Wow, Steve using hand tools. Yeah, I got into using power saws from a bundle of birch branches I bought at a hobby store. I was excited to make them into a unique block set for my son. I always used hand tools in the past to cut various material for my crafting hobby so I thought no big deal. Well after cutting off a single piece and half way through another brach I threw down my hand saw and said enough. I had to admit to myself that my problem was a fear of power saws. So ultimately I searched youtube for safety videos, product reviews etc and as of a month ago I now own a miter saw and a table saw. I have also been binge watching your awesome videos. Thanks birch branch for refusing to let me become one with you and thanks Steve for your awesome videos that introduced me to woodworking.

I know they are basicly the fathers of electrical appliances, but doesn't anyone know the actual inventor of the powersaw? :C
@pforce910 жыл бұрын
Alonso Quintero THEY are not the inventors, TESLA is. Westinghouse and Edison were idiots compared to Tesla. The power saw was probably invented way before electricity was common. Probably sometime during the industrial revolution and more than likely steam powered.

DC power is safer and easier to store while AC is easier to change the voltage of DC is preferable power supply but AC is used so you dont have to have a power station in every small town and village and hundreds in every major city

Dad and I cut down 3 very old orange trees that were in the backyard when Mum and Dad bought the place a few years ago but the trees had gone feral so no fruit on them any more but when we were cutting down the tree I put a whole load of it in my drying racks so that I can make something out of them once they had seasoned off :-) I noticed when cutting down the trees the smelled very much like oranges :-) I did not know that before but the wood grain on them is gorges :-) and as such will not work with them until I have the right project :-) for wood turning :-) I did love the bandsaw box so I think that's on my list of thins to make from one part of my tree :-) Thanks for The ideas :-) I did make a clock with a slice of the orange tree trunk and that came out nice :-) made it for a friend but will have to make another one for me I think :-)

Amazing ideas! I don't even remember why I came to this video, but, believe it or not, for well over 5 years I have a beautiful, straight 8ft long and 1.5ft thick very old apple-tree log in my yard. I was often thinking what I could do with that beautiful "tree". (It fell over in a strong storm and I cut off the top third with the branches to burn on the BBQ.) Now I have some inspiration. - Hope to be able to post you a video of the results, one of these days. Thanks, and cheers from Australia.

I used to cut down larger saplings and use that wood to make model engine propellers. I used a hatchet to cut it down to about 10" lengths, and split off approximate thickness boards that I would later hand-carve to shape, dry, and balance/sand. Painted grey with red tips, from a little over 4 inches to some 7 inch ones, they worked and was one of the coolest things I've done with raw wood. Just thought I'd share. ^^

I think the reason people don't use a lot of woods is because the way they grow only provides for smaller pieces of lumber. I personally, like to use Crape Myrtle. I think my peach tree out back got hit by lightning. If it doesn't make it, I'll be glad to see what it's got under the bark.
