@@HarryMollyNut ~ You may or may not be surprised, but I couldn't agree with you more. I make the remarks that I do, regarding these old cars because I have been a gear-head just about my entire life. I love physics, etc., so different ways of mechanical motivation have always been interesting to me. I don't have two nickels to rub together myself, so its not like I'm one of those rich pigs. I just like their toys.

@@HarryMollyNut : Mr.Marx & Co tried to eliminate that mistake in the human condition with the help of a system called communism. As a result, you have a Chinese totalitarian system with a rich "nomen clatura" and less rich millions of tightly controlled poor folks. The North Korean system is even worse. Does this help the sub-Saharan Africans? Humanity seems to be unable to eliminate that problem of birthrights. So we invented that beautiful fairytale called "from rags to riches." And in many cases you forget about the rags and start off with the riches!!!

The mosaic of sound this beast exudes..... A fabulously wonderful v8, with eyes closed is very much the low flying airctaft, the whine of the gears and chain, the distinct tyre sound. To experience this in its presence or even drive it would be indescribable. My 83 year old mate has just finished a model A rodaster with a mid 1930s 6 cylinder aircraft engine which is a vehicle of beauty, the v8 Hispano would be so much more..

I'm also 20, just bought my first car, a Triumph Herald, so starting out in the world of classic cars. And it's something I'm learning from and learning about. And most importantly, I'm learning from and asking people like Tom Walker (the chap in this video) for help and advice. There are still young vintage and classic enthusiasts.

The SPAD used the more powerful American Liberty engine. The SPAD XIII was the fastest fighter of WW1 with a top level flight speed of 138 MPH and a terminal dive speed of 233 MPH (due to the innovative all metal airframe). Liberty engines were therefore a popular choice for record breaking planes, cars and boats in the 1920's.
