Thank you! so um about this uni lol, edin is a cool uni i think i would recommend you to go to a uni where the people and city is better imo and not so much on the course. Coz the main thing is just your sanity so like go to a uni where the social events and society seems cool i guess. So like edin in general is really crowded tbh and like the cs building is appleton tower which is like near the city centre of edinburgh so like there are people walking all the time but its also nice tbh I guess that Edinburgh is crowded coz like there is also a lot of shops and activities and the nightlife here is also nice. im studying a joint degree in EEE and CS and like I feel the CS lecturers are much better and we also have a tight discord CS community in Edinburgh which is really nice, I guess don't really worry that much about competition with other students coz you really just have to focus on yourself only tbh but ya there are really super smart students here (which you can ask for help as well) so about the course um from what im seeing looking at this website for CS BSc: www.drps.ed.ac.uk/22-23/dpt/utcmpsi.htm it seems we do have machine learning courses in like year 3 and 4 and foundation of data science in like year 2 deep learning might be some concept in one of the ai courses i guess about the masters this is the masters offered for cs in edin: www.ed.ac.uk/studying/postgraduate/degrees/index.php?r=site/bySubject&edition=2022&sid=9 i don't see computer engineering sadly. there's a lot of things which i dislike about this uni too tbh like ik uni of edinburgh is meant to be like one of the best in the world for like cs but sometimes i just feel like there's too many students and not enough staff so like i don't feel that comfortable with the lecturers, most of the students in cs are really nice but ya i guess this goes for like big uni's in general sometimes i feel there isn't always the best support from lecturers idk i guess i care more about the atmosphere than the course itself, so like i think looking back i would prefer to go to a smaller uni which has good lecture to student ratio with a good nightlife or like fun people in general i think if you have a group of friends you probably gonna be fine tbh in any uni thats basically all you need at this point but ya hopefully this helps in some way.

For the accommodation, um i can't really say if your uni or private accom will be better coz i think it really can depend, like some uni accom can be better than private and vice versa, idk in my second year of uni i was in a uni acccom but that accom was pretty run down i feel but the flatmates I met were pretty nice but I feel that can really depend on your luck with uni accom, then we have student accom, where they make the accoms specfically for like studying so there's like a proper table and so on, but if you don't know anyone in that accom it can be pretty lonely like for me it was pretty lonely. I really can't give you the prices of anything tbh coz it really depends. But like generally speaking I would try to go for accoms with ppl so there will be less loneliness, but also when you go to an accom with ppl hopefully the ppl that you have aren't bad housemates or whatever, and idk if you can really tell about that. So like the best way is to at least try and make some friends that you like in edin and get a private accom with them, that would be the best scenario For the discord grps I can give you one of them discord.gg/6ws3DAU3 Maybe you can try and talk to some of the seniors in one of the channels? All the whatsapp groups I found for my year was just trough Facebook so maybe try and look out edin informatics facebook for it? Honestly, jobs in cs are pretty tough to find rn in uk like at this point there's basically nothing in edinburgh for cs jobs and its getting really competitive right now, me and my friends have experienced a lot of rejection already, I definitely have to find jobs around uk and not just edinburgh, I had a friend who graduated in cs and spent a year trying to get jobs but couldn't really, so it is pretty bad sadly. Salary in cs jobs is pretty high (check out the website "gradcracker") Tbh, I used to be like you, I cared alot about uni ranking that is actually one of the largest factor why I went to edin also lol, at this point of my life I really don't care about uni ranking, because the job market is so competitive right now so I just need to be good in programming, the higher uni ranking doesn't mean you will get a better teaching experience anyways, so if you think you gonna be happier somewhere else in uk I think just go for it I guess coz main thing is your happiness and like you can enjoy the place you can live and have friends I guess, edin is a beautiful place and all that and students here in informatics are really nice for the most part, but main thing is that you should go to a place where you can make friends and be happy imo, don't care so much about the ranking honestly i feel. Sorry for the late reply, imo there are good and bad lecturers and good and bad modules, like some lecturers put in more time and effort in teaching the students especially in the earlier years but in the later years in some optional modules, some of the lecturers don't really put that much effort and sometimes they would mainly focus in their own phD work so it really depends on the module that you're picking and the lecturer itself tbh. Like in some of my engineering modules the lecturer didn't really answer the student questions i feel and the notes felt a bit repeated but some of my other engineering modules were fine. In terms of support of lecturers i think this also depends on the lecturer if they're gonna be able to answer your questions or not. In edinburgh, we have a thing called piazza and students can come and ask questions in there and either a lecturer or another student will answer on there which is nice at least coz there are so many students in some modules and the lecturer can't handle all of them so we have students helping other students, especially in informatics we have a cool discord server where we kind of discuss questions and stuff like that so its nice. so i guess it depends on the lecturer but the cool thing i like about edinburgh informatics at least is that in my experience the students i met and friends i made in informatics is pretty nice and a alot of them are really helpful also, we have a discord server where the ppl there are pretty chill also

I think cs at uoe is pretty cool like uoe is one of the best in cs in the world like we are really famous for nlp and ai in uoe, but like the thing is like even with a bachelors degree in cs rn its still really hard to get a cs job right now. I have a friend who graduated in cs and is finding it really tough to get cs jobs in uk, even the dissertation topics in uoe seem more general and not really that applicable for jobs, i think other uk unis like ucl might be better for job hunting than uoe (coz i think ucl has dissertation topics which are more specialized to what some companies want) idk but ya like cs jobs in uk rn is getting pretty bad sadly.

As for job prospects i am not planning to work in uk, but in europe so would it make that much of a difference? I have unconditional offers from both ucl and uoe and considering everything (like reputation and quality of education) i was planning to come to uoe but what would you suggest?

