more asian guys ask me out than hispanic guys. i get accepted into asian groups faster than hispanic groups. i actually have to explain to my fellow hispanics what my ancestry is. mayan african mix garifuna, north american native, celtic white. my hair texture, lips, forehead, and body shape are native african looking, my eye shape and eyebrows are asian looking monoloid, and my skin and eye color are caucasian looking. my dark skin nephew has the same eyeshape and looks like he is blasian as well instead of mix hispanic. my daughter is north american native looking because of her father but with bright green eyes. when my family went bowling with my older brother who has a more mexican mestizo looking the woman passing out shoes thought we were all adopted and my brother explained yo her that we are blood related family. carribean latin families like mine are diverse looking because of our mixed heritage. we literally look like a bunch of random race people getting together during family reunions. we also vary in height, some of us are short while some of us are very tall. i like it that way.
@Nicolebuenn8 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, I can imagine how annoying it is to have to explain yourself to everyone who assumes you're asian. But on the bright side, It's sounds like you and your family are beautiful! Those are gorgeous features to have!

twistedblktrekie Oh, I agree. Actually I'm done with trying explain to americans and latinos in the US about the latin american ethnic composition. The US is too categorical in placing people into age, racial, national, or religious groups based, so it's difficult to them untie these categories. Just because most of latinos are brown (read mestizos) doesn't mean latinos have that racial background

It's a problem because the Black guy is trying to relate to him only through the African-American experience. He's not trying to engage with the Afro-Latino man's culture.
@Ahavameanslove247 жыл бұрын
I don't think that's a problem, a problem would be if he didn't try to engage with him at all. I think it's obnoxious to insult a persons effort. We all Black at the end of the day. Never in the history of me being Black have I ever not been able to relate to another Black person's experience, regardless of them being Caribbean, continental African, Black British, or Latino. One Black culture is not so far off from another that we would not be able to relate to each other using our own experiences, the idea is ridiculous.

I never really liked the idea of subdividing Latinos as white or black or something else, because most latinos are mixed race, even if they might resemble a white or black person they most likely have other heritages in them. It just seems like a very American thing to do, to generalize people based on color, I refer to Latinos as their ethnicity; cuban, mexican, puetro-rican, dominican, etc.
@1LIFEtoWIN9 жыл бұрын
***** You've completely misinterpreted what I've said I wonder if you really understood what I've been talking about all this time. I don't believe it's inappropriate for latinos to identify as white, I think it's inappropriate for Mixed race latinos to be label as one race, even if they identify as both sides of that heritage. You're really starting sound dense. Also if you're going to keep sitting there putting words in my mouth, I'm done having this discussion, I'm not going to be your _verbal punching bag_ that is symbolic of all the american ideologies you don't like(Some of which I don't like either!) Let me try to put this in another way, I believe individuals should be free to choose what they identified as, and not be placed in one category just because of their skin color, but should be allowed to identify with background. Let me give a more personal example I'm mexican & Spanish descent, I have light skin but I don't wish to be labeled as just Caucasian, because I have non-european heritage, I AM PROUD of my MEXICAN blood & my SPANISH blood, I don't want to dismiss one background over the other. I think a lot of latinos here will feel the same way about that.This is not a common American way of thinking, since many mixed race celebrities and famous people tend to be recognize by whatever skin color they have America refuses to acknowledge whatever other racial heritages they have. Hopefully you understand what I'm tryng to say, again remember , I am NOT _THE United States of America_, but I am _A American_ The One Drop Rule was a means of the United States to maintain segregation between White & Black-Americans, it labeled white-Americans with partial black ancestry as black. Personally I'd define a black&white person as black&white unless they have a specified prefance to being labeled on being one or the other, I'll recognize that then. Now I'd like to know how in the world are you getting the idea that I support the One Drop Rule?

@1LIFEtoWIN9 жыл бұрын
spj I never liked the term anglo-american referring to linguistics since the world anglo refers to the Anglo-Saxons, the ethnic people that lived in England. It also like when Americans say all have to do to be Hispanic is speak Spanish but the term Hispanic refers to the country Hispania which was Old Spain. But yes you're right Latino is not a race. Looking through my comments I don't see myself referring to Latino as a race but if I did I apologize.

