Great video! I’m looking forward to an “interior design from Mars” point of view. I bet he 100% agrees about rugs being larger. He strikes me as the cozy type.

Oh yes!! He only sits on rugs, so I think he would be up for huge furry rugs 🤣

For a short moment I thought you were dissing small rocks and I got ready to write a long comment defending my collection of cool rocks. But then I understood that you meant rugs and I immediately got happy because I just got rid of my small rugs and bought two nice and big ones that fit my home much better and look so much better.

I totally agree with you about the accent walls. I have hated them my whole life. It always makes me feel like the owner wanted color, but was afraid to do the whole room, or they are unsure of their own taste. It makes the room feel less confident. As far as honesty in materials...I agree to a point. I really want honest materials and original production in things I really care about. My art is all original, my sofa is real leather. But some stuff i just care less about. I have a big rug in my kitchen so my dog will hang out with me while i cook. It isnt a focal point of the room at all. So i dont care that its a fake.

More of Mars please! I've always been a minimalist but through your channel I discovered japandi style. Just got home with all white linen bedding from Ikea. Love already. I also love the french esthetic as well. 🤍

Maybe laminate means something different where you live. Here in Ireland, most homes that don't have carpet have laminate wood flooring and it looks really good. I personally don't think I know anyone with hardwood floors unless they have a very old home.

Your taste is genuine/classic. But I know people that everything about them is loud and busy. They like busy. Those will be the ones that will get their feelings hurt by this advice. I can appreciate many styles ….just not in my house. My friend is a joy to be around and her house is too. It just breaks many of these tips. I like clean lines quirky art, and plenty of storage pieces to hide clutter. I don’t mind a large cheap rug. I have animals so I rotate them when they get dirty. I have several so it changes the atmosphere. I have hardwood floors and the dogs slip slide around without carpet. Thanks for the tips❤

I have just bought 60,- EUR faux plant from IKEA, actually looks cooland I can´t have real anyway...But I do agree with small rugs, that looks terrible and cheap. Accent walls, hmm, depends, can look nice as well sometimes...

We are moving into a home built into a hill. We cannot have closed cabinets on the kitchen walls because of the way it was originally built. And it's its very small. Open shelving is our only option. I did add some closed storage with furniture pieces and have a walk-in pantry to hide things. Love the advice!

I use plastic plant at my bedroom because I have two cats who like to damage my plants 😢 I understand that it looks fake but it's the only option to add something green in the room 😅😅 the real plants I keep in living room behind closed doors 😅
@HomeByMon

I know, trust me, I had so many fake plants in my home, and I understand why you are doing it! ❤ My home is facing north and not a single plant stays alive 😭 But I finally found one that is thriving for now (on the shelf behind me). It's absolutely fine to have fake plants if they make you happy, and you like them in your space! You do you! 🥰🫶 I'm just saying that not every single piece should be "fake" and if you are working with a space with laminate floors that look like wood, and marble looking contact paper and maybe brick print wallpaper... It piles up on the "fake" materials and it gets too much. And of course we all have fake things in our home. I shop at Ikea, so my "wood looking" consoles and side tables are not wood 🤣 I hope you understand what I'm trying to say and don't get this the wrong way 💕

Hey Mon! Just some of my ideas on the "dishonest" things concept you had in today's video 😊. I just have a different opinion on it is all If you don't have the budget or simply care to spend on the real thing, "dishonest" or replica things often look better than the alternative that you have or nothing at all... Like your floors for example. Also many of us rent so we don't have the rights to make certain adjustments even if we wanted to. I don't think it's dishonest. I just think it's a replica. Like if you don't feel safe with 30 candles in your bedroom but want a candlelight effect getting plastic candles does what you're looking for. Whether or not it's real fire or real wax that person got the effect they were looking for so the replica did the same job. Also, if I know it's fake that's fine by me. Something being "real" isn't like a moral success, it's just based on your values I think. I value having loads of flowers and plants in my place but I don't have the budget to buy 9 new bouquets every week and I don't want to worry about my expensive plants dying while traveling.

But I'm not mad. I've found a lot of value from your videos in my recent move to a new apartment. I love design and we overlap in aesthetic tastes at times.
@HomeByMon
@HomeByMon 19 күн бұрын
You are so right about everything you said 🙌 And it's true, renters of course cannot invest as much. However, I guess what I was trying to say is that if you're now decorating your home, instead of going with tiles that look like marble (and are not marble) just go for some that are in your budget. It will look so much better even if you have the cheapest tiles, than to get some that are obviously not marble, just look like that. I guess I'm talking more about things that are bad replicas and really obvious. In my opinion and for my home, I would rather have an option that's in my budget, but does not replicate something that's not. But that's just me. Whatever works for you and makes you happy - DO IT!! ❤
@aarond9563
@aarond9563 19 күн бұрын
@@HomeByMon yeah, got it. That makes sense. You're saying if you're going to replicate do it tastefully if there is a convincing alternative, otherwise it will look cheap.

I don't agree with your point about accent walls. It depends on the room and how the wall is used. If it the main wall where all the " "action" happens, like a media/tv wall or a bedroom wall behind the bed it often looks awesome to paint the wall different color.
