To be fair, my elders gave me plenty of indications of the pain of getting older. The thing is, that I thought it would take longer to get old to feel the pain. Next thing I know, I'm 70 and playing the, what's going to hurt today game...

The random pains are just great, aren’t they? I’m not much older than you, but I have the added joy of randomly falling down when walking because a knee has decided it no longer wishes to function. Well, it does do the bendy thing, so I suppose it does that function alright, but it forgets it has to do the holdy-up bit too. That day walking across the street from my truck to my parents’ house was fun. Crumpled heap in literally the middle of the road. Things for the younglings to look forward to.

The pain keeps me up all night most nights. But the pain lets me know I'm still alive. So I have this dart board sorta thing, and I throw a dart every night at bedtime. On the board are parts of the body. Right knee, right hip, right ankle, entire right leg, left hip, repeat from the right side, and my favorite, BOTH hips, knees, or entire legs. That plus the right shoulder, the so-called "Thoracic output" which kills my arm if it's not in exactly the right position, I will not go on. As a vet I figure you know all this but our crazy Uncle gave us all sorts of "benefits" for our service. So, yeah... pain.

Keep going as long as you can. I had to leave a job I loved because I could physically no longer do it. No more daily driving a manual, or lifting and shifting patients up and down stairs without fear of either my leg buckling under my own weight (let alone when carrying someone), or my shoulder again coming out. Some days I’m on first name terms with pain killers 😁

They are giving me a muscle ache all over my body like the last time I had the flu or c19. Happy effin bday... But yeah the neighborhood kids still knock on my door asking if I want to play some park football. Well boys... "I ain't as good as I once was, but I am good once as i ever was"
