There’s only 2 scenarios that being with a woman makes sense: Either the man pays for everything in exchange for someone who is essentially a maid, chef, bed-warmer, or they act as equals and both pay their shared costs, making both of their lives easier and less stressful. Many women don’t seem to agree to either. That’s the problem.

Oshay is on point! Bride price is a SCAM. You can't pay top dollar for a high mileage used car, when you can lease the latest rides without costly long-term contracts, maintenance headaches, and crazy value depreciation. You just want to ride and get back to living your life.

@@lacy4035 Yam and palm wine... Wow, that was so 1812. Its cash these days. And bride price plus the attendant ceremonies cost more than a car. Thats buying. If a man is expected to show he can take care of a woman, why not buy land/build a house etc. for his new family with the money? And why should men with property/wealth/career etc., have to pay to prove anything? Funny how this "Proving Requirement" benefits other people immensely and not the man and his new family, who after paying the bride price, must foot all bills from then on. Ridiculous and backward aka SCAM.

The purpose or “value” in a bride price comes into play when me and my wife raise a young women to 1. Be a virgin 2. Teach her life skills like home managment, money managment. 3. How to cook. Proper nutrition 4. How to rear children how to teach them. Show them how to become assets to a community. 5. How to respect a man. To know when to interject and know when to keep silent. I can go on and on. But once that os accomplished. Any man in his right mind would pay any price to get the opportunity to wed my daughter.

Before marriage, skydiving and drag racing motorcycles in the streets was routine, not being a drug user or a drinker didn't stop me from blowing money on life threatening craziness to get an adrenaline fix. You don't become platonic friends with someone you want sex and/or a relationship with. It's counterintuitive. Be honest about what you want from the start and just work towards that. If you want a relationship, you court. If you want sex or just fun, you date. If you want a platonic friend, you do neither and leave it at JUST friends. Besides, that mindset is how a lot of guys get stuck in the friend zone. When you try to be friends first, you leave the door open for someone else to slide into the position you want to feel, because people bend the rules for the people they desire.

There's a reason marriage is scary for men and it isn't about being afraid of women. Look at the stats for divorce for women in comparison to men in the US for example, and look at who usually takes the greater half of the money. I believe men have a couple responsibilities to own up to as men socially, a couple torches that need to be rekindled and carried without complaint, if you will. Men need to man up, but they do have a valid reason to not want to just nose dive into marriage, and that should be acknowledged by women and not emotionally but impartially, and logically reasoned about - Because marriage dwindling is a threat to your human rights, you can't see it past your nose now but that's literally part of a plan to destabilize nations. Africa is the biggest producer of children in the world bro. Please stop with the dilly dallying and figure out a solution with your Woman (or if you're a Woman, with your Man). Time is of the essence. It isn't about defending your gender, it's about not being conquered by the adversary. There has to be a mutual agreement to overcome this sort of mentality or things will get worse - If Africa becomes like the West there isn't going to be anywhere else for you to run to. Black Man and Woman everywhere, its time to grow up. Don't choose a partner out of ego, truly get to know someone out of genuine interest. Edit: This is under presumption the man is in good faith, I don't speak for abusers

In many societies the world over, the idea that a woman can afford to stay home and look after the children was only true for the wealthy. Even in the west, especially now, the cost of living is so high that most parents have to work. It's been like these for thousands of years. Women may not have done the same job or work as men, but for the underclasses (the non-wealthy), all able bodies had to work (including children, who often worked along side their parents or mothers when they were very young).

What Khuhani said is what most modern women say when it comes to "she's been supportive so she should get half". Reality is that most women that get half aren't there from the beginning, they just find the guy AFTER he became well-established and try to take half of his stuff. That should NEVER be allowed, because it's gonna open the door to the other one. Don't get me wrong, she should get a reasonable amount that they can both negotiate and get to terms with, but never half.

Oshay is dropping bars. I am not bashing women, but what is the benefit of getting married if I've already done all of the work. You ever heard of a move-in ready apartment/ just bring your suitcase? That is the person that I aspire to be. Cooking and cleaning has it's value and it should be appreciated, like all acts of service to your significant other, but does that equate to half of what's in place before you arrive? I enjoy doing those things, so my spouse will not be carrying those responsibilities on her own. What's the benefit of marriage? Especially if it's with a modern woman who wants to be my competition and refuses to listen, not to me, but to what's logical because it's coming from me.

There are many research studies showing the negative side effects of cohabitation...children suffer the most. Westerners already see it. Africans will see it when it becomes prominent. Africans have bride price, india has dowry, and muslims have Mehr...its a setting expectations the lady is getting assurance. The success rate depends on standards of the country. Marriage is responsibility and investment of future. If Cohabitation get same protections as marriage than the marriage lose value. Currently only marriage comes with protections and family support that cohabiting does not provide.