@Idanimowellness8 жыл бұрын
+iGod yeah I get that. It's easier to identify with someone that's the same culture as you, regardless of race. Here in America, me and a white person may identify with each other more than me and a black Latino because we're both American, as oppose to me identifying with someone who's a black Latino because we're both black but have two different cultures. Gotcha. Think I phrased that horribly but that's ok lol
@michellebernal56688 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Thank you for understanding. I wish many more Americans understood this simple fact. It's about culture and not race. A black Dominican and a black American are the same race, but the Dominican is going to familiarize more with Dominican food and bachata music vs. soul food and rhythm and blues music. Same race, different nationalities which means different ethnicities and different cultures.

Ok, let me show you what countries are more diverse in terms of ethnic origin of their presidents, the United States, or countries of Latin America: 1) Native American descendant: In LA: Benito Juárez (México), Evo Morales (Bolivia), Alejandro Toledo (Perú), and more. In USA: no one. 2) Black or African descendant: In LA: Juan José Nieto (Colombia), David Granger (Guyana), Johan Kraag (Surinam), Arthur Robinson (Trinidad and Tobago), Gaston Browne (Antigua and Barbuda), Freundel Stuart (Barbados), and more. In USA: Barack Obama (only by his father’s familly). 3) Asian descendant: In LA: Alberto Fujimori (Perú), Arthur Chung (Guyana), Cheddi Jagan (Guyana) In USA: no one. 4) Arab descendant: In LA: Carlos Menem (Argentina). In USA: no one. 5) Jewish desendant: In LA: Janet Rosenberg (Guyana). In USA: no one. 6) Spanish descendant: In LA: Sebastian Piñera (Chile), Fernando de la Rua (Argentina), Alan Garcia (Perú), Alvaro Uribe (Colombia) Rafael Correa (Ecuador), Enrique Peña Nieto (Mexico), and more. Un USA: no one. 7) Portuguese descendant: In LA: Lula Da Silva (Brazil), Epitasio Pessoa (Brazil), Getulio Vargas (Brazil), and more. In USA: no one 8) Italian descendant: In LA: Mauricio Macri (Argentina), Jorge Alessandri (Chile), Julio Sanguinetti (Uruguay), Ranieri Mazzilli (Brazil), Jaime Lusinchi (Venzuela), and more. In USA: no one 9) German descendant: In LA: Ernesto Geisel (Brazil), Vicente Fox (Mexico), Nestor Kirchner (Argentina), Eduardo Frei (Chile) In USA: Dwight D. Eisenhower, possibly more. 10) French descendant: In LA: Michelle Bachelet (Chile), Eduardo Duhalde (Argentina). In USA: no one. 11) British and Irish descendant: In LA: Duncan Stewart, (Uruguay), Roberto Levingstone (Argentina), Patricio Aylwin (Chile), Bernardo O’Higgins (Chile), and more. In USA: All the presidents of USA, including Barack Obama (his mother’s family), probably the only exeption is Martin van Buren from Netherland. 12) Other european desendants in LA: Juscelino Kubitschek (Brazil), from Czech Republic Alfonso López Michelsen (Colombia), probably from Denmark. Nestor Kirchner (Argentina), from Croatia by his maternal family Johan Ferrier (Surinam), from Netherland In conclusion, you are wrong, Latin America have presidents of many ethnic origins, is true what the majority is from European descendants, but not all, and even so, they are of different European origins, in USA by the other side, except for one or two, all are of British descendants, no one Asian, or Native American, or Arab, just British, and the only Black is just by his father family, shameful in a country that call themselves a multiethnic country.

Junior Pivaral That's a damn lie!!! With all of that back and brown beef going on out there, and especially in southern Cali!!! I bet your entire hood would beat your ass if you fucked with an African-American or even an Afro Latino.
@juniorcontreras907 жыл бұрын
I live in the heart of east LA its not bad. I got black friends and afro latino friends we get along just fine wtf. Idk about NY but you guys are probably stuck living in the 90s shit bc there is no real beef unless you're gang related saying fuck latinos or fuck blacks. When i lived in. You do know nedia focus on the bad more than good right? Even if its the tiniest bit, its what they want you to see. Believe me i live in the hood and we all love muthafucken tacos, burritos and pussy. If i fuck with anybody is not bc theyre black its bc they did something to me personally idc if you are my race latino, white, black, asian, etc i got a variety of friends and we get along fine... you are some shit bro its that mentality of yours that causes people to divide and build hatred against not just one another but a whole race that is not yours.
@MADNEWYORKER9147 жыл бұрын
Junior Pivaral my mentality??? Nah homeboy, you got it twisted, a lot of you Mexicans have the problem!!! It's cool that you have black friends, but you know damn well there is a green light on blacks in southern cali!!! Over here on the east coast, there is no beef between blacks and hispanics. But you have some racist ones that stay quiet unless they're around a lot of their people!!! But in general, there's is no real problem. Tje ones with the biggest problem over are Dominicans. There culture has a serious racist issue when it comes.to color. But we dont2pay them no mind at all. But who in the hell is "nedia"???

