I have this bike and I have many others and I actually prefer this over my much larger cc bikes for commuting. It’s engaging in the way it needs your inputs to be perfect to get the best out of it. It is amazing in slow moving traffic. I love that it is so humble that it goes completely unnoticed. I feel the price I paid for it and the ongoing costs are so cheap that it’s the best value bike I’ve ever purchased. For some reason it makes me feel good when riding it. I have to agree with all your points. But it’s charm overcomes all that, for me. It’s a keeper. I’ll have to wash it more often to keep that rust off.

The only downside is that when I filter to the front of a queue there's not enough power to make sure I'm far ahead of the cars like I can be on the 650

The eco light can be switched off....... no rev counter, no problem; seem pointless to me on commuter vehicles..... Low power, but adequate for commuting, and far from the slowest eighth litre bike I've ridden (in 60 years, more than 600,000 km on motorcycles in more than a dozen countries.... without an off on the road.); more power would result in higher fuel consumption. I have had a CB125F for a month now, and done 1,500 km /930 miles on it, and find it handles tight windy tar-seal and gravel roads with aplomb. Not an intercity express, it still acquits itself ok with an easy 80 - 90 km/hr / 50-55 available on a highway. I can ride all day at that speed...... get tired quickly at higher speeds. I'll put some Givi panniers on mine and go touring on this cheapie without unnecessary frills.

@@Erii_SE This bike is designed in India, where folks are on average taller than in SE Asia, the source of many small motorcycles. I am only about 173 cm, with quite short legs, so it is fine for me. Feels a bit more roomy than the Thailand designed bikes I have ridden. I would not want the seat to be much higher. I have seen reviews by riders who are over 6 feet tall, most of whom seemed OK with it. One very leggy South Asian individual did find it a little cramped for his legs, but he could live with it. You cannot really know how it is for you until you throw a leg over it.

I've got the exact same bike in that colour, agree with pretty much all opinions here especially the indicators at night being too bright although eco light can be turned off in seconds just by holding down both buttons and select off and mines done the same miles through every weather condition we could get in the UK and its in showroom condition, wash it most weekends and spray bike protector over it after, comes up a treat

Yup, switched mine off as now getting dark eves and will be taking electrical tape to the front indi's in the next couple of days too. Other than that, I love mine, 150+mpg before my first big bike next year.

I bought the previous model just as this version came out. I chose it over the one new one at the time because they had a zero percentage interest offer and I honestly thought it look better made. I was not fussed about having a digital screen, I preferred the analog dials. But I did what you did and chucked the naff tyres for continentals almost straight away.

@@Erii_SE I have this bike and for me being 1.68cm is very comfortable, but for my boyfriend who is 1.95 it’s quite difficult to ride comfortably. So I don’t think it’s the best choice but you can always do a test drive to see for yourself .

We had one in our family for a year last year and I put a good few miles on it. For it’s price it was brilliant but it did need a good dose of FS365 to stop the shiny bits rust spotting. A rattle can of high temp paint on the exhaust was also employed 😬. At 16st you’ll get a little better ride out of it with two notches up on that rear preload. They get round the non use of ABS by having linked brakes but it is weirdly off the rear pedal only. Overall a bike to be admired for its stunning MPG. At 18.5st 😮 I was amazed how comfy the suspension and seat was.

I'm 16st and upped the preload by 1 notch and it's still awful. May have to go for 2 notches then, but the front has no damping at all as Mr Fish says. It just dives to the max even under hard braking...not good suspension imo. The rear tyre is way too skinny too and unstable during spirited turns in the wet. Maybe the bike isn't aimed at racers but a wider rear would stop the rear slipping out. Those fixed pegs are dangerous also. Maybe not for your average learner but leaning into turns you can touch them down on the road and it's not acceptable and I am only a learner but a very seasoned road user.

If you clean the rust off the forks, and then smear a bit of grease over them, that should help to keep the rust away. Unfortunately, you can't do that with the exhaust.

The sound of the engine is good, does not make much noise. Noise engines should get them out of traffic. This is the most economical model of motorcycle that exists. Don't complain too much about a charger for your mobile phone.

