Agreed. I drove the Project 8 on the track at Palm Beach INternational recently, and it was an awesome fast car. However, $187K !!! There is no reason at all that Jaguar could not put the 5.0l s/c engine from the F type in the XE and sell it to compete with M4, M5. CTS etc. At around $100K. Well I guess that there is a reason, Management with no enthusiasm and balls. I think that they are scared of getting shamed by Greta.

@@rdvideoclips the project 8 is only very loosely based on the XE. It costs so much because we had to recoup the development costs by only selling a couple hundred cars.

@@TheJPHarvey Yes, it is fine tuned to do a 7.21 at Nurburgring, and is an excellent track car. So much grip I was able to power out of the corners and not worry. I also underestimated the grip entering corners, and forced understeer where I could have trusted the car LOL. But I still would have thought that it wouldn't be impossible to economically offer the F type power train in the XE. It wouldn't be a Project 8 but would give the AMG C63S, M4, M3, M5, Audi RS and CTSVs a run for their money, and benefit from the Jaguar heritage, which they are squandering away. And I bet that Jaguar would sell more than 300. With the maximum engine size in the XE being a 4 cylinder I think that Jaguar have lost their way and are not fully developing their brand. I am looking for a replacement for my F type V8S convertible, but there is nothing out there to come close. A new F type R, maybe.. But I would really like a little more room as it is a very snug cabin for two. Hence I am forced to look at BMW, AMG, Audi, Hellcat, ZL1, Shelby GT500. Where is the XE SVR??? Their brand should be on excitement machines, like BMWs Ultimate Driving Machine. I have looked at the XE, XF, E Pace F pace etc etc in the showrooms and they leave me cold. If Jaguar are trying to complete at a higher price with the Kias and Hyundais, Genesis, etc....they have lost already..dead man walking. They need more Halo cars imho. And as far as electric...great. I love the technology. But it's crowded field. There are still lots of ICE drivers, at least here in the US. Maybe Jaguar Management have been attending too many "How Dare You " Greta speeches?

I was looking for an AWD sport sedan (I live a northern country) option to replace my 997 and was waiting for Jaguar to offer an XE with the engine from the F type with their AWD system. The competitors are all rwd and the RS4 steering left me unimpressed. It baffles me that they did not choose to go for a production car that offers the convenience of AWD and the driving feel so distinctive of Jaguar. I love the facelift version of the XE and it is such a shame that it is only offered with such engines. I understand the cost savings of focusing on fewer engines and the new regulatory limitations but at least on version should use the stronger engine from the F type with the knowledge learn from the Project 8.

Hate to burst the balloon but its just an ftype with a raucous engine...its a great sound and that but ......but at 140k? no way.. gt2’s Rs’s gt3’s and those other Porsche’s are simply a different league in engineering and will retain their value much more than this. At this price point the real BRITISH ENGINEERED option is a mclaren. You could even get a secondhand 5 year-old 12c or 650 (flawed cars yes) but silly fast and their space age tech would trounce this obsolete nonsense of a car for way less money. In the time the ftype has been out the 991 and 992 generations of the iconic 911 have gone to market and virtually all their GT derivatives make more sense and so I would rather give my money to the germans. If mclaren wasn’t so ham fisted with their new product management, terrible dealer network and support for their older cars then i would consider a mclaren its more british i think than jaguar land-rover.

poosnip you are wrong this will be a collectors item.....this isn’t a Jag it’s a Lister which has its own racing heritage. So to say a GT3 will retain its price better, when 1000’s are made every couple of years. I will definitely in my lifetime see 100’s of GT3’s but I might never see this Lister. In 10 years time this will be at quarter of a million mark.

Weston Charm Pointless, the new Vantage has got the engine out the AMG GTC, isint as quick an costs 10k more.

It's really not that low. You just have to learn where you can go up and where not. I've had many lower cars than this without any problems. Also anyone who buys this surely has plenty other more usable cars.
