That issue with strap failure I can relate to, at least with the cheapest casios. I've had two separate F91W-1's fail on me, latest one a year ago. But then again it's not a G-shock and I work out in the field getting it tangled in branches, scratching the screen against asphalt or walls/ladders/etc, so it's a bit understandable that it'd break. Nowadays I use a GW-9400-1B rangeman and it has held up so well, even the resin straps! I'll keep you posted about that, tho. Last thing you mentioned about the Casio entusiasts being generally upbeat about the brand is absolutely true! To youtubers and commenters alike, the comparatively humble Casio watches bring joy to even the "big bucks" reviewers that handle 100k+ automatic watches on the daily. That speaks volumes about Casio.

I find that some of the negative display watches are easier to read than others..for example, the negative display version of the G Shock GD-350 is as easy for me to read as any of my positive-display Casios, but the negative display GX-56 is very hard to read at times..I own and like both, but as far as legibility is concerned, they’re very different. By the way, I now have a 25-watch collection that includes a goodly number of G Shocks and “regular” Casios, and I have to include myself in the Casio fan group-they’re great when it comes to sheer value for money!!

Hi Greg, You're absolutely right! There are some really beautiful colored watches, if they only had a positive display!! I would buy so many more casio g-shock!!!! One thing I really hate about casio watches,is the fact that, me living in Europe, can't change the day and month to our way of reading , first day and then the month!

Thanks Greg, most people are nice people. It is the unfriendly ones that get a lot of attention, and that's too bad. I own just a few (8) Casio's, but I like them a lot. I have two things I don't like that much. 1. The odd watchband constructions. 2. The very, very, small layout of the functions on the dial. I am getting a little older and it gets harder to read them. Negatives I wouldn't buy in the first place. Thanks again nice person from the mountain area! Greetings from the Netherlands!

I did a negative to positive display mod on my MTG-M900 with the black case. It requires a lot of patience and very precise work. Extremely easy to mess up and break your screen. The MTG-M900 is my favourite G Shock. Great video Greg!

Another bad thing at gshock is the fact that the crystal scratches under the casing. I have 5 gshock watches and at all of them happened this. At first is seems like dust, but I nipple down the casing and I clean very well. But.. surprise, there are scratches. I thought that the models are bad form my home, Bucharest, but my rangeman is from Vienna. Also I didn't used them in very hard conditions for long time, just normal conditions under lower to moderate stress and time for some of them. I cannot upload pictures to see, but I think that you know what it is about. Thank you, Greg and continue like that!

Interestingly. While most of these manuals are not needed for simpler models of Casio and g-shock in particular, for some G-Shocks they are very important to have because some functions cannot be guessed intuitively.

I did the negative to positive LCD mod myself and I'm super happy with the result. There are a few things that can go wrong (DON'T LOSE ANY TINY SPRINGS) but I think it's well within your capabilities and worth a try on a less expensive model.

Remove the bezel and use a hobby knife to cut away the bottom part under the adjust button (and actually all of the buttons) ---- makes it 1000x easier to press .... if you don't believe me just take a look at the button recess on your GShock and you will see they literally have a pattern already there to guide you LOL

Greg your candid and fun. I've had a few Casio watches and that Protrek 5571 just purchased is fabulous! Did EYE mention how the LED is a special UV LED and when activated, the already great lume contrasts with vibrant, blue across the Arabic numerals and throwing RE ADD ABLE light across the LCD display. The older Casio EYE have is a basic beater, 3403 witch has been worn every day for six years now? The battery is still going strong and the condition is impeccable! It still looks brand new; the crystal is scratch-free and the case even the strap once cleaned, has no apparent color fading or wear characteristics. The 5571 is pretty intuitive but that manual does help for little used things that might come in handy but the manuals CAN bee somewhat confusing. EYE am so glad the strap is a more supple silicone strap on the 5571 as the 3403 and many others are knot as comfortable and have that customized strap config. making it necessary to get adapters etc. to get a different strap. I'm considering getting the Rangeman but the strap is ONE RE A SUN for getting the 5571 first bee cause it has a standard lug 20mm width and CAN bee easily traded out to a sail cloth or NATO - whatever!

Great video as always. After a hiatus of about 15 years without buying any watches, Casio made me do it again. Got 6 over the last 6 months, being 4 Casios. I had them as a young one way back when, then I decided I didn't like LCDs. Long story short, after 30 years, half my modest collection are LCDs. Wondering, would you do some purely analogue Casios? Some nice cheap ones out there, that for the most part hit all their indices and should last as long as the digitals. Also, Edifice has been putting out some beautiful non chronograph models. Maybe they'd strike your fancy? To answer your question, what I love about them is that they overdeliver. Even the cheapest Casio will really give you more than what you expect. What I dislike about Casio is based on where I live, Brazil. Here they cost roughly double what they cost in the US (one of the watches I bought recently was the G Shock DW5600, a 30 year one-day-I'll-buy watch and I paid US$70-ish and that was not too bad; a Casio Duro can be had for like 150 dollars) and, though you complain of the US market, here our selection of available models is so very limited compared to what you have available there. Sorry for the long winded comment. By the way, your Portuguese was not half bad!

Very good video, and good topic, Casio have so many advantages, but I have a problem that never solved by them. The material of all Casio transparent-skeleton series ( band and case) will turn yellowish color in matter of 1-2 years, sadly permanently They are great models, specially for summer and holidays, but this problem stopped me to purchase them, recently Casio released new transparent models, from basic F-91W, to higher end models, But all of them have this yellowish problem in their materials....

I always prefered analog watches and created my collection without ever considering a Casio. Then one day I made the unfortunate mistake of purchasing a Casio SGW-100B Digital Compass watch to wear on motorcycle trips, thinking it would come in handy to have a waterproof watch with a compass function. This watch was so reliable and comfortable that I foolishly started looking at other Casio watches. They have started multiplying in my collection, and my must have list keeps growing. I am especially hooked on their Digital-Analog watches like the GA-2100 series. I am going to need a bigger watch box.

If Casio resin watches are stored properly and regularly treated with conditioners l, they will last decades. Sadly G-Shock care instructions found online are mostly wrong. Even Wiki-How and other respectable sites give grossly wrong ideas to maintain these watches.
@GoodTimekeeper

I struggle to find a balance. I have to admit that, for the most part, Casio watches are inexpensive, made-to-be-used watches and are not intended to be collectibles which will be individually valuable for generations. They are the Toyota Corollas or Camrys of the watch world. They are not meant to be stored. They are meant to be driven into the ground.
