Things you might not know about Guernsey 🇬🇬

Күн бұрынI've been in Guernsey for about a month now, so I decided it was time to finally make a video here! This one is a bit random, showing some of the things I've noticed in Guernsey, but it's also strung out alongside a hike from the Table des Pions, or Fairy Ring, in the extreme west of Guernsey. I'll tell you about the Channel Islands' relationship with the UK, differences between the Bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey, the post boxes, traffic filters instead of roundabouts and plenty of other random things about this beautiful little island!
We also stop by the famous Little Chapel to see what all the fuss is about, and I show you a curiosity of Guernsey currency, finished up with a delicious Sunday roast at the Thomas de la Rue, one of my favourite pubs.
I'm here for at least a couple more months, so let me know if you have any video ideas, suggestions or requests in the comments!

Around 13:57 you missed the granite circle in the road denoting the centre of the island 👍🇬🇬

@@helloantoniotraveladventures it’s nothing special there. but a ring of granite cobble sadly it’s not even marked. you know if you know I think it’s where all old measurements were taken from by cartographers can’t remember 👍🇬🇬

@@helloantoniotraveladventures I did do a lot, but I sold my (local market) property a few years ago and havent been much since. But I am in regular contact and will hopefully come this year. Im still very attached, know (nearly) every road, every rock. Its where Im from. Thanks for your videos! Really good! You seem to know more about the islands than even some locals, you obviously bother while others dont 👍👍

V R must stand for Victoria Regina (try saying that after you've had a few in the Thomas de la Rue), a very old postbox! Good to see Guernsey again, I was based there for a month some years ago. Many of the street signs are in French, but in the A-Z they're in English and quite often not a direct translation. Funny/frustrating if you're trying to drive somewhere specific. Amazing chapel, well worth your £2 donation. I hope you're enjoying your time in Guernsey, very different to Brussels.

😂 You're spot on, I knew about Elizabeth Regina on the pillar boxes I'm familiar with back home, just didn't make the connection, which obviously I should as a linguist... As a kid, I always thought the "ER" stood for "'er royal highness" 😂 How did you end up in Guernsey? I love it here in all honesty, a refreshing change of pace from hectic Brussels! @@helloantoniotraveladventures Er royal highness.... lol. I used to work as a loss adjuster in London and my company sent me out there to help the Channel Islands office in Guernsey to assess severe storm damage. They gave me a Ford Kia while I was there (not much fun when you're 6 feet tall), but every Friday I flew with Aurigny Airlines to Jersey (12-minute flight) where at least they gave me a Ford Escort. I looked forward to those Fridays.

@@helloantoniotraveladventures Oops, it was a Ford Fiesta, not an Escort, still better than a Kia. I liked the charm of St Peter Port and Guernsey and the slightly more urban feel of St Helier. I never met any French speakers either much to my disappointment.
