35mm is the most versatile focal length - definitely to take on an island 😀 I use 35mm on DSLM and 24mm as standard/default lens on smartphones.

I am not a photographer but only an amateur. I used to have in my bag 3 dark zoom lenses covering several focal lenghts from 16 to 300mm ... but in the last year i have changed my mind, sold those 3 lenses and bought the sigma 35mm 1.4 which is now my only lens ... i found that "documentary type" pictures are my favourite: my eyes don't see as a 300mm or as a 16mm ... but sees very close to what a 35mm lens can capture. Plus i have the ability to travel light, to use the camera in any light conditions ... and to forget forever the dust on sensor collected during lens changes

Yeah, exactly, 35mm focal lenght is as closest to what we see with our eyes, so this lens feels more natural to use

I can TOTALLY relate to your feeling about the 50mm, I have the 50mm 1.2GM and it's always been my go to but indeed! I am curious for the 35mm 1.4 too 😍

Give it a try! Although it is interesting, how it would compete with that 50mm f1.2 🤭

As someone that does not work with assistants at weddings I feel more comfortable with zooms. I just hate switching lens at times. Sometimes when I'm shooting the bridal party getting ready I can change lens but the rest of the day its hard. Sometimes I need 24mm and other times I need 80mm. I shoot with my Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 and Panasonic 35-100mm f2.8.

Well I dont often work with assistants, only on extra long days or when there is lots of driving. But before I also used to think that changing lenses during wedding day is lame and zoom lens is better, well I still think that as I am lazy to constantly changing lenses. The solution is to have two camera bodies, then you easilly can carry two fixed lens that will get you covered. Also second camera body is good to have in terms of a back up camera if something happens to the main one. So you already have two cameras and can try to shoot with one wide fix and tele fix lenses, the wider aperture is worth it in my opinion. Unless you are into those ultra wide shots then you will need those 12mm on your wide zoom

@@ShotsByJev I bring three cameras with me. So I have a back up to my backup. And I have back up lens also and bring three flashes with me. I lug around two backpacks. Sometimes I have one backpack but I can only bring two cameras with me. On those days I'm using Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 and 75mm f1.8. I've only had couples once in a blue moon ask for ultra wide photos. I do have one in my bad the Olympus 7-14mm f2.8

@@MrWiseinheart Not when you shoot two cameras and one breaks you'll be glad you had a third. I know of two photographers that had two cameras break on them. It's very rare but it does happen.

I highly doubt you can tell the difference in bokeh between the Sony 35 1.4 and the Fujifilm 23 1.4. I think you will definitely notice the difference in not needing to edit pictures from the Fujifilm. It's my opinion that subject separation and bokeh are pretty far down the list of creative inspiration and actually feeling inspired by the colors in your photographs is practically more important
@ShotsByJev

I think because of sensor size difference the difference will be, and for ones the depth of field isnt important, but I like how images with open aperture looks. anyway it is not the time for me to change current kit to completely new one, also the downside to Fujifilm in low light apsc sensor is still a bit worse than full frame, I compared my X-T30ii to 5D mark iii and the Canon is still a but better in low light, and low light photography is a part of wedding day

Yeah, it is really nice lens, before I was more in for zoom lenses, but now I get it why you should use prime ones
@bigrobotnewstoday1436

Just letting you know if you use DXO PhotoLab or DXO PureRaw with Deep PRIME you get two extra stops of high ISO and DXO restores loss color due to high ISO. So if your Sigma broke at a wedding you can still shoot the same with your Tamron. With DXO I export to DNG raw so I can still edit in another editor if I want.

Nice to know, but it sounds like extra work for lots of images from a wedding, so in this case if I dont have option to shoot with 35mm I will use a speedlight alongside my zoom lens

Thank you for kind words! I always shoot in manual mode, because over the years I kind of developed a feeling of the settings would be suitable for each enviroment as if I would shoot in lets say aperture priority mode I would have to learn to understand how camera adjust the exposure to be able to correct it faster on the fly. But yes, this lens is amazing!

Depending on situation I try to keep my shutter speed optimal so people that are moving would be sharp in the images and according to that I will adjust aperture and ISO depending on lighting conditions, so I guess shutter speed goes first and then the rest

After reading all comment on lots of videos I am little confuse so.... Please tell me which one should I buy? Samyang 35mm f/1.4 D OR OR Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN video is my priority while choosing a lens auto focus and focus breathing is my first priority. I can afford sigma 35mm 1.4 dndn as well as samyang 35mm 1.4 II but can not afford sony gm 35mm my priority is samyang because in india samyang is little bit cheaper so i spend rest amount for other accessory but Some people are saying that because of this lens (Samyang 35 1.4 II) the camera sometimes crashes. please reply me as soon as possible I want to buy very soon so u please reply🙏🙏🙏

Hey! The thing is that I use my Sigma 35mm for wedding photography, so I dont have experience filming with it other that videos for this channel which isnt any problem or a big demand for this lens. For photography I prefer Sigma over Samyang as it feels more reliable, but the best thing for you would be just to try them both and then decide wich will suit your needs better 😊

Hi. I have a 24-70 & 16-35 f-2.8 lenses. I already have lenses which can shoot at 35mm. I want to know if the 35mm art lens feel is any different from my existing lenses. Of course, the 1.4 & 2.5 apertures will have a different feel. But then should I invest in a dedicated 35mm lens.
@ShotsByJev

Hey! I was in exact position before as you and shot almost entire weddings with zoom 28-75mm lens, but when I tried 35mm I saw the difference in the ability to open aperture and better separate objects from the background. Also when shooting with zoom lens you dont have constant focal lenght always zooming in or out which doesnt look cohesive comparing to one fixed focal lenght. If you dont know wether you would see the difference try to shoot with 50mm lens with wider aperture if you have that lens (that what I did prior to 35mm lens, started to shoot more and more with 50mm lens and wide aperture) or just rent 35mm lens for a day, because unless you try it is hard to say wether you would see difference, for me it was big enough that I went the next day and bought my own 35mm lens
