Think Again Before Moving to Japan

When we move to other countries, our heads are filled with worries like how our housing will be, what kind of lifestyle we would have to change, what kind of neighbors we would meet, also things like setting up a bank account, insurance etc.
I have thoroughly thought of those moving to Japan, but one thing I missed turned out to be my biggest challenge.

There’s a book called “this Japanese life” by Eryk Salvaggio and in the book along with his blog he mentions there being known knowns, known unknowns and unknown unknowns. And an example of this would be his description of “how as a foreigner working at a desk job would you know to assign a work email from highest to lowest superiority”. And that in Japan certain things will be unknown to you but you are still be expected to follow certain etiquettes, and how as a non Japanese citizen you’d be seen as lessor or to that of a infant. Even before reading this authors blog I knew the thought of actually living in Japan would be hard but when he put the unknown knowns into perspective I grew sober to the fact that living in Japan for most would just be a pipe dream.

Thanks to you, I’ve found a great read! I have just read his blog, ‘On Caring About Your Lonely Friends in Japan’ and I found many things resonated with me. At least knowing that I’m not the “only one” with the problem made me feel better, so, thank you!

@@S4boriman I’m glad I commented! You’re absolutely welcome. Eryk has such a way of showing a different perspective of Japan than any other author or blogger I’ve seen and so I always appreciate the perspectives of others and there way of articulating said views. Gotta find the time to read his book, I just got it sitting at my desk until I finish my other books haha. Cheers!

Well, I don't really know what caused me to see or decide to watch this video, but it seems pretty well done, and I wish you further luck in your youtube channel. I do somewhat understand a feeling of isolation from being far from friends and family, working in the territories in Canada.

Rather than a comment this is more of a self reflection for me The Algorithm has blessed both you and me, you because your video has reached way more people than you expected. And me because I have witnessed your first video and also encouraged me to make my own I'm still starting, and have not had the courage to make my first videos precisely because of how it would be received, or didn't know how to begin at all So thank you for your words of encouragement mr beast I really needed it (lol) And thank YOU Saboriman for reminding me that starting may not be easy but not doing so is worse than not even trying Thank you, and may both our journeys be safe and not lose our ways in the process

Are you able to work remotely for a foreign company? I know the time zone differences may make that difficult but it may be able to provide more money and better work life balance.

*binge watches different genres of videos without any kind of connection between them* *get recommended this video* *context is loliness and human's alianation* Me: Alright, Google agent. You don't have to be such a judgemental bitch in the middle of the day. Jokes aside, I think that as a first video, this is quite good and pretty nice. Since I am interested in livestreaming and content creation, I can say that it is a solid one. Of course, you can say that it can have more refined editing, compilation of stock footage/stock images, but you can waste a lot of time on trying to find best websites, programs and hardware to make a video (and like certain someone, don't have time to actually make one) or you can say "fuck it", pull the trigger and see what happens. Wish you to grow strong both as a content creator and as a human.

I planned to work in Japan as 3D modeler but after a trip over there, I decided not to stay due to their terrible working ethic. Even then, I still applied for a Japanese company at my home country hoping they would be integrated to the local customs but nope, still long working hours, still shitty pay for working on AA or AAA game titles, terrible Japanese leadership resulting in a lot of dramas and high overturn rate, you can call it a black company for sure. After all this, my respect for Japanese working culture goes straight into the trash bin and I start treating them as just another corporate filth like any others around the world.

Japanese company overseas are a black and white situation. Sometimes you’ll get great ones that actually can give great benefits and have great environment, but half of the time it’s just the same company but with an overseas post. There was a commotion in my country that starts with woman must sleep with her japanese boss to get a promotion in her office, and when an investigation started they opened a whole can of worms

It’s not my first rodeo living alone, I’ve been moving out since 2016, and have been working since 2019 back in my home country With those information above I can tell you, it’s a whole different beast you’re dealing with here, and it’s pretty wild
