I still remember my first day at UT 15 years ago. I still remember Dr. Laude teaching my CH 302 class in the Spring. What was the thing that I remember the most? His ability to walk away from the chalkboard, flip the chalk over his shoulder and having it land in the chalk tray. That was worth going to class every day.

As a professor on the Forty Acres for close to thirty years, I think this is excellent advice given in a very clear way. I have seen lots of students suffer the consequences of not having advice like this or not taking it to heart. I particularly liked the emphasis on the importance and advantages, academically, of getting to know fellow students. It also makes the process of learning much more fun when it is shared with others. This should have more than 283 views.

What a terrific, funny, and insightful video. As a parent of a UT graduate student (and who has another student at a Big Ten university), this is great advice for every student. I remember my first day of orientation when I heard Dr. Laude welcome us into the College of Natural Sciences. All the great things he has to say, which are just so simple but need to be told to us so that we are prepared for what we are going to face in college. Awesome advice and definitely something to keep in mind!

Great speech by an undoubtedly great professor. Something that hit home for me in particular was tip number 7: "Boring is in the Eye of the Beholder". There have been countless moments in which I have felt that certain subject material is totally boring simply due to my fear of committing to something at which I may end up failing.

Gonna go on to my sophomore year at UT and I really needed to hear that "rule #13." Much thanks, Dr. Laude.

I hope my son gets to go to Ut Austin in 2016 and that he gets to meet you because the way you talk about you're self when you were young its like you're describing my son . i found this video to be very good. i am freshman and i am really strugling, everytime i say i would study i always have to do something else that takes me away from it. i shall follow the instructions and hopefully by the grace of God i will succeed