Bride price is not buying. It is compensating parents for raising the child well and is used to build relationships with in laws and combine the family. Bride Price should b3 set lower nowadays. When Zulus had lots of cows it was 10 cows. Now, it should be 2 cows as one cow is $1,000 - that is a lot of money. And, maybe, one should be a calf = $500 - $800. It is NB but we dont buy women.

Indians for example, quite often don't come here rich, they build their wealth, exponentially faster by not practicing cultural and traditional practices that stunt and eliminate that wealth. Poverty is practiced like a religion in Africa because of the culture. Keeping quiet about it and defending it will only make it last longer. I see Indians come here, have fun with African women, even impregnate and abandoned them, but they certainly don't marry them and set themselves back to zero financially, that would be stupid.

Men are tired of getting their assets stolen and women do not add any good points to get married unless it benefits them and wants the government to step in and force you to marry them. Now a concept is taking root to leave these countries with bad laws & prospects and go to more accommodating countries. With that move brings money and infrastructure so women need to get on the program or get left behind to suffer.

Jonita's last statement, "love is not going to do shit for you." Ok, so what's the point in marriage? Is it purely transactional without love? I would think two people who enter into a marriage would have some feeling of love toward one another. So, I think that statement was purely from an emotional place. Maybe Jonita doesn't believe in love? Just a rhetorical question. I've never been married. I've been the best man or groomsman at many wedding, but never married. For me, marriage is a serious investment. Two people must be in love with one another and build a covenant to traverse a path of unity and commitment. Each person should bring value to the marriage, and not looking for anything superficial. For instance, if a woman is looking to be married only for the material reward, the marriage will dry and break. If the man is in the marriage, because he has a showpiece, the marriage will dry and break. It has to go beyond looks and wealth, and "what he/she can do for me." You both really have to see genuine value in one another. I've never taken time to appreciate the relationships I've been in, and some of them , I knew early, will not last long. Also, I've never lived with a woman, and I never had any of my girlfriends live with me. I am seriously considering marriage now, but the environment in which we live has made me skeptical. Most women watch toxic Instagram and youtube videos and want to replicate what they see. They watch all the superficial and damaging drama on reality television and think their life will emulate what they view. Many perceptions of relationships have been damaged by social media, because what we see on these platforms are purely for entertainment and are not what we want to build off of in our relationships. I find women to be looking for a "payoff" when I engage them. I literally had a sistah tell me her tastes are very high. Ok, that seems nice, but if I can't meet her tastes, then I guess that is a major disqualifier. Never mind qualities which will make me a desirable choice. As for the men, many are looking for dime pieces and show pieces, sistahs to show off in public. In both cases, I am not generalizing, but among the male and female groups, there are many who are looking for all the wrong reasons. Bottom line is that, if love don't mean shit (according to Jonita), then don't waste anyone's time. Love should be a major factor in finding a soulmate. Personanlly, I want a woman to fall madly in love with me. If she can't do that, I don't want her. I can easily fall madly in love with a woman, but the qualities I look for are simple. Personality, loves to joke and laugh, enjoys new experiences, respectful, generous, beautiful inside and out, great in conversation, share innovative thoughts, selfless, Pan-African in mindset, natural, and just an amazing person to be with. Honestly, these things alone will blow my mind. I haven't even mentioned anything physical. Too many people play games and are just looking for "what I can get out of this person." If that is the objective, it will not last. Great conversation...

In some Indian cultures where they have arranged marriages, they pretty much marry for the benefits of what they can do for one another. 1 woman said if love comes from that it's a plus but it doesn't always happen and has nothing to do with their reasoning for marrying. And their pretty successful with it so I guess it just depends.

@@feefee2 Love your comment, and it is true. I've met and have Indian friends who seem to just be in it for family and the "economic" benefit. I believe Caucasians are the same. However, African culture is very different. Marriage has to come from a place of love and mutual respect. The courtship identifies what works and what does not work.. This is a period of discovery. We are just designed differently, but Western influence has infiltrated our culture and you are now seeing Africans behaving as Westerners/Europeans. For the record, there are arranged marriages in Africa, but that happens in more remote villages where traditional practices still occur. However, our connection is more spiritual than elsewhere. I love our culture, because there is genuine respect between man and wife, and the institution of family. Blessings.

Marriage is a construct of society, not nature. Society has moved beyond marriage thanks to technology. You don't need children to grow your land, you don't need land for survival. You don't need to be a wife to gain inheritance, that is what wills are for. Marriage is archaic in the same way celibacy for priests is archaic. The minute women decided their role to men wasn't the be their subordinate, was the same moment men were free from the yoke of marriage. You can't say you want a man to be responsible for you and then at the same moment say you are for yourself. This is what societal evolution looks like.