Ooooh ucl or edin damn, idk dude like the main thing I feel is that you can make friends somewhere in one of the unis also but I guess I would choose ucl if its better in terms of job hunting but I think you should definitely contact the uni department about this like how easy do graduates find jobs in each of the unis and so on, they will definitely have a contact email in their website. Uni of Edinburgh is one of the top ranked Uni's in the World for CS according to the Uni rankings, so there's a lot of smart students from literally all sorts of countries coming to the Uni and there are a lot of smart students with all kinds of CS experience ( i know some students which make Chess AI using all sorts of weird algorithms ) before coming to the Uni and some of them have worked in a lot of CS internships before arriving here. So when I came, I felt a bit behind coz I didn't have much CS experience (I never studied a CS subject before). But there's also a lot of students in my shoes as well. But as you progress trough Uni you start to get better and it becomes fine. The lecturers also understand there's a lot of student with no CS experience. You shouldn't compare yourself with other students in this uni. There are smart students but it doesn't matter, the main thing is that you pass your exams and socialize with friends and that's good enough. You don't need to be the best in uni. I didn't have much experience tbh, I basically just learnt programming trough youtube before. But like I guess before going to uni, just make cool shit tbh like learn a programming language like java ( i like java) and like try and be good with it for a while then switch to another try and program simple games like tic tac toe or like some password generator algorithm or like an rpg game or chess ai stuff just have fun with it. then do some leetcode or hackerrank questions and check out the "cracking the coding interview" book, the main important concept in cs is just algorithms and data structure's so try and be good with that, all the different tree algos and stuff, once you program stuff just for yourself like games and so on i think you would have fun in programming.

Hi! Yes it is possible, but I think its easier for second going to third year students because companies would see that you have extra knowledge than a first year student. But I know some seniors which did do an internship in their first year, and it's good as well because they have more of an experience so its easier to apply for a placement year. But if you're looking for ways to get some money besides an internship you can be a tutor in uni for the junior batches and you can get some profit from it. There's actually a lot of job opportunities where you can work in the uni and get some money from it (one of my friend from another uni, had a job managing a booth during freshers week), I think you just need to keep an eye on any emails which is looking for someone to hire. Hopefully this answers your question :)

G400 is Computer Science BSc and G401 is Computer Science BEng. Here's the link for G401:www.drps.ed.ac.uk/22-23/dpt/utcmpsibe.htm Here's the link for G400: www.drps.ed.ac.uk/22-23/dpt/utcmpsi.htm BEng seems to have the same modules as the BSc one but the thing that I saw is that at the end of Year 2 for BEng they did say some criteria before you're allowed to move to Year 3 they said this: "Students who do not meet these criteria, but who do meet the University criteria to pass the year, will be permitted to switch to the BSc Computer Science in order to achieve an honors degree award." So I think for BEng if you don't get enough credits you're allowed to switch to BSc and the same goes for Year 4 as well if you don't meet the criteria in the link, but you do meet the University criteria to pass the year, you would be permitted to switch to the BSc Computer Science in order to achieve an honor's degree award. I don't really know which is better to pick G400 or G401 but I would just pick BSc one tbh that's what most students pick anyways. When you enroll to this uni you can also ask your Personal Tutor what are the differences between those two and hopefully he/she can help you.

Hi! In terms of work/life balance I feel in Year 1 its pretty chill so like have fun in Year 1 but like in Year 2 onwards, it feels much more work and idk sometimes I feel like its just an overwhelming amount of work coz like every week we have some new assignments and new things to revise and so on. But you kind of just make time to have fun like in uni no-one is going to tell you to do this or go to that event (so in a way it kind of feels like a weird holiday) but just got to make some time sometimes to have fun when you're free. About the student to professor ratio I'm no sure entirely but like in Year 1 and 2 we had a lot of compulsory modules so like there were some subjects where it was like 200 students to 1 professor but then there are also optional modules which some students can pick and that might just have like 50 students to 1 professor. I think a lot of people have imposter syndrome in this uni as well. I think I had imposter syndrome as well. CS is tough at Uni of Edinburgh there's all sorts of geniuses studying CS at this uni with like years of experiences in CS but there's also a lot of CS students with no knowledge of CS as well. I kind of feel its tough to be an A student and all that but like imo you don't have to be the best here, try and make some friends here and like help each other for exams and you shld be fine.

This is a good question! I'm actually an international student. So basically I applied to UK unis like Uni of Edinburgh, UCL, Kings College London and Imperial through UCAS during my first year of A-Levels. Basically, the requirements to get to Edinburgh was just 3A's in your A-Levels ( the rest of the Uni's was 1A* 2A and Imperial Uni was 2A* 1A), I don't remember if there was a specific subject that you needed to get an A in but I guess just choose the normal A-Level subjects (Maths, Chem, Physics) maybe CS as well. The subjects that I took was Maths, Chem, Physics, Maths and Further Maths, and I got 3A* and 1A. So I basically got accepted to Edinburgh just because of my A-Level grades, you might need to do IELTS as well to meet the English requirements for any UK uni's but I didn't coz I got an A in IGCSE English.

This is a good question. There are some scholarships available for International undergrad students ( I don't have one sadly) . Check out this website. www.ed.ac.uk/student-funding/undergraduate If you live in UK or you're EU citizen the tuition fees wouldn't be that expensive but it is very expensive for international students( just like other Uni's). But if you can, try and get a scholarship from your own country if you're an international student. Because I don't think it would be very easy to get a scholarship from this Uni. I'm Malaysian and I have Malaysian friends in this Uni which got Malaysian scholarships to be able to study here. Hope that answers your question. :)
