So I was one of the commenters on Arreks' videos (both of them), not to degrade or even talk about the people in the video, but instead to argue that the visuals of Rise ARE actually quite good and to speak on Gaijin's point, about art style. You can say anything you want about how the pixels in a rock load, but I'd much rather put my effort into critiquing art style, something I felt World was lacking in. Starting with Ruri's point on wanting a MH game that's cell shaded or in the style of Guilty Gear, I disagree. Not because they're bad art styles, quite the opposite in fact. For cell shading, I agree that having that style in main series MH would intrude on Stories' uniqueness, and for Arc System Works' games, it just doesn't work for anything outside of fighting games because it's meant to emulate 2D characters in a 3D environment, whereas MH operates in an open, 3D space. ArcSys' style is also incredibly hard to emulate, it works for fighting games because the animations are limited to the backgrounds and characters, which is still quite the feat. But for a game as big as MH? It would take years upon years to have that kind of style implemented. Even beyond these issues though, I think something people fail to recognize is that Monster Hunter already HAS an art style, one of fantastical realism. Several people have great videos discussing this subject already, but MH has always landed somewhere between cartoonish and ultra-realistic, a trait shown in every part of its world. Take the Charge Blade for example, there's no way in hell that thing could possibly operate in real life, but with the context of being in Monster Hunter, the animations and designs for the Charge Blade make it seem like it almost COULD work, and that's what the art of MH seeks to emulate, that feeling of a slightly more vibrant and jovial reality. A style I think Rise has committed to entirely (though 4U still does it the best in my opinion, those cutscenes are fucking OOZING with charm). Point is, I understand the disappointment of going from World's graphical fidelity to Rise's, but I question the validity of it as a criticism and would much rather people focused on the art behind the game, there's a much more interesting conversation to be had there in my opinion.

I agree with pretty much all you say. Yes people can prefer something other the other sure, but a lot of what these people are saying doesn't make sense or isn't realistic for the platform it's on and for Engine it's being build for. It seems people are just saying things without actually proper thought behind the words they're saying.

@@NovaBushido Yeah, as others have said, it's really not worth comparing Rise's graphics to World considering the console difference. We should be comparing it to other switch games and portable MH games.

@@prawn1717 I get people saying that, me myself wouldn’t say don’t compare it to world, I think people should just recognise and understand the Switch isn’t as powerfully as the other systems and that’s pretty much it. People act as if it should match the other systems, like cmon XD

And besides the differences from a pc possible computing power for graphics to a handheld console Rise has a beautiful consistency and overall designart style that world and iceborn lack somehow. Sure world is higher in details and sharpness but some design choices are like bad trucker paintbrush art pieces like with wolves n dolphins and such crap contrary to a culturally refined design in Kamura and all its figures and items with a super tight still natural experience of a credible environment...

i would expect a volcano area with monsters like volvidon, tetsucabra, agnaktor and glavenus. And also the desert área with monsters like nibelsnarf, great Jaggi, daimyo hermitaur and diablos

Volvidon and diablos are in for sure. I think there are good odds that either daimyo hermitaur or shogun ceanataur might return because they have specified their focus on monster variety. Don't know about agnaktor and nibelsnarf though. Love them, but I'd assume they're low on the priority list. Looking forward to being surprised though.

I think the whole visuals discussion is only happening because World made the series popular. We wouldnt be having this conversation without it. Also, World can barely hit 30 fps on console

I have World on the regular PS4 and the Rise demo actually runs better on my Switch than World did on my PS4. I know they're not the same game or console, but I still find it nice that Rise runs pretty good so far

Even if it's bound to be a popular game consequent of the legacy of the franchise it belongs. It already feels underated, in my perspective, everybody is focusing, either on the WORLD graphical comparison, or in the technicalities of gameplay. No one talks about the lil secrets on the demo; the fact that there's like other several dog cliff scattered on the map, shrines with palamute lil statues, the fact the there's a weird tomb at the top of the highest mountain on the shrines, all those subtle but odd things that gives the map some sort of an identity, of a backstory. No one talks of the second intro song performed by Minoto, Wich is oh so beautiful. Gamers have the wrong focus for this game, and I CAN'T help but blame Monster Hunter:World for it. I hope everyone's eyes widens open once the full game comes out. BECAUSE YALL FUCKING BLIND.

The comparisons are fine imo.. But if the comparison boils down to: "It doesn't look as good as world" Or "The textures are too low compared to World" Like this kind of nitpicks or complaints must be ignored at all cost since it will result to pointless arguments based on a very biased outlook regarding graphics.