I general disagree with all that EXCEPT of course for the rust and the rear brake. I have it 1 year now and i dont cear about the revs indicator or the green eco light or the flash lights. Also the front suspension maybe is a little soft but it helps in holes you see the last second as you driving

I agree with all the points you made. Mine has done over 10,000 miles in the last year and probably sounds better now than it did when it was new as the engine is run in. I have found Lucas synthetic oil much better than the castrol stuff they put in it, especially on longer trips when the engine gets hotter, Mucoff HCB1 seems to have helped to slow down some of the corrosion. mpg has been worse in cold weather. For a bike costing 3K it has been ok apart from the initial head gasket leak, replaced under warranty!

i also was a tad surprised just how much the mpg drops in cold weather, i expected a little, but not as much as i got. it's a good job it's so frugal to start with eh!! :)

@@Bob-ts2tu Yes I did some mpg tests last year measuring actual consumption vs the figure given on the dash, it was roughly 90% of the claimed amount on the dash. When we had a brief spell of hot weather last summer over 25 degrees C the dash registered 165 mpg but in the cold weather it got down to 129 mpg, it has climbed a bit recently to nearer 140 mpg. I am quite tall 6ft 2in and not light either! So I tend to find the head winds down the coast sap the petrol. Its also worth commenting that it runs better on E5, apparently some of the petrol, Esso I think is ethanol free even though it says E5 on the pump.....so they claim. Like you say it would be difficult to beat the mpg even at the lower figure. I am guessing that the offset cylinder has increased the low end torque to a degree compared to older models but due to the vibration problems associated with an offset cylinder (so the engineers say), they had to sacrifice the higher revs, this may be why it doesn't get to higher speeds. The simple plug wire tachometer that I fitted shows that max torque in 5th is about 48 mph and in 4th is at 40mph (6000rpm being max torque) but it seems to reach the upper limits at about 62mph in 5th of around 7500 rpm which is max power according to Honda. Sorry about the ramble got a bit carried away!

@@copernicusvanstruselclit9508 that wasn't me, it was David, but i suppose at a guess if there is a noticable drop in power that would point to it as a possible cause, as would maybe a little smoke or oil escaping. If you aint happy with the performance and it's under warranty i'm sure they will take a look and advise for free.

Most forks will get rusted if not properly taking care off, what I do is so put a light coat of Shock oil on the forks, just rub some on your hands and then rub the shiny portion with your hands and let it there( yeah sounds dirty😅) but it works. I do this on my Honda PCX125 and other cheap 125's and same as you I just ride them on all type of weather and they rarely take a wash, so far after 30k plus of km never had any issu with Rust.

Thats a surprising amount of corrosion on a Honda. My 'chinese' Zontes G1 has ridden through some torrid weather over the past year (4000 miles), lives outside too yet has barely any visible signs of corrosion. Like you I dont wash my bikes much - used to overwash my mountain bikes and would always have bearings, bottom brackets, fork seals, brakes etc going. Learned my lesson.

You would expect a vehicle’s ’bright work’ to last a lot longer than a year on a ‘quality bike’ from a manufacturer such as Honda. It is not as though it’s a cheap piece of Chinesium is it? Shocking for a year old bike!

Good points, but you sound like you made the review with your helmet on. I still think CB125F is the best value motorbike in the world. Best fuel economy, decent speed for road use, and Honda engine in 4-stroke with EFI. Shame about the rust, maybe needs diligent carnauba waxing? True about the styling, the headlights look like the head of an angry wasp, and I hate the futuristic streamlined look which is out of place, and would prefer a more Super Cub or Royal Enfield style on these economy transports. I would also prefer a mono-shock rear suspension for stability to prevent asymmetric rear suspension wobbles, which could cause a 'tank slapper' in theory like the Harley Dyna videos show. Not likely in CB125F speeds and weights, but after watching suspension vids, it seems that the monoshock is overall the safest suspension setup for dynamic driving. But for CB125F dual shocks is fine. Light and relatively slow bike.

These modern low capacity engine bikes electrics & small batteries ,have more work to do these days . They have to power the fuel injection systems ,& are pretty much on their limits just keeping the battery charged to run the bike . They are not meant to have all kinds of extra gadgets to keep charged . Admitted these new 125 commuter Hondas are not up to the build quality of the old 40 odd year old CG 125 Hondas ,but they are dirt cheap & pay for themselves in fuel & running economy . I wouldn’t worry too much about a bit of rust here & there . The only time a bike should look in showroom condition ,is when it’s in a showroom ,they are made to get you from A to B . As long as they are mechanically sound & safe ,they will do the job . I would just tart it up best you can ,give it a bit of a clean ,a service & treat it to some new Cheng Fung rubber on its rims & carry on getting yer moneys worth out of it . 👍

You know , you can turn the ECO light off in the settings mode of the bike, saves you having to put a tape over it 😁. Agree with you on the slowness of the bike, compared to other 125s . For the chrome - use Autosol - that with get rid of the marks on the exhaust and chrome.

