You are so right about about knowing how to drive. I have taught several immigrants how to drive. I actually find it kind of fun. Taught so many friends. and friends kids how to drive. Never would charge someone. There must be some kind of connection of friendship though.

Things to know before moving to America - Arrive with a damn good set very marketable skills. Expect to try and fail several times before you succeed multiple times, or even one time. Know how to speak English with reasonable fluency. Don't be an asshole who thinks he's going to show & tell Americans how to be Americans, and what it means to be American. "America" is an abbreviation for The United States of America, because in fact the entire western hemisphere is "America." Be humble, be wise, be damn hard working, and above all ... @@galaadventures their are two kinds of debt. Good debt that allows you to raise the capital necessary to make a profit. Which can be paid off in full asap. Then their is bad Debt. Such as credit cards that allow you to purchase junk. For the most part you want to stay on a cash diet. If you have to borrow money then you are flat broke. Take the remaining money you have and put it towards a hustle to make more money. Those snickers or apartment can wait.

Good job. NOt sure why KZfaq recommended this to me, but nice to the point. Suggestion. When you talk about driving, tie that to how large the country really is. So many of my coworkers that came from other countries, just are confused when they first get here about how LARGE this country really is. On the love of Guns, again, a large part of that is that MOST of the U.S is rural, and there are a LOT of hunters in this country. Plus, when you mention the love of Guns, you should point out the 2nd amendment. Based on what my friends from other countries tell me another big thing that doesn't get talked about near as much is Freedom of Religion. While many countries have it, few have it as we do. At least according to my friends from other countries. They are usually are amazed and confused by it (because it is a bit different from country to country)

Apartment rent in the cities is usually $800 to $2,000 a month so you will need a friend or two to split the rent. You can find cheaper rent but it will be in a very bad area. Crime in the cities is very high while the rural areas have little crime. If you don't know English well then you are in trouble. If you only know Spanish you can get by with help in hispanic areas (California, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico). Food is $400 a month. Electricity is $35. Gas for heat is $15. Cable TV is $100. Internet is $60 or more. Phone is $20 to $100 a month. This is not counting medical, transportation, or furnishings. Also, federal income taxes will be taken out of your paycheck based on the amount you earn. It will be from 2% up to 36%. Some US states have income taxes as well and they are about 1/3 to 1/2 the federal income tax. You also have to pay an 8% tax on every purchase. Another 12% social security will be a taken out of your paycheck that you will not get until you reach the age of 63. Yes, you can make money in the US but you're only going to be able to get a job that no American wants to do. You are going to work much harder than you ever have before. Tip #1: Stay in your own country and make things better there.

@@galaadventures If you go to a trade school, it should be 6 months. It will cost between $800 and $2,000. The written tests aren't too hard, if you study and do the online quizzes to prepare you. The only bad part about the written tests is the wording. This is how they throw you off from what you were expecting, from doing the online quiz. It could be harder if you go for something like Tanker or Hazmat, which are an add-ons. Manual is harder than automattic. Some people just can't do manual in a truck. I understand because I was 1 of them. I was taught how to drive a manual car before I ever got a normal license. Manual trucks are just different. The driving test was the hardest BY FAR. It might be less hard, depending on which inspector you get. I HATED learning the Pre-trip inspection the most. Learning to drive the forklift was awesome! If you go to a college or any other type of Truck Driving school that is not part of a Tech School, you will pay $8,000 and be pushed to learn everything in 2 weeks!!! That is SO WRONG!!! All this info takes time to process! Also, don't go straight to a company and learn to drive that way. They will probably scam you somehow. You will learn what companies are good and bad, as well as learn which truck manufacturers are your favorite. I also went thru School bus driving school too, if you are interested in that too.

@@LordLaroyalty thanks for the insight! I always wonder how truck driver’s experiences are! I know that has to be exhausting, but I envy how you can travel and work at the same time! Take care and I appreciate sharing your knowledge and experience.
