Soul is the newest film release from Pixar studios. The film centers on Joe Garner, a music teacher who must reunite his soul with his body after a tragic accident has cut his life and his dream of a music career short. The film does an excellent job of making the intricacies surrounding the meaning of life easy to understand for kids. However, there is still plenty of content in the film that adults can appreciate. As a matter of fact, there are several references that will go right over the heads of the younger audience members. In this video, we will go over the things in Soul that only adults will notice.

I think another key point of the movie is that the universe seemed to restrict mentorship to people had lived extraordinary lives (Mother Theresa, Muhammed Ali, Martin Luther King etc). However it was only when a ‘normal’ person such as Joe flukes his way into being a mentor that a previously unreachable new soul (22) finds its confidence & purpose. This clearly pronounces that everybody is extraordinary no-matter the tag that may be placed upon them. Beautiful film.

@@oliviafife9496 That is the beauty of Pixar. So many layers. We all need help from each other to bring out the best in ourselves.Wouldn't surprise me if 22 went on to do great things & without the help from 'average' Joe (another easter egg me thinks) this could never have happened.
@thepopcornpros9714
@thepopcornpros9714 3 жыл бұрын
I agree... except that at the same time it could be argued that the reason 22 finds her spark is because she's able to go and experience the world for herself instead of simply being told about it and how great it is. I doubt that if she hadn't had those experiences Joe would've still been able to convince her living was a worthwhile thing. It was her own exploration and discoveries that allowed her to find her spark. Joe was just there to witness it really and give her guidance, but likely anyone in his position could've done that, 'tagged' as you describe it or not.

@@IsabellaCV what if that doesn’t happen though? Who is to say that life after death will be more pleasant? What if I were to tell you that Christianity was true and gives irrefutable evidence that what happens in the afterlife is a never ending nightmare for those who don’t accept Jesus as their Lord and have a relationship with Him? Would you believe me? Notice how the blue souls on the conveyer belt don’t seem to be bothered by where they’re headed even though the movie shows by the zapping noises at the end of the belt that accompany the passing of the souls indicates their destruction. What if that is an analogy for you? Don’t you seem to be unbothered by what happens after death even though you don’t know where you’re final destination is? The Bible makes a point on something. That without Jesus, we are in terrible danger. Most people ignore it. But the question is though, will you? Would you listen to what It also says about how to escape said destruction if I told you?

I think the comment about "wish they never died" speaks to life on earth, not the great beyond. Many people enjoy life and never want to die. Most people believe the great beyond will be better, but are in no hurry to get there. Terry would know that better than anyone: Terry prepares souls for life on earth with the knowledge that the great beyond is waiting for them when they die. The great beyond has to be worth the effort, right? If it wasn't, why bother preparing souls, right?

We have all sinned and fall short in glory of God(eg.Jesus says if any man looks at woman with lust he has committed adulterly with her in his heart..No man is that pure😅). So how did God give us this free gift🤔? He sent his only begotten son to be betrayed,humiliated ,beaten and die as fine/payment for our sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Since he is a just God and has to punish sin. All you have to do is humbly repent of all your sins(read the 10 commandments) honestly turn away from them. Believe in/trust that Jesus did that for you. Confess with your mouth that he is your lord and saviour..You will be saved from hell🔥. The holyspirit(his omnipresent spirit) will in dwell within you and convert your cold heart of stone into that of flesh that can truly love God and be a slave of righteousness and not of sin. I picked it up as Jerry referring to those people wishing they hadn’t died the way they DID, in contrast to the old ladies Joe encounters at the conveyor belt, who appear to have died of natural causes and seem happy to have finally passed. I didn’t think it had anything to do with the great beyond

There was this female soul in the bridge to the great beyond while Joe was running into that says "Where are my pants?" if you translate it into English. Which is sad to think because we know what is being implied.

The "lost souls" are likely people like Joe who had a near death experience, but rather than returning to their bodies, wound up where they weren't supposed to be. Being in the Great Before sounds like a highly implausible place for a soul to end up, but not so much when you consider souls on Earth can go back there by getting in the zone. This conveys the metaphysical nature of the areas shown and that they shouldn't necessarily be thought of as discrete spacial locations that are somehow separate from life on Earth. They are better thought of as existing more parallel to it, like the interior psychological worlds inhabiting each person's mind in Inside Out. To put it another way, Joe isn't literally on the way to the after life any more than Riley has literally forgotten how to feel joy in Inside Out when said emotion falls down into the proverbial recycle bin of her brain. The escalator represents his brain going through the natural processes of preparing for death, but he doesn't go all the way. Stuff like winding up in the body of a cat seems much harder to frame as an analogy, but consider what would happen if you empathized with what another person had to say to you so well that you did not only understand them better, but you also managed to get an outside view on your own life. Building on this again, 22 is not literally a soul that hasn't been born, but a person who doesn't see the point in engaging with life before they've had the chance to experience. Everything seems so difficult with so little payoff; something that Joe himself has been through. The mentors represent the various figures of our culture that are held up as examples; people who become great at something are typically inspired by those that came before them. In some cases, great figures who have been long dead. These people allude to the sense that life is worth living, but the basic sensation is something felt on a subjective basis, and that's the spark. All that said, there are lots of ways the analogy breaks down in each movie because they are, after all, allegorical.

Honestly it seems to me that adults get all existential and philosophical about it mainly. What I noticed was 1. That life is really like that where you make friends and lose them? 22s before life is a lot like real life. It's worth it to have the memories and the in moment joys. And 2. Living in the moment, enjoying what people take for granted or consider silly, is AMAZING.

Soul, I have not seen it yet but for the few reviews that I found the moral is about: your dreams are worth nothing, they are not worth it and do not hold on to just dream. wouuu really with that plot if it hits hard. I am 23 years old and I really have many dreams in my life, I will not say what they are to avoid the mockery of people but: it is a hard blow to reality and a sad and miserable monotonous life that I refuse to lead. I will see the movie soul as I am intrigued by a serious, raw and realistic plot.

No. The message of the movie is that you shouldn't become so obsessed with realising your dreams that it makes you neglect the other important things in life, and that the thing you love most isn't your "purpose" but rather the thing that makes your life worth living. In other words, if you love dancing it is more important to take joy from dancing than to become unhealthily fixated on being the most famous dancer in the world.

@@katietaylor8314 very well said. Even extremely artistic, smart, beautiful, talented, wealthy people can suffer from depression. Eternal life in heaven is a free gift from God. No human being deserves it due to his/her good works. This might be the last time you read the true gospel of salvation..look around 🔥🔥 the end is nigh. Please don't reject God's gift. Your soul is on the line.Jesus loves you❤
