Is there any way to get the Chord Track to allow us to select intervals relative to the last chord entered? I am just beginning to learn, and trying to remember which chord interval is for what scale all of the time, is slowing me down to a grinding halt... I want to learn by applying, but I can't seem to find a way to do it anywhere. There are references online which show emotional relationships to intervals... And since scales are relative, trying to memorize infinite notes (all at one time) does some of us no good. Thank you for ALWAYS taking the time to care enough to provide quality, educational content, Guy.

Do you think it would be a good idea to make a video about how to orchestrate articulations? You seem to have different templates for different approaches (multiple separate tracks per instrument/articulation, keyswitched combined tracks). Could be interesting to go over the pros and cons where orchestra composition is concerned... just an idea :)

I'm not a Cubase or Logic user (Reaper is my DAW of choice), and Reaper also does this - in Reaper it's called the Action List, and it's possible to link everything to a hotkey or a custom toolbar, or both. I have such a tool bar for changing things like the quantise grid and clip/item loop functions. Makes life easy. Great tip Guy. :)

@@ThinkSpaceEducation Reaper also allows one to create Custom Actions by linking any Action to any other (as many as you like, the order dictates the order of what occurs) and then assigning the whole lot to one Custom Action or Hot Key. Such a brilliant function and saves a lot of time. Keep up the great work man.

Reaper is the best. I have Cubase, but since I have learned to know the Reaper DAW and working with that, I don't use Cubase anymore. You are so free in this DAW and can customize almost everything how you want. With the great Actions-Feature you can control and trigger everything. Also you can customize Themes, Screensets, many different Layouts with Docking Windows , Toolbars and their Buttons and so on. Also you don't need a USB Dongle like Cubase and it has a very small Download Size. You can have Reaper portable on a USB Stick if you want. Version Updates comes often and quickly. In Reaper it doesn't matter and dont need different tracks for video, midi, instruments and audio samples. And with the Reaper Plugin SWS-Extension you can get more useful stuff. It's a great DAW.

For those who can't afford a Streamdeck or happen to have an old tablet or phone lying around, you can get the Deckboard app for the tablet/phone which will basically replicate all the functionality of a Streamdeck. It is not as refined and polished as the Streamdeck system, and of course tablets have touchscreens instead of nice tactile buttons, but it is another great option for those on a budget or just wanting to reuse old mobile devices.

I do a similar thing with Reaper that could be useful to you all. In Reaper you can concatenate multiple actions and link this custom-created list of actions to a single shortcut (let's say cmd + G). For example, when I program MIDI drums, I divide each instrument (kick, toms, snare, etc.) into separate MIDI tracks. Then I use the shortcut to print in a single shot all the midi tracks into separate stereo audio tracks and get rid of the original MIDI tracks. This saves a lot of time!

A great tip is that I assign the (-) and (+), (the two to the left of the backspace button, not the ones on the 'NUM Pad'), to frame advance video files for exact and precise frame for putting 'markers' in the hit points for scoring. This is called 'Frame Forward, and Frame Minus in the Key Commands. Great one guy, I do have a Stream Deck on my Crimbo list, just in case you feel a little generous this year. lol. 🧐🤓😎👓

For example I usually have tracks 1 and 2 mapped to my vocal tracking and full mix busses and I can mute/unmute them quickly when hooked to MIDI controllers with spare buttons, but it’s not always the case.

Or use a tablet/smartphone with TouchOSC, Lemur or... I forget the name of the pricey (~£28 when I looked) Stream Deck equivalent app. Combine with your macro manager of choice. I’m using TouchOSC on both an iPhone 3G with iOS4.something and an iPad 3 with iOS 9.3.4, which connect fine with iTunes in Mojave. For macro management, when required, I’m mostly using Keyboard Maestro, with a few functions still using BetterTouchTool (though I’m slowly migrating to KM). Quicksilver is also an option and it’s free. However, I found it so difficult to setup and program, I’ve no idea if it handles MIDI like KM and BTT do. In an ideal world, I’d use Lemur app over TOSC, due to it’s capability for internal modifiers. Also, the editor is better developed vs Hexler’s clunky JavaScript solution. But the simplicity of TOSC is certainly faster to set up and learn.

I use Presonus Studio One. Such a neat and forward DAW. You should check that one out and make a video about it. It sure has Key Commands :)

Maybe you could do this with a Launchpad mini or an Akai APC Mini (can't remember what Guy had before the StreamDeck)?

Elgato streamdeck XL: "delivery date unknown" on Thomann site today . Ditto for the standard size (15 switches). Only the mini version (6 switches) seems to be available at this time. 😞 (if you read that in the future I'm located in february 2012 AD on planet Earth)

Just got the standard size stream deck from Thomann. Delivery date was about 10 days after purchase. This is february 2021 :-)

@@raezz1 Happy you. Perhaps the disponiblity is ≠ according to the country, I usualy connect to thomann thru their /fr subsection and maybe, if you just got it, you ordered it in january when the product was still available.

And I presume you load, profiles? To change from program to program? Cubase to logic? Audacity? Flight sim? And the key combinations are saved as profiles and you simply load one per program and the little keys light up with there labels.

Love this! I’m trying to streamline my workflow, wondering which shortcuts you use the most, either by keyboard shortcut or assigning to the StreamDeck?

On the keyboard you run out so fast you end up with bizarre combinations you cant remember hence I usse stream deck

@@ThinkSpaceEducation thank you! what’s your favourites to put on the StreamDeck? I’m making a poor mans stream deck, using a USB keypad, thinking of adding transport controls, metronome, browse VST library etc. Wondering what’s on your StreamDeck too! Thanks for all the great content, it’s a joy to watch! 👍

Hello Guy. Do you think stream deck xl it's not overpriced in compare for instance to Fadeport 8 where you have access to mixer and many more functions included assing few shortcuts or to Raven if you want near unlimited possibilities with shortcuts?

@@ThinkSpaceEducation I agree. I like the idea stream deck but in my opinion version XL should be in price standard one at least. I using currently maschine studio as my shortcuts transmitter. Via remote control I can assign 8 ×16 pads so is enough.Komplete kontrol have option mixer integrated so working good. And maschine jam use as step sequencer so my basic needs are covered. I thinking about Raven but I'm not sure if this can make enjoy my workflow. Anyway thanks for advice and for another video on your chanel. Waiting for next one. Maybe one day we see how to create music to horror movie :)

Great tip! But I must be missing something - what would I need a Streamdeck for, I already have an F11 key on my keyboard? What value does the Streamdeck add?
