04:40 It's basically called the Greenhouse effect, that's why you can't just build an all-glass house, there has to be some form of ventilation. This is also true with slab roofing since the slab will absorb all that heat from the sun during day and emit it inside during the night. You can't just build slab roofing or glass house just because you like it, you need to mind the side effect and how to counter it. One way to counter heat is to put tall trees around the house, if you can and don't mind cleaning dead leaves on your gutter every now and then. You can also look into evaporative cooling system, but requires large window openings for air movement. For slab, there has to be heat reflective insulation under the slab with ample moving air layer in between. You can also try one-way mirror film on sides directly hit by the sun.

Agreed. I don't know a lot about houses, but the first thing I thought when I first saw the skypod is how hot it would be with the all-glass construction (not to mention the amount of work needed to keep it clean). I'm not trying to start any arguments here, but I think it's silly to build a house like this on a very tropical country like ours. And this problem is only going to get worse over time because of global warming. Remember when mornings were still cool until around lunch time? That was the case almost 20 years ago. It's not too farfetched for there to be a time when the sun is already scorching hot at 6 or 7am. The house definitely looks great though (arguably the best looking house I've seen in the country).

@@TerencePonce They live high up in Busay, Cebu, which is a mountainous area that has colder winds, stronger breezes, lots of greenery, and is less densely packed. The heat is mostly felt during summer but is no problem during the wet season. Anybody would be crazy to build a house like this in a subdivision within Metro Manila but it's doable in a place like Busay with a few tweaks that he mentioned in this video.

The tile gaps can indeed be annoying, but I just learned to accept that not everything can or will be perfect. Even if you're able to perfect 99.9% of your tiles, that 1 slab that's slightly uneven will just stick in your mind, discounting the perfection of the 99.9%. And even if you do get the tiles perfect, you will eventually find something to get annoyed about like the slightly protruding hinge, or not perfectly set corners, etc. So don't sweat the little things. :) You already have a home that's more beautiful than most of the people you will ever meet. :)

Beautiful house, there will always be regrets. I built modernist house in the UK 17 years ago. I had a solar control glass on the facades that took in the orientation of the sun, I also had electromagnetic glass to the front facades for privacy. The window frames were hugely expensive, Schuco frames. Structurally bonded glass to frames for seamless look. Great job with the house , I may build a house in the Philippines one day, so great to see design ideas and cues. God bless 🙏

Im not an architect nor a designer by profession but i learnt a lot while we are building our house. Functionality and practicality must comes first before design. Maliit lang bahay nmin at ako lang nagdesign by grabbing inspiration online.😅 Since nanggaling ako sa bahay n malaki i realized gaano sya kahirap linisin kaya we decided to make it small and simple. Nilakihan n lng nmin bintana with screen para pasok p din hangin since masarap hangin sa bukid. 😊 Marami din nabago as the construction goes on specially the budget 🤣...but for me whatever your house is made of, what matters most is you can still make it a home. 😘

no offense meant. just my observation. a lot of house designers focus on aesthetics instead of functionality (specially with regard to green planning - like wall to floor glass walls. initially, it looks "elegant" but it acts like a magnifying glass. it intensifies the heat from the sun. or when you have neighbors nearby, the first thing homeowners do is cover the glass walls or windows with blinds or curtains. the blinds/curtains block the view, air, and light.)

Put some planter trellis with wheels in front of the sun exposed window walls. Maybe use white bougainvillea background with contrasting colors of red and maybe peach. This could be rolled out of the way around noon. You may need to have these custom made to function well, or maybe huge trellis doors mounted to a deeply embedded concrete pole. I'm wondering why you don't move the shades to the bottom of those windows. I imagine you could cut an inch or two off those tiles and put a black tile border or grout surround. You might be able to rout a small convex groove at the joints to eliminate the visible discrepancy that is caused by the the tiles being so close. I don't know if a router bit can withstand the hardness of those tiles, even with water cooling.

Specially malalaki na ang mga bata, halos di na magkita kita ang buong pamilya. But the the same time, i always have this problem with filipino houses na from the outside parang ang laki naman ng bahay pero pag pasok sa loob ang liliit/sisikip ng rooms...but nonetheless i love skypod.. parang ang sarap sarap gumalaw kasi ang luwag ❤️❤️❤️

Consider the location nearer the hospital. Consider also the added kids in the future. Like us condo b4 newly wed. Then nagka baby space naging maliit then we move to townhouse then 2 kids it looks small na again 2 storey then 2br w maids room still kulang

Black also holds the heat. White color reflects/bounce off the heat. So I suggest change the bedroom paint at least to a neutral color 😚

nice pad... after watching your house tour i think problems to be considered is how to maintain a clean clear smudge free glass panels ( mahirap maglinis..... hehehe) another one is your jalousie glass located at the living room .... same thing mahirap maglinis plus i think walang screen to protect against insects ..... pero overall maganda pa rin yung house

This video talks a lot about earnestness and credibility - owning up to your missteps... That compelled me to subscribe... I am also dreaming for a house both here in the US and in the Philippines, I take reference from your videos... Someday, I might ask you topics that are akin to many Americanized Filipinos perspectives and interests... Pinoy balikbayans who still nurture their roots back home...

Nonetheless, the Skypod is sooooo beautiful! Industrial but very homey and refreshing to stay in kasi it’s “connected” to the outdoors in a way. 💖

Happy bday sir slater... Im a fan of yours.. i just want to share some of my knowledge in concern with your hot room.. i recommend to change your fixed windows to jalousie, same in your living room so that hot air will be blown out the space bcos high air goes up... adding overhang will also work or a trellis or an arbor... please consider sun path for the dimension of overhang By the way im an arch. By profession and i love your house..
