I used to work for ILEA as a teacher. It was brilliant and then the Tories decided it wasn't.

It was scrapped in 1986 along with the GLC because they didn't like the fact it was run by Labour politicians. I was in an inner London school at the time and they also scrapped the sixth form grant which was used to help working class kids stay on to do to their A levels at a time they got pressure from parents to get a job from 16 years to bring in money to hard up house-holds. The bastards!!

Fantastic performance from the great late Glen Sweeny and Co. For this session TEB is: G Sweeny (Drums, shamanistic drumming indeed), Mike Marchant (Guitar), Simon House (from High Tide, later on Hawkwind; VCS3 Synthesizer and Violin) and Peter Pavli (from High Tide, Bass)

I first became aware of aThe Third Ear Band when I went to see Roman Polanski's movie Macbeth, some time in 1973, I think it was. They were perfect for the mood of the movie, and the play it was adapted from. I was a Shakespeare fan already, and I talked a group of my friends into going to see the film with me. It was their first time being exposed to Shakespeare. Afterwards, as we left the theater, everyone was puzzled by my fascination with the play and the film. I didn't make any converts, but I've remained a Shakespeare fan ever since, and a fan of this band!

A strange and unique band the Third Ear Bands music always sounded to me like the music you,d listen to whilst reading H.P. Lovecrafts stories . Weird , otherworldly and unsettling . Progressive music in the truest sense .

They played on a cold rainy day at the Isle of Wight Festival 1969? As they opened with the 1st notes the sun came out in a burst & stayed out. Music that is strangely strange but oddly normal.