I love that having different Housecarls from the former games were a thing. In Generations Ultimate when I was actively playing I would switch once a week but my mains were the Loc Lac Guild Girl, Little Miss Forge and the Guildmarm because I loved that she called me Squiggle.

It's pretty wild that Monster Hunter took so long to catch on in the West. The games are so awesome and Capcom is one of the biggest developers. I'm actually kind of salty that I never got into it earlier

My first experience with monster hunter was when i played the 4u demo when i was a teen and the only reason i didn't buy it was due to money and the fact that i didn't have the new nintendo 3ds with the second stick and i didn't have the additional accessory that added the second stick. Then i played the Mhxx demo and after that my first "official" Monster Hunter was Mhw and after mhw i bought mhgu and now i'm a fan for life.

I'm with gaijin on the charm farming vs deco farming, and sure you go for tempered monster, but you just chose the tempered monster that gave the most chances for rewards in the tier you were looking for. And thats before even mentioning tempered monsters didn't feel fun, frenzied monster are fun, hyper monsters are fun, apex monsters were fun, tempered were a chore and arch tempered were stuck to elder dragons, if rise has special monsters like that, I hope the tier 2 versions are the regular monsters and not elder dragons, mostly because fighting apex zinogre, or apex tidal najaralla was way more excited than arch tempered teostra or arch tempered kirin. Also the list of apex monsters was greater since it was not limited to elders. I mean, zinogre, tidal naja, gravios, rajang, deviljho, seregios, and I forget if it was one or not, but diablos from what I can remember, and all of their body types were very different, the arch tempered elder dragons all had the same body type and all moved the same way minus kirin... at that point it was just would you rather farm this arch tempered because you find the fire and blasts easier to deal with or this one because efluvian immunity is easy to gem in.

They could easily fix the issue with decoration farming while leaving it random by making monsters have higher drop rates for decorations that give skills related to the monster. For example, Rathalos could have a higher drop rate for Weakness Exploit and Fire Attack and Uragaan could have a higher drop rate for Guard and Guard Up.

@@retronuggets4315 I would still recommend you go with what’s more comfortable and familiar. I’ve always been with the Xbox on my half and my experience with the PS4, mild as it was, was still good and I value the differences. If you had enough money in the world you had all three plus a monster rig of a PC, but it’s never a perfect world.

@@nergalrior7841 Oh don't get me wrong, I mean as my main thing I'll definitely go Xbox for sake of simplicity , gaming PC has never been appealing as to my friends who have them. Plus my interest in the quick resume is a lot for this new gen. The thing that killed me was my PS4's fan stopped working and after a replacement it is loud enough to where I can hear it with my headphones. Xbox series x is the way to go for me, plus I love the Xbox controller since I was a kid. (I own switch and am hyped for MHR)

1:53:40 they added normal brachy weapons when they added layered weapons to world with raginging brachy so if brachy is in Rise they'll probably use those models instead of the chicken legs, or I would hope so

1:53:27 "They said for any Monster they're bringing back from world, they gonna use the armor/weapon designs from World" I think you're looking at this at the wrong angle. I think this means Monsters that made their debut in World/Iceborne will have their designs taken from that game. And while Brachydios was in Iceborne, he made his debut in older games so he'll have his old weapon designs back. tl;dr Brachy didn't debut in Iceborne so no Drumsticks

@@TheDreadlagg Some of the new weapons have unique designs when they're in their final form, those are easy enough, just immediately use those final forms instead of the slap on designs. For those that don't however, making redesigns is the only option I can think of, which they may have already done considering that making a few redesigns may not be as hard as making whole new weapons for the new monsters that's going to be in Rise

I think the quote about weapons was specifically about the monsters that were new to World, because those are the original designs for those weapons. Monsters like Brachy would likely return to the old format.

When the guy on Arrekz' channel suggested monster hunter destroy itself by adapting some awful chibi cell-shaded style it was understandable because the dude that said that (it was paradise not Arrekz) clearly thinks that "realism" and "fidelity" are the only thing that matters in terms of graphics. Their conversation made me SO angry, it was clear that they were just trying to cover their bases and protect themselves from angry world fans that actually will be comparing it to World, and don't really care about the series as a whole (with the exception of Arrekz himself). This is why I prefer listening to Rurikhan and Gajin talk about Monster Hunter generally. I totally agree with Gajin here. TheGameEconomist is even worse about this stuff, he basically just mocked rise and said that World was the definitive look of Monster Hunter and that all the other games don't look like World just because they couldn't. Not surprising that he started with World and openly says he doesn't really care about the series. While I guess I understand Rurikhan saying about breaking tradition and trying a new style, I am so so SO glad they went with the traditional mainline MH style for Rise, there is *nothing* wrong with it! It looks like classic MH games but better! Just because it is not some super bright cell-shaded anime nonsense doesn't mean it has to then be compared to games with the best graphics out there, it can be semi-realistic and also stylized: and it is! Rise has such a harmonious and thorough aesthetic, it is very very well realized. Aesthetics to me are more important than graphics , and MHR has nailed the aesthetic. This game, to me, looks better than world.

