Dude! Thank you so much for posting. I have 500 sq ft of patio with heavy thinset and starting with a walk behind grinder and then escalated to a rotary planer/scarifier! And yes, I'm married! LOL Thanks for the dust separator idea.

You definitely need a vac with 25 CFM per inch of cup wheel diameter. That puppy looks like a 7 inch grinder, which means you need 175 CFM. This usually means hooking up two vacuums of 125 CFM with a Y connector. If you need help with the setup, we know a guy (we are the guy).

Hello! Happy i came across this comment. I am in the same boat and cannot afford to have dust. My wife runs a daycare and there must be minimal dust produced even if kids are not present during off hours. I have a 7' inch grinder as well. I look forward to hearing from you.

I have to remove tile from the front porch on the house I just bought. Its slippery when wet and we get ice. Not sure how elderly people ever lived here. Its also broken in several spots.

I wouldve used a pneumatic chisel from harbor freight $130 and it wouldve been done in an hour tops. Alot easier and they are atleast 4 ft long so u dont have to be crouching. Pulls thinset up clean and fast.

Those pneumatic chisels suck man. Only thing I use it for is for small vct areas. Up to 200sqft or less

@trendscoutplus4584

@@donaldclemmons5980 I dont know if a pneumatic chisel is any more powerful than electric chipping hammers by Bosch's big ones or Makita's Medium sized ones, both of which I've used on commercial construction (structure shell form work for concrete pouring) for over 20 years, and HATED, for after a pour after the concrete is hard, cleaning off excess concrete around concrete column bottoms ( the base of a column where it adjoins perpendicular to a floor slab ) and would much prefer to grind it off. Mechanical Chiseling or Chipping is NO FASTER, don't believe a word from that post, it's torture on your hands, forearms, and wrists especially, when done repetitiously. Site foremen & superintendents know this and are leary that if/when a worker gets fatigued they may carelessly gouge the surface of a freshly poured slab at the base of a column and so they're always on your case to be careful about that, and that's exactly why I would prefer to use one of these instead. But they're set in their ways, and want to see a guy busting his tail earning his check, if they see a worker using one of these they'll portray it as if that worker is taking "the easy way out" blah-blah...etc etc.. Maybe on a "side job" , infrequently, once in a blue moon, mechanical chisel/chipping is tolerable, but for repetitious routine recurring work it becomes one of the reasons why workers doing that task start looking for other jobs/work.

With the set up you had showed us? Did the dust collector and vacuum remove all the duct associated with grinding? Or was there still a reasonable amount of dust in the air? I'm literally up against the same job and just trying to ball park how much dust there will be.
@im3sixty
@im3sixty 4 ай бұрын
I would say it removed about 85% of the dust, I did cover countertops and cabinets with plastic and closed off the hallways with plastic to make sure I contain the dust. There was some dust on the plastic covers but it was a very thin layer. Good luck with your project!

Your thinset looks really flat, you could have laid 3mm underpad and 12mm laminate and I think you would have been perfectly fine. What do you think ?
@pursuitoftruth6774
@pursuitoftruth6774 Жыл бұрын
Bad idea. You'd at least want to patch over it first if you were going to do that, but it wouldnt be very even, so for click products you could run into some issues there, gluedown not so much

yeah i figured ill just explain the setup since grinding thinset is not as exciting but i guess you would want to see the level of dust if any. So on that, ill just say that I had very low to almost zero dust but you have to keep an eye on the dust separator bin, that puppy would fill up quick.

As long as you can find the correct vacuum attachment then I dont think it would be an issue, the thinset comes apart fairly easily. I guess it also depends on the size of the job and how much time you want to spend charging batteries.