Honda sells this model in India named SP125. These sell in millions here because of the fuel efficiency, reliability and simplicity it offers. But, we don't see this much rusting on them.

what's the mpg on your bike? On mine in city riding it is around 160-170 mpg. However I do ride it sometimes on motorways or dual carriageways and at max speed, which is around 60-62 mph indeed, the fuel economy drops to around 75 mpg, which gives a combined fuel economy for me of around 133 mpg.

i have had about 140mpg (calculated) across all terrains/riding styles over 5000 miles riding using total miles/total fuel, but i dont red-line it and rarely go over 55. the on-board MPG figure is so inaccurate it can be totally ignored. between fill-ups it's reported figures of 162mpg when i actually got 123mpg, and also 161mpg when i actually achieved 178mpg, quite a swing, but 133mpg true average is still pretty good, and it's a big improvement from the older model cb125f's. I have been riding my first bike which is 22 plate but otherwise same as this and I love the look, and I get 175mpg! Averaged over my first 800 miles. Are the conti tyres genuinely that much better? I have the stock ones. Mines on 3000 miles and much less rust as I don’t use in rain

The option of a 125 for a commuter/workhorse is an interesting one for someone with a full licence. I would be tempted to cross-shop with either a scooter or something like a Royal Enfield Hunter 350, you can have either more convenience or more power for similar money!

A 250 maybe better for higher speed work. My 125 averages 68ish on the M4 during my commutes and cant pull up any significant hills at that speed. Tops out at 75 on the rev limiter.

So basically, buy a supercub! Would be interesting to see how the supercub finish is holding up being as it's older than the CB. I've been watching 'Some guy rides' on youtube and he rode a CT125 across the Trans America Trail - compulsive viewing. If the CT125 was available in the UK i'd be seriously interested in it - basically an off-road supercub.

Dunno about 16/17 year olds and this. Here in Germany they won't be happy, since the bike has just enough power to end in the significantly higher insurance class above 10hp for young hotspurs but surely not enough to keep upmwith others' CB125Rs & KTMs. Its more of a "world bike", made for less wealthy adults gasing it up with an eyedrop, due to financial constraints. I look forward to traveling on mine later, when I am retired. Until then it is my fair weather commuter since my old Innova should rust cheaper.

Rest you can expect, but the forks should not rust so quickly. Spacers on top of the fork springs and heavier weight oil is the way to go for 16st

I hugely disagree with you. I have the same bike, commute daily in all weather and have done 6000 miles. My bike has zero corrosion. I maintain it appropriately but not festidiously. Yes, it's not fast and hills are slow but it's a 125, what do you expect. Compared to other brands of bike parked at work being used in similar conditions, it is holding up much better. The MPG is incredible, I average just over 120mpg on mainly A roads with several large and long hills. Anyone looking for a bike for this sort of purpose, there is no better machine.

@@teggyegg yes to acf50 but only applyed once in autumn. The MPG readout hovers around 120 for my commute. I did work it out manually for a tankful a while ago and the readout was roughly accurate. On flatter routes, the mpg can be considerably higher.

Is this the one you came off on the ice? The bike I'd like for commuting, if I did it and they were still available, would be a Suzuki VanVan 200. I'd like one for knocking around the lanes here in northern Thailand. You can still get them here. If a Super Cub is quicker than this 125, it must be slow.

Rub the rusty bits with a ball of wet aluminium foil and paint over with kerrust. It'll turn the rust into black dots and rust wont come back.

I think the issue with the looks is it looks every low cost Chinese 125

Its Sad that in Just a few years you Wont be able to buy a petrol 125cc I had a Yamaha YBR 125cc They are just so Cheap to Run. and will get you to work & Back Day in Day out in these days of high Fuel Costs Spray it with some anti Corrosion Potion before winter They are japanese Brands Built in China So Build quality is not up to Goldwing Standards

Odd that the old model had flappy foot pegs, good indicators, no economy light and would climb to 70 seems you would have preferred that model

To be fair to the bike you admit you ride it in crap weather when you don't want to spoil your other bikes. Having said that the corrosion is shocking,my 05 600 Bandit has 64,000 miles up and has been ridden through every winter in the ten years I've owned it and has less corrosion than that. ACF50 is the stuff to use,not cheap but a can lasts me for 3 years easily,just wipe it on or use a paintbrush. Basically that's a third world bike sold over here, you'll see thousands of those in Asia where they don't rust, not much goes over 50 mph.........and it probably costs half as much as well. I don't know where their made now but one of the recent CB125 models was made in China. Honda do a great little bike called the XRM125,a hybrid thing like step-thru crossed with a trail bike,i think they're only sold in the Philippines, take a look on Google,those things are a real blast.