It looks insanely good on Switch. If anything is to be said about the graphics, it’s that they’re incredible and easily mark Rise as the best looking video game release of all time. Half the comments in videos are people asking if it’s World DLC or saying it can’t be running on a base Switch. That doesn’t happen for games that don’t look amazing.

Fun little story. My first mh game was 3u for Wii u and my 2 friends got it on 3ds since they didn’t have wii us of their own. We were in the last 2 years of high school when these dropped so we didn’t really get much opportunity to play multiplayer but when we did and it wasn’t at my place I would detach my Wii u and take it with me to my friends’ houses to play MH for like 6 hours. Good multiplayer games really bring people together Also I’m so happy that someone else thinks the Wii U is a good console man I love that console 4U is my favourite game still (granted I haven’t played world/iceborne yet)

I bought the MH4U new 3ds edition (the silver one with the logo in blue) and it looks as beautiful as it was back then. What a nice way to start with this amazing series.

Completely agree on the trading system Gaijin mentioned. In GU I would always have like 20 glavenus plates and no bursas, so it would be nice to trade for a specific part so we don't have to fight a monster 20+ times.

Staryed with 4U. That was a slow but amazing start for me. Than Cross and after World. Currently playing Iceborne. As i grow older i appreciate it more. Thanks for this podcast.

Personally I prefer the darker duller color palette of Monster Hunter 1 or Tri, so I really like how Rise looks

I think rise is fantastic because it has both the dark/misty color palettes of tri and 1 for its maps, and the colorful village aesthetic of 4/Gen for Kamura

I had that trade system idea as well, but for charms/decos (depending on which one is RNG) I have gotten severable great talismans twice or slightly worse than my best ones, which friends didn't have Giving them those would have been a godsend for them

For the charge blade "charging" silkbind, ive had a hard time judging the distance as well. I watched the 6:47 charge blade mizu hunt gaijin was talking about and it seems like the camera is a little misleading. Theres something about where the monster is and where you think it is thats just a little off it seems. And so the charging silk bind always put me past the monster or too far away, but it looked like I was close enough. I hope that its just a demo thing and the camera gets some tweeks. For the deco system i feel you. I did over 80 tempered lava fish hunts before iceborn for the guard up jewel and like 20 greatests jagrass hunts before finally getting it. I like the idea of craftable jewls and random Petalace but I like even better the system that gaijin said. With the ability to craft decos with monster materials and have them toed to a monster with that attribute is really cool. Less skill on armor for more impactful choices would be really nice. Those choices feel better than just more damage all the time.

MH Portable became Freedom (1), Portable 2nd became Freedom 2, then Portable 2nd G became Freedom Unite. Coincidentally for me, I was fighting Bloodbath Diablos for the first time when you mentioned it, and managed to defeat it right after video ended!

Another thing hardly talked about is Load times. It's often a balance or a tech to make sure you balance texture amounts with load times. Given how long it took for a level to load on the higher end prior gen consoles like PS4 Pro which could take a while without SSD, then in this game you see that from the point you press the button to start a mission to the point you are already in there playing is about 12 seconds. 15 seconds if you count the animation that plays, in the demo, before the hunt starts. That pretty much is on par, or even nearly beating all the prior generations of Monster Hunter load times. I think, at the moment (which could change), the prior best load time, of the older MH games was Generations Ultimate on Switch, at 12 seconds from the exact time you press the button. But that is also from a straight mission where there is no animation played before the loading immediately starts. So all in all, pretty much in line with Generations Ultimate in Load speed but without the segmented map loads. Draw distance is pretty much insane for players and monsters, and is still rather ridiculous for smaller things like Endemic life and bigger bugs. You can still see them moving about from far away. While I'm sure world was on systems that could push that far (my PC for one), they were very particular with all their World and Iceborne maps, to never allow unobstructed view of distances that far. As for First Gen Monster Hunter, there was a great reason it didn't do well in the West. The PS2 was a machine that was sold without online play. You actually had to buy a fairly expensive piece of additional hardware to actually bring the PS2 online, at the time. When Monster Hunter was first brought to the west, reviewers often said it really needs online to be worth it. Maybe a bit much of an ask for the West to invest in a new unfamiliar style game. The rest, up until Tri, was released on PSP with Adhoc play only. Not a setup too friendly to grow in the West. However, it was an easier ask as more MH forums popped up and a niche community grew especially in 2nd Gen. I was a part of that Generation. The first western-released Console Monster Hunter (with an actual online lobby), released on a system with built-in online play capability, was Monster Hunter Tri for the Wii. The odd part was that Monster Hunter Tri was the first time Capcom really pushed commercials for the thing in the West. Capcom's marketing push really started with Tri. Remember IronBeard? I even did a remix on those commercials. A little surprised it didn't sell too well until 3 Ultimate for the Wii U.

