Things to Do on Peak's Island, Maine

Hi everyone! Welcome back to my channel. I took a few days off and decided to visit Maine, with one of these days spent on Peak's Island. This is the closest island to Portland, and just a short 15 - 20 minute scenic ferry ride away. We used a golf cart to explore the island. Couple of quick tips that we found: majority of the island is residential, but you should go along the perimeter of the island to get the most scenic views of the water. All of the restaurants are located at the area where you get off the ferry, and there is also a decently sized local supermarket there for any snacks as well. To get around the island, you can either walk, bike, golf cart, or drive a car (yes you can bring your car onto the ferry). There is one public bathroom on the island and that bathroom is located in a parking lot near where you get off from the ferry.

I definitely recommend this to most people who haven’t been out on peaks, I personally spend the entire summer there sailing, i love just how much freedom you feel there and how fun it is just to go around the island itself

I been to Portland, Maine and fell in love with the place. I went to Peaks Island and rode the golf cart. I am sure once in my life that I want to move to Portland, Maine after Anchorage, Alaska. Alaska will always be home but Maine is Next. I wish the Gate to the Portland Headlight was open. It was a bummer it was closed but I recommend Maine to all people. Check out the High Roller Restaurant, their lobster rolls are the bomb. I am even hungry thinking about Lobster Rolls and Lobsters now. This won’t be my last trip.

Do you need a drivers license to utilize the golf carts? Also. What month did you actually go, the weather looks amazing

You do need a drivers license, and I went in October

No one is checking IDs for golf carts on that island unless you are DUI.

how long can you stay at each island? is there a specific time you have to leave (like you have to take that specific ferrie back)?

Yes, believe it was in the evening. They also offer lodging there though if you wanted to stay the night.

Peaks resident here, there is not really a set boat time you have to take back. The tickets are round trip and only collected on the Mainland side. usually people will take the 1215 from Portland and head back on either the 1445 or 1545. As for lodging, the inn has only 7 rooms, and a apartment suite that are usually booked solid through the summer due to weddings, so plan accordingly.