Side stand and centre stand gets a fresh coating of paint then wrapped in black electrical tape as they are high iron content parts as have got to be to support the bike this is a cheap fix to stop them inevitably perishing

I have the older 2020 model with the two needle clocks. Much better than all that digital rubbish. The older model is faster on acceleration and basically bullet proof. Its all about the riding experience for me, i don't want anti lock this, digital that, keyless this, auto stop start that. No! I bought it for the real feel riding. where your riding skills are needed, and not everything is done for you. That model you own is basically a little computer on wheels. I've got 2 classic bikes amongst my collection, which are proper motorcycles. Technology is going to ruin motorcycling just like it has cars. I drive an old MX5 convertible and avoid modern computers.

52, 6'2" full license: "Tough decission". Ergonomics are pretty decent for us; I like the CB's more than an Enfield Classic's. But have a talk with your insurance and let THEM(!) map out what you 'll want to buy when. Ask them for the big picture, including bigger bikes and becoming older. Your national pricing system might vary from mine. To broke urban me something costing hundreds per year would look out of reach and make 50ccms more attractive. My next step was a 17hp 250 and I recall 98hp costing less than a young teen's 125. Over here scooters under 10hp would be much cheaper to insure than the CB F. If your friends ride 15hp 125ccms, think hard. You might live longer by being unable to keep up with your friends on the CB F. OTOH you 'll be pretty much on your own (and missing fun to be had). I love mine, but I'm a stubborn old fart, commuting through an over-speedlimited city, trying to get along on a 25 year old gasoline budget. My Innova already survived me for 62Kkm and convinced me of bread & butter Hondas. If I believed in having money to burn, I 'd get a more powerful bike. Disclaimer: I am no way trying to convince you to spend money you don't have, on crap you don't need, to impress people you don't like. But you didn't tell what you want.

That amount rust after one yeah that’s ridiculous I’ve got a Yamaha MT 125 that i use to go to work and back i’ve not got a spot rust on it Not taking my expensive motorbike To work not riski it geting stolen My suspension don’t really bottom out I’m about 16 Stone so pretty heavy for it lol Look like they’re cheap out there m8 No rev counter that’s not good. How someone that just got a CBT And it’s first time thay got on the bike and they should’ve definitely put on flip up foot peg’s Think you need to put some acf 50 on that m8

I obliterated the engine on this model in 3 months. It’s smooth but the gear box is a shit box. Crunchy like cereal that’s not been left in milk for long enough. It doesn’t vibe very much. Which is good. I the bought a cbf125 and it lasted me 2 years. It definitely vibrated more but it was faster. How do you make a newer bike so much slower. Both bikes were rust buckets. Only Japanese in name. Not in build quality at all. Now I have a v strom and can’t believe the amount of spent on these buckets of bolts.

Honda have been eclipsed by so many brands now. Their bikes at so dull. I use CB500X for commuting and it is what it is. Cheap to run, did the job.... dull!

I think Honda's quality must have degraded, I have the 2018 version before all of the fancy screens and stuff. Mine hasn't rusted up almost at all, I don't know how the previous owners (there's been 5) kept it but it's in very good condition. It has fold able foot pegs aswell. I will say though, the back brake is absolutely useless as you said.

mine is 2 years old, has been regularly & properly cleaned with vulnerable parts covered with acf50, spray grease or sillicone, result no rust anywhere lol. We all want the best quality at the best price but the fact is that you can't have both. i think it's made in italy, but don't pay too much attention to the location as it's all done on production lines these days anyway, with the manufacturer still responsible for the QC. I do conceed that some parts could be of better quality, but couldn't it always !!. GL

I can see where you are coming from on most of your points, but you have lot's of experience of different bikes, it sounds like most are a lot more expensive where you are going to see big improvements, but for myself with little experience, i just think it's really great for the price, and just know it's not perfect, but it's simplicity is it's strength, & the positives far outweigh what are more grumbles than issues IMHO. mine's 2 years old and I've done about 5000 miles since last august, but not much in bad weather, but i make sure it's been cleaned well, use acf50 on bit's likely to rust, and i haven't got a spot of rust anywhere. i've averaged 140mpg for that distance, (properly calculated, ignore the onboard display figure as it's useless) it starts 1st time every time, is pretty comfy, no mechanical issues, and ideal for my needs with what's likely to be a great residual value if/when i sell. btw you can turn the eco light off in the menu & i will look forward to the love it vid. :)

you need to do some googling m8, there's a lot of chinese model's cheaper, but if you look at the other japanese 125's like suzuki or yamaha they are a lot more expensive for what doesn't seem like a great deal more speed, performance or quality (if any) with worse mpg. I chose a honda because of reputation and easily saleability later, and have'nt had any reason to think i'm wrong. GL

Ive got the 2018 version of th8s and the footpeg has a hinge. I cannot for the life of me think why they would change this. Loving the bike anyway. I think your model is slightly higher in the seat, which for me, at 6ft 3 would've been the better option had it been in my budget.