on the topic of RNG, i agree, it was horrible in World, and i really hope they fix that in Rise. In World and after 1300 hours i was still lacking major decorations like Magazine, Release and Challenger jewels. And dont get me started on Kulve Taroth weapons. Incidentally, natural sounds and ambients sounds ALIVE; running on wood, the cave shortcut, the river flow. Like, I get that when you hunting (and the orchestrated scored are OH SO FUCKING GOOD) you don't get to hear your surroundings, and the focus of the game is to hunt monster. But man they do deserve an award considering how natural it sounds walking around on the shrine ruins

@@rubberduckian2538 it would be unfair to blindly say that rise has the best sound design, for example, when world due to being on stronger hardware was bubbling with forna and flora and has an even stronger sound design. Perhaps for a switch game rise easily trumps that of gu (but let's be honest, gu is a 3ds port of mhxx which in itself was old school mh so you couldn't even compare the forna and flora to rise cause it doesnt have any)

About the whole deco shenanigans. Both have flaws and positive sides, what if we combine them? Lets say charms are random and deco,s are crafted. Say you need a affinity/attack charm to complete your set, go hunt a odogaron because he has a higher Chance of dropping affinity charms but he will not drop attack,sluger etc. But the thing is you cant get a affinity/attack combo charm directly from him. You need to augment it further by using maybe diablos stuff because he is a very attack powered monsters. But you could also do it by augmenting a diablos attack charm with odo parts. BOOM immediately the random charms convey the personalities of the monster and it isnt 100% rng anymore. And deco could just be crafted. Would love a system like this, fixes most problems the both systems have. Would appreciate some feedback.

the problem with the statement where Gaijin says that if a returning monster from world comes back in Rise it will use the weapon design used in World is that Brachydios (might have spelled his name wrong) is an old monster not a monster that was introduced in Monster Hunter World so that tells me that they would go back to the old weapon style for Brachy instead of the lazy weapon designs they gave most of his weapons in World

Doubtful brach is coming back but the fact that raging brachy filled the gap of the lack of normal brachy weapons would (most likely) disprove them reusing "drumsticks" if he came to Rise. Pretty decent chance he'll come back in the G rank update though, I'd think.

From the yokai theme maybe there could be 40-60 monster on MHRise and more on the Grank version where it add ups to 100.if the rampage is a quest where we fight 4-5 monster it would be really cool if there’s a rampage consist of 20 quest againts the 100 monster and after completing the quest we could get like “the conqueror of 100 demon night parade” title or achievement.well that will be my guess for how many monster will be in rise.

MHGU kinsect be controled-automaticaly attack by using brave style. while in brave mode every time user use smash attack(A) or jump attack, kinsect will simultaneously jump off and start charging and can be call back just use wide swing or roll back attack. and the last smash attack will make kinsect do drill attack. the thing is you can mark some spot and let kinsect automaticaly attack that mark is some what do able but of course with you controlling every time the user attack. this combo can be combine with hunter art no.4( forgot the name) that will strike agresively when the drill move connect to the monster part its best to use adept style but less likely to be done cuse drill strike can be done after successfull dodge and attack using X button.

A trading system for both multiplayer and solo hunters would be great. My iteration would be a share box at the end of a hunt that hunters can put certain materials in. Also I completely agree on the RNG aspect for Decos ruined the end game of world for me because almost all endgame builds required very rare decorations.

i think they mean if the monster is originally from world (not iceborne probably) and not an older game theyd use the iron and bone with bits. they did show a kulu bow and it did have the basic iron with bits look. brachydios however is from MH3 and therefor should retain his regular weapon designs

But I am hoping for like a unique ability for it given it being a flagship. We will see. Ill be fine with whatever his armor and weapsons do. Just throwing a concept out there
