@@VultureCulture Ok, I can confirm. All patches are very well programmed. I really appreciate the work because the D-50 and DX-7 are very complicated to program. Have you used the PG-1000? Regarding the quality of the D.50: Jarre created "Revolution" using almost exclusively the D50/D-550. What else:)

@m4xgh thank you 🙏 and yes, I used the pg-1000. I have a full 3-hour tutorial on how to program the D-50 because you're right, it is complicated, but not as bad as a DX7. And the last patch is a tribute to Jarre's Revolution 🔧

Long live to Jean-Michel Jarre! That is the Artist that turned me into synthesizers. D-50 remains to be unique sounding synthesizer. Limitations in technology at that time and creative way Roland chose to “overcome” them - that is what made it unique. Thank you for great sounds & programming, Vulture Culture!

Beautiful use of "Falling" from Twin Peaks while demonstrating Patch 75: Population 51,201 around the 6 minute mark! Wonderful patches! I've loved this instrument since the first time I played it in a local shop in the '80s. My band got 2 D-550s back then. After I splintered off, I finally got my own D-50 in the '90s, but then sold it about 15 years later. I realized that nothing could replace it for me. So I picked up another D-550 only two years later and I treasure it to this day.
@VultureCulture
@VultureCulture 11 ай бұрын
I'm sure you got this, but for anyone who didn't population 51,201 is written underneath the words "Twin Peaks" on the famous sign from the intro. I'm so glad you liked the patches! And I'm glad you've got a D-550. Any major differences with the rack version?
@tedstahl3794
@tedstahl3794 11 ай бұрын
@@VultureCulture Indeed! No major differences in the sound. Two big things in the interface: 1) There's no joystick on the rack mount. 2) The LCD on the D-550 is Inverted. It has a pale blue background with dark text, whereas the D-50 has a dark background with glowing green text. I prefer the D-50 screen. However, I appreciate the smaller footprint. Yet, if you've never seen a D-550, they are DEEP! It's about the same depth as my old S900 (just a shade over 16")!

@@spacemanonearth Wow, the JV-1080/XP-50 has wonderfull sound engine. The D-50 was artificial and sharp as blade, the JV-1080 is very natural, soft and smooth. This synth has army of fans, maybe even bigger than D-50. A good half of 90s pop, ambient, house and endless hours of computer game music for Sony Playstation and Sega Saturn were written with JV-1080. Every studio had at least one JV-1080/2080. Still a classic synth.

Everything at its apointed time. These synths were capable of producing sounds beyond their time. Folks just weren't ready for them. I still use them all now as VSTi versions and the extra patches/presets are amazing, and easier to program than the phisical instrument. And with a little bit of knowledge on the programming side, you can get close to whatever sound you want. Basically same architecture as all those new software synths you've been messing with. Whether it’s subtractive, additive, wavetable or FM synthesis and so on and so forth, you can achieve many, many new presets that have been waiting to be discovered. Awesome synth. Enjoy.