I thought this was kinda interesting till I got to the comments and saw a few folks criticizing Black Americans. Ok, lemme clear this up for ya. Being African/Black Latino is pretty much the same as being African/Black, (input nationality here.) Y'all are aware that all our Black asses got here the same way? That due to colonization and slavery some of us are mixed, ranging from a noticeable to unnoticeable amount, that with the culture of our African ancestors these nationalities we put after our African/Black are deeply if not completely rooted in the culture our African people have enriched these countries with. I find it so wack to play Black people against each other. Speaking as a African born in America, I don't see nationality, I see ethnicity/race, so if you're African/Black then I'm going to see you as one of my people. If you're latino or Caribbean or European nationality, then that's just dope and we've got something to learn from each other beyond just both being part of the African diaspore.
@mangastar2347 жыл бұрын
er lo she's saying that they're all the same race so some comments are dumb. Essentially the jokes are poking fun of themselves as much as AAs since they have the same genetic make up because they have the same origin.
@Ahavameanslove247 жыл бұрын
mangastar234 Yes, exactly. Never have I met a African/Black person of any nationality who I can't relate with as a member of our diaspore. The guy in this video just looks like a total idiot when it came to him talking to the other Black guy, like we don't all face some form of oppression and struggle as Black folks in the country's we were born in.
@jesusgonzalez67157 жыл бұрын
Ahavameanslove24 I think there are some Afro-Latin@s whose ancestors got to their current place of residence (mostly) of their own free will. For example Eastern Nicaragua has some black folks whose ancestors were runaway slaves, apparently some of them shipwrecked. And Costa Rica has a lot of Afro-Latin@s whose ancestors came as free contract workers for the railroads and banana plantations - incidentally some Asian - Latino communities have similar origins

As an Afro-Latino (half Dominican actually becuase of my Dad), I can relate. I remeberwhen I was at work, and I was speaking to a lady in Spanish because she spoke to me in Spanish. After I finihsed with her, she then said 'Wow, you speak really good Spanish" (sadly, I'm not fluent, and many others have said this). I then told her I was half dominican. After that, she then said "I thought you were African". This happens almost all the time when I'm at work. I have had many people who couldn't really speak English very well, and once they've seen me, they would try to speak to me in English. I've even had Hispanic customers at my job who would take one look at me and either they would speak or try to speak to me in English or they would take one look at me and automatically think that I woudn't know any Spanish. Everyone that I work with is Hispanic or Latino (except for like one or two). I remember when I was at my register and one of my hispanic co workers were at the register adjacent to me. There were a few Hispanic people who would ask if I spoke Spanish or they would go to the register on the right (co worker). However, there are manty who would speak to me in Spanish no matter how I look. I also remember being at a Jamaican restaurant, and a Jamaican lady recognized me because of where I worked. She then asked me if I was hispanic (becuase the majority of the people working where I am are Hispanic). I then said "I'm half Dominican", and before I could say that I was also Jamaican and St. Thomian, she said "No wonder they hired you". The people at my job didn't even know I was hald Dominican until I told them one day. Many people forget or don't know that Hispanic and Latino isn't a race. We all come in different colors and backgrounds.

I think what causes confusion the usage of black, in the U.S. is used in direct reference to the ethnic group and race which is two different things. To most no Americans the usage of black is synonymous with African Americans for some od reason. So even when you call a person who is a Latino which is only an Ethnic group by the way, they feel like you're calling them African American rather than their nationality. My grandmother is black colombiana and I have friends from the PR who were sick of being called black, because they felt that it took away their national Identity when people called them black., when in actually the people who said that are correct for the most part. I think we have to get away from just only thinking that black people only exist in North America and Africa. There are more black people in Latin America than in Anglo America. Also there are black people in the Pacific too. I blame our schools for this ignorance. You can be black and Latino, Black referring to you racial make-up and Latino to the ethnic group or original nationality.
