For a blue collar workforce we spend a lot of just helping employees log into the lms and find out how to access the courses

We are only three in our department, and I happen to do all the work, ID, scheduling, assessing, and delivery. It’s time and energy-consuming. Burnout kicks in a lot often.

I hear you!! That was me about six years ago and then I made the switch to full time ID. I don't do any delivery or admin crap anymore. Just get to focus on the one role and much happier. To be fair, there was a time in my life (younger) where I did enjoy doing all of it but after years and years, I got burned out.

@@yourlearningcareer Thank you a lot for the insight. I will definitely keep bringing in my personality to stay motivated. The way companies want the training to be held is not always the best.

So, is it advantageous for those of us with experience in all of the above (being a public school teacher) to mention those skills in learning and development, curriculum design, event planning, etc. when applying for corporate trainer jobs? Thank you for your videos - I appreciate them!

Thanks, Natalia! Yes, I would definitely highlight those as well. The more value you can add, the better!

What is the difference between corporate trainers and Instructional designers?
@yourlearningcareer2 жыл бұрын
Take a look at the articles I linked to in the description about "How to Become a Corporate Trainer" and the "Getting Started in L&D" one. When I talk about a "Corporate Trainer", I am talking about the person who is actually conducting/teaching a training class. Whereas, the instructional designer is the person who designs and develops the class. These are often separate positions but they are also very often combined into one role. And, in fact, most of my experience has been in jobs where I did both. I usually had titles like "Training Specialist" or "Learning and Development Specialist" and I was a combination of trainer and instructional designer. Hope that makes sense! 😀

I'm currently looking to specialized myself into L&D. Would it be a better starting point to do Instructional Design? Or is there a better way to go into this more efficiently? Thank you

In my opinion, it's most efficient to start where you are working now. And, you should start with whichever is most interesting to YOU. If that's ID, great but if you are more interested in some other aspect, then start there. For me, initially, it was training. I became a trainer within my department and built my career from there. I always recommend for people to look for training/design opportunities within their current job/department/company.

Instructional design is basically the planning out and creation of the training content. And then, the trainer delivers it. I have LOTS of videos covering both training and instructional design. Go to the channel home page and scroll down and you will see several playlists that I think will help you: www.youtube.com/@yourlearningcareer/featured I also have articles out on my website: www.yourlearningcareer.com
